Holiday tomorrow - I really don't want to go!

Don't have any choice unfortunately but I really don't want to go! Sister booked a Haven break for her two boys, her and me.

I woke up yesterday with the worst cold I've had in ages - I won't go into details but I feel properly crap. Not covid as far as I can tell but I'm a snotty, sore throated mess right now.

I've just seen the caravan we've been given and it's fucking miles from anything, surrounded by fields (which I know for a fact my sister is going to hate!) it means we're going to have to use the car for everything, and I'm not thrilled by that because sis can't physically drive atm so it'll all be on me. I honestly looked at the location and felt like crying 😭

Honestly I just want to stay at home but we're locked in at this point and if I don't go, no one will be able to go. ☹️

OP I appreciate you've both been unlucky but your sister sounds like mine - won't take insurance.

you're not safe between the wheel if you are very ill or very dosed up, probably.

Got a sick person here at present- Boots dual defense nasal spray and sambucol are being used and on day 2 they are already feeling - and looking - a little better. .://www.boots.com/boots-dual-defence-nasal-spray-20ml-10220406 First time we've used the nasal spray but I highly recommend it. Dont usually buy my adult relatives presents but I may give everyone with one of these.

I was ill like this a few weeks back and no way I was safe to drive for 90 mins, I was too weak and shaky and my brain was too foggy. I think it would be safest all round if your sister got public transport even if its a pain in the arse. I don't think you need to worry about them driving at the site unless they have mobility problems as they are usually easy to get around with lots of paths to cut across. You could always offer to pick then up at the end (or join later in the week). Safety should come first in these situations

Codlingmoths · 22/10/2023 14:11

If you are going, then if it’s a 30 minute walk to everywhere that doesn’t mean you have to walk 20 mins, that means your sister and kids can walk off to lunch or the pool or whatever and leave you in bed!

whynotwhatknot · 22/10/2023 15:16

dont drive in your state its dangerous

embolass · 22/10/2023 15:18

How u feeling now OP, what s the plan?

QuestionableMouse · 22/10/2023 16:38

Actually feeling a bit better but I've done nothing but rest today. Will make a final decision in the morning.

Did you end up going? Hope you’re feeling better ❤️

QuestionableMouse · 23/10/2023 17:53

Yes, we're here.

Van is nice but it's bloody miles away from anything. 😬

Hope you're OK - not the best weather for it!

I wouldn't go. I wouldn't fancy a caravan in October anyway, a caravan in October with a heavy cold and me doing all the driving-no way.

Caravans do have heating!
🤣

CuteCillian · 23/10/2023 18:31

At least you've gone with low expectations so maybe (fingers crossed) it won't be too bad!

Shefliesonherownwings · 23/10/2023 18:31

Having been bitten to death by bedbugs at a haven caravan recently there’s no way I’d go. Tell her about that and she might rethink it.

Not very efficient heating IME

Owl55 · 23/10/2023 18:50

Could you drop them off and go back later in the week x

dcthatsme · 23/10/2023 19:04

If you are really poorly and possibly have COVID but even if you don’t I doubt your sister will want to be in a small caravan with you sharing your germs. That might be a good way to bow out?

BeeDavis · 23/10/2023 19:20

We went to Haggerston in May and we were in Well Close which is next to where you are. Absolutely beautiful location and the van was stunning! We didn’t mind the walk but the weather was beautiful we got lucky with a heatwave! I hope you have a great week we love it there!!

central heating in a static caravan is just as good as being at home!

Mummadeze · 23/10/2023 19:23

I am going on holiday on Friday with my DD and am not looking forward to it either. I have spent a fortune so have to make the most of it, but my poor DD is really struggling with her mental health and I know travelling there and back is going to be a nightmare. She is also due her period and the one thing that would have been fun was the swimming. She is too anxious to try tampons so we probably won’t be able to use the pool. I really regret booking it. Hope you have a lovely time and that you make a quick recovery.

OK. Your home maybe.

Illbebythesea · 23/10/2023 19:28

I would go and ask to be moved again, given your sister has a physical injury too? Although you can pay to choose your caravan so maybe should have done that with hindsight… shit luck though you couldn’t be further away! I’m glad you’ve gone though op, you’re a good sister… the kids would have been so disappointed & I’m sure they’ll have so much fun.

Morgysmum · 23/10/2023 19:31

This, horrible for you. But I think a lot of people don't look at the surrounding area. We use to live near a holiday park in Lincolnshire.
If you didn't drive, you wouldn't want to go there. I don't know if it mentioned a beach in the blurb, but it was on the coast, however when the sea went out, it was at least a, 30 minute walk, to the sea, but the tide could turn a come in pretty quick, so basically you had to avoid the coastal area. The nearest beach for kids to play was Mablethorpe, 20 minutes away by car, there wasn't any public transport, I think there was random buses in the holidays, but not very often.
The village the park was in was small and not much to do, I don't know what there was to do on site, but there was a lot of people grumbling, as they hadn't realised how remote the area was, I think the might have been sold on the idea, it wasn't far from Mablethorpe. But without a car, it might have been closer to Mars.

Orangeoranges42 · 23/10/2023 19:33

Your sister would probably love a break with you.
bringing up children is hard and it would be wonderful having you there to share the fun and the boys with her.
no holiday is cheap these days so let’s value the money she has spent too.
plus you can hopefully have a few quieter days depending on the boys ages.

enjoy x

Lovemusic82 · 23/10/2023 19:37

I would just rest up in the caravan whilst they go and do things. Hopefully you will feel better in a day or two.

Redkez · 23/10/2023 19:53

Covid is a cold so that shouldn't be a factor. Take some.cld and flu and it wuppertal probably be gone before you get home. If you're ill there stay in bed and they'll have to walk.places
