To think you just don't do this to a child

My daughter's whole class go swimming every Friday. They get the bus to the swimming pool which is about 15 minutes away.
On Friday they were finishing up their swimming (it's the last thing of the day) and the teacher then said that everyone had to stay in the pool except my daughter. Turns out one of the girls was having her birthday party at the pool straight after. My daughter then had to get in the bus with the teacher and they came back to the school. I was there for the bus getting back and asked why my daughter was the only one on the bus and that's when the teacher told me. I understand not everyone is invited to everyone's party but would there not have been a better way of doing this? My daughter and I am very upset and I want to know if you think I'm being unreasonable. All opinions will be considered. Thank you
Oh and my daughter is 6 for context

So the party children took all their school bags, back packs packed lunch boxes, water bottles, reading books, presents for the birthday child , plus their swimming stuff on the bus to swimming.

Riiiight.

Newtonianmechanics · 30/10/2023 15:35

I don't think it would be legal in the UK.

ohme · 30/10/2023 15:35

Utterly unbelievable that a school would release children to a swimming pool at the end of the day. Like seriously?

HeartofAss · 30/10/2023 15:34

Why does the mum automatically get all the blame? Why not 'What a dick of a Dad for allowing this to happen"?

Who cares? Let’s face facts, majority of parties are arranged by mums. This story sounds like a load of crap anyway.

So the parents of the birthday pupil said to the teacher ‘hey, we are having a pool party after Fridays lesson with the whole class except X, so you’ll only need to take her back to school after?’ That’s bizarre!

Indeed..

LakeTiticaca · 30/10/2023 15:36

Weirdest thing I have ever heard. Did the parents turn up en masse at the end of the lesson for the party?
Was the head teacher aware that this was happening?
What a shitty thing to do and I would be speaking to the LEA about it

Indeed, just quite odd all around.

Sunshineclouds11 · 30/10/2023 15:37

Surely not

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/10/2023 15:37

I'm also unfamiliar with six year olds going from school as a class to swimming...

fruitstick · 30/10/2023 15:38

Is this to flesh out some plot device in a novel?

It wouldn't happen.

Venues have set times for parties. There would be a period between end of school lessons and start of supervised party. They would not be allowed to just 'hang out' in the pool.

ManateeFair · 30/10/2023 15:39

So the (one?!) teacher just got on the bus with your daughter and left the other 29 six-year-olds in the pool unsupervised until some other adults turned up to run the party? Really?

Almostateeagersmum2023 · 30/10/2023 15:39

Swimming doesn’t happen until juniors here.

Without school staff who are responsible for them...

Runningonjammiedodgers · 30/10/2023 15:41

Yeah. Sure. Marking my place so I know when the threads been taking down.

SailorStow · 30/10/2023 15:42

Well this sounds like a whole lot of crap frankly ….

JanglingJack · 30/10/2023 15:43

It didn't happen. A teacher is not going to leave the kids in the pool and hand over to parent or parents. They would have to be out, dressed, accounted for and back to school for the end of the school day and be released to a parent or carer that has been agreed upon.

Oh well.

Sunnydays0101 · 30/10/2023 15:43

How could this have happened? The school could not have left children at the pool if it still was within school time. And I doubt a pool party would follow immediately after a swimming lesson - at that stage, the children would be getting cold and want out.

Where are you? It couldn't / wouldn't happen in the uk.

Oh yes, I forgot the teacher bogged off as well 🤣

CoffeeCantata · 30/10/2023 15:45

Awful, OP. Similar happened to my lovely little girl, so I really do understand.

Grit your teeth, try to distract/console her and keep boosting her self esteem.

almondseagull · 30/10/2023 15:46

TeaKitten · 30/10/2023 15:29

I can’t see how this would be allowed to happen.

Yes surely the school should have taken the children back to the school at the end of the day?

JanglingJack · 30/10/2023 15:46
  • chucks floats in pool with a cheery wave
Topofthemountain · 30/10/2023 15:46

If this is true, the party situation should be the least of your worries. As others have said there is many things wrong with this set up.
