Why do they irrationally annoy me? Is it anyone else?

Yes! Even worse are the “princess on board” type ones or any variant.

CesareBorgia · 21/10/2023 10:26

"I was going to ram the back of this car but I won't, seeing as there's a baby in it" - thought nobody, ever.

StEtienne93 · 21/10/2023 10:29

People don't even use them properly. You're only meant to display them when your baby is in the car, so that if you're in an accident, the emergency services will be aware to look for a baby in the wreckage. But most people display them all the time, so they could waste time trying to find a baby thats not there and potentially put themselves in danger.

Mummyme87 · 21/10/2023 10:30

Are you referring to the car badges or the ones pregnant women wear?

DontEscapeToTheCountry · 21/10/2023 10:30

YANBU.

And no a 4 inch sign attached to a substance designed to shatter into millions of pieces and surrounded by metal that's also intended to crumple upon impact is not going to alert the emergency services. It's far easier to see a baby or car seat than those stickers, which is now likely sitting on the ground in a heap of glass. The emergency services are not so incompetent that they won't check thoroughly for passengers whether or not there are visible signs of children.

buckeejit · 21/10/2023 10:34

They are definitely mild rage inducing

Total bollocks

BakedTattie · 21/10/2023 10:36

I usually find people that display these are the ones driving like lunatics

Why though? can't imagine being worked up over a sign..

GreyhpundGirl · 21/10/2023 10:40

Intensely annoying, along with 'powered by fairy dust' and any 'humorous' stickers.

SoOpenitsbrainshavefallenout · 21/10/2023 10:42

I went on a personal safety course and I was told not to advertise the fact I might be a vulnerable target with a sign like that

NorthernSpirit · 21/10/2023 10:43

They infuriate me.

I was going up ram into the back of you…. but as you’ve got a ‘princess on board’ sticker - I’ll take my aggression out on someone else.

welcometothnuthouse · 21/10/2023 10:44

Jog off with the 'fairy dust' and 'princess on board' too bollocks.

Sirzy · 21/10/2023 10:45

Yes they irrationally annoy me too.

User478 · 21/10/2023 10:48

I saw one the other day that said "OAP driver, please be patient my reflexes are slower"

Surely by the time you're buying that sign you shouldn't be driving?!

This is a myth, no doubt made up by the manufacturers of baby on board stickers

That's what I always thought. I read a story once about a baby being thrown from a car in an accident and dying because it hadn't been found in time by the paramedics.

I've just done a bit of googling and that turns out to be an urban legend. The signs were invented in the 80s by an American man who was uncomfortable with impatient drivers tailgating him when he was driving with his 18 month old nephew in the car.

Darkmode2 · 21/10/2023 10:56

I'm indifferent to them, hardly even notice them

Really don't understand the irrational hate and annoyance towards them

I find that more bizarre tbh

welcometothnuthouse · 21/10/2023 11:02

Arseholes will tailgate if they are going to whether you have a baby on board sign or not. They aren't bothered either way.

Floooooof · 21/10/2023 11:06

They only annoy me if the person with the sticker is driving like a dick

I always thought they were to encourage people to drive more carefully. Tailgating is annoying at the best of times, but when my kids are in the car it is infuriating.

happylittlesloth · 21/10/2023 11:08

They don't annoy me but those little stick families do. And fish.

Vettrianofan · 21/10/2023 11:10

Couldn't stand them years ago, still can't stand them now. Waste of time.

The fish one especially!

Pix56 · 21/10/2023 11:11

They're a good indicator of crap drivers in my experience.

Jelllytot · 21/10/2023 11:15

We never used to have one but the below has happened to us four times now so we got one because we're a bit nervous now:

We'll be driving and a car will overtake us and break really harshly and suddenly when the road is open and clear and we have to slam the breaks. It happened

  1. Moving off from traffic lights when they went green
  2. A dual carriageway where the speed limit went from 40mph to 20mph because of roadworks
  3. Another normal 20mph road in east London
  4. Same road as number 3.

Also DH is a new driver and sticks to speed limits very carefully.
