This dress is NOT appropriate.

My niece, who is 13, sent me a link to this dress saying she would like it for Christmas. I replied saying I don’t think it’s appropriate as it’s clearly an adults dress, the neckline is too low and where would she even wear it?

She’s now really annoyed with me, saying I don’t respect her personal style and all of her friends wear similar. I’ve messaged my niece’s mum and dad who agree with me and are trying to talk to her, but she’s insisting I’m wrong and has now got the hump.

I don’t think it’s that bad with a jacket or cover up and perhaps a necklace? I wouldn’t respond to her in ape sh*t as I get why she can’t see it as being inappropriate. Can you compromise on another dress?

Surely it's a good thing for 13 year olds to get the hump at times? They push boundaries and adults reinforce them. It's part of her growing up.

Her parents agree too, so that's that.

This is fucking weird. Why does it make any difference that you are speaking 'as a father'? Fathers sexual possessiveness of their daughters is not charming or 'traditional' - it's repulsive and patriarchal and absolutely fucks their daughters up.

I wouldn't get it. There are some 13 year olds it would look fine on... but some 13 year old have essentially women's bodies, and would look much older than they are in that dress. They're still kids at 13, and you can still look beautiful and trendy whilst staying age appropriate.

Garish? 🤔 cream isnt garish. Dress isnt approp for a 13 yr old but colour couldnt be described as garish.
