To think you just don't do this to a child

My daughter's whole class go swimming every Friday. They get the bus to the swimming pool which is about 15 minutes away.
On Friday they were finishing up their swimming (it's the last thing of the day) and the teacher then said that everyone had to stay in the pool except my daughter. Turns out one of the girls was having her birthday party at the pool straight after. My daughter then had to get in the bus with the teacher and they came back to the school. I was there for the bus getting back and asked why my daughter was the only one on the bus and that's when the teacher told me. I understand not everyone is invited to everyone's party but would there not have been a better way of doing this? My daughter and I am very upset and I want to know if you think I'm being unreasonable. All opinions will be considered. Thank you
Oh and my daughter is 6 for context

Hi all

We took this thread down to check some things behind the scenes. We've done this and are now reinstating the thread. Flowers

Newtonianmechanics · 30/10/2023 17:45

Did this happen ib the uk op?

Orchidgarden · 30/10/2023 17:48

viques · 30/10/2023 15:35

So the party children took all their school bags, back packs packed lunch boxes, water bottles, reading books, presents for the birthday child , plus their swimming stuff on the bus to swimming.

Riiiight.

This.

Mn have said they checked the thread, if you don't believe it just ignore it and don't post.
Op, this is beyond horrible and I can't believe the school would facilitate it. I would seriously look at moving my child to another school or another class.

Pooooochi · 30/10/2023 17:53

No way did this actually happen. No school would do this. They are not stupid, they know full well its cruel.

Homesweethome23 · 30/10/2023 17:54

i have worked in many schools and not one would have allowed this.

Well the thread has been reinstated so I think it’s best not to derail the thread with doubt.

Yourebeingtooloud · 30/10/2023 17:57

If this actually happened then I would be finding a new school for my dc asap. So many bad practices in place here.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 30/10/2023 17:58

*I'm also unfamiliar with six year olds going from school as a class to swimming...

Swimming doesn’t happen until juniors here.*

DS went swimming with his class from school from year one onwards so would have been six.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean this story adds up, just that some schools do swim in KS1.

Mumsgirls · 30/10/2023 18:00

So allowing for the usual transport time, party would have actually started in school time? Does not sound right

Due to safe guarding, this would not happen in the UK.

whatapalavaaa · 30/10/2023 18:03

There's no way the school would agree to this. I work in education and it just didn't happen

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 30/10/2023 18:03

Rubbish.

Sunnydays0101 · 30/10/2023 15:43

How could this have happened? The school could not have left children at the pool if it still was within school time. And I doubt a pool party would follow immediately after a swimming lesson - at that stage, the children would be getting cold and want out.

My thoughts too. As the journey back to school would have had to be in school time, to fit in with pick up, this means the party was during school time????

CrystalDay · 30/10/2023 18:04

Another vote for didn't happen

I think it's wrong of the school getting involved in parties like this.

Also a safeguarding issue with a student and just one staff member.

No it's not. Have you had any safeguarding training at all? Because if you have, I'd be complaining to the provider if that's what you were taught.

Besides, I'd imagine there was a bus driver, so not alone with the teacher, even though being alone with a teacher is not a safeguarding issue in itself 🙄

elliejjtiny · 30/10/2023 18:07

This would never happen at my dc school. They are understandably very strict about children being picked up from the classroom door only, never direct from the school hall after the nativity play or from the church after the harvest festival. We have to let them all walk back to school with the teacher and pick them up from the classroom door. Only exception was when my ds1 was playing in an away football match after school and I couldn't pick him up. The teacher had to drive the school mini bus past our house to get back to school so they dropped ds off at our house on the way. There is no way they would have agreed to leave any child at the swimming pool after a lesson and definitely not the whole class except 1. And the parents are being extremely unreasonable for asking the teacher to do this.

Trethew · 30/10/2023 18:08

Grossly insensitive

It puts yourself at unnecessary risk. It does no need for the eye rolls. Was the teacher even male or female? I mean come on now.

sanityisamyth · 30/10/2023 15:29

Quite

Oh my goodness, I did this by mistake, invited every girl except one, by accident !
Primary school age, and I just missed one out, awful but true

MidnightOnceMore · 30/10/2023 18:11

I don't understand how this could happen. The children were released from school early into whose care?

CesareBorgia · 30/10/2023 18:13

This came as a surprise to your DD? Had none of the children been discussing it during the day? You'd have thought they'd be frantic with excitement at a pool party after school and unable to shut up about it.
