Baby on Board Stickers

Why do they irrationally annoy me? Is it anyone else?

So by that reckoning there should be signs saying...

Potential wasp on board.
May have forgotten my sunglasses.
Might decide to put the radio on.
Could possibly have a row with passenger.

The list is endless.

You might just have identified a gap in the market 😃 I'd definitely buy 'Potential Wasp On Board'.

Moveoverdarlin · 21/10/2023 18:07

Yeah the stick families annoy me more than baby on board signs.

Do you guys have the rage inducing signs people put in their yards?

Every time I see one my first thought is I’m not driving on your effing lawn keep your damn kids out of the road and it won’t matter how fast I’m driving.

(yes I know we should all be on the alert for children running out in the street… save your response…blah blah blah)

Signs on property round here are usually related to what pets might be found within. Either 'Beware of the Dog' showing a suitably scary looking dog, or 'humorous' ones:

@CesareBorgia I’m fine with those kind of signs.. I may eyeroll a bit but they at least don’t make me want to suddenly turn up and drive over them.

It must be my contrary nature that makes me hate the other ones.

Oh I don't know
My friends says "powered by bitch dust" 😁

If I drove I would definitely be getting that one😁

Prinnny · 21/10/2023 18:30

‘mummy’s little prince on board’

🤮🤮🤮🤮

CesareBorgia · 21/10/2023 18:30

My husband once expressed appreciation of a sign on a camper: If this van's a rockin' don't come a knockin'

CornishClott · 21/10/2023 18:34

Back off ! Pregnant woman on board !

Wonkasworld · 21/10/2023 18:43

They are about as useful as the new driver signs. You've either passed your test and are fit to drive, or you haven't and you're not!

NalafromtheLionKing · 21/10/2023 18:46

It’s just a sign saying “I’m a shit driver” in a nicer way 🤷‍♀️.

I once got stuck behind “Mummy’s Little Princess” and then “Grandchild on Board” in quick succession. I wonder what I had done to anger the Gods that day…

saltinesandcoffeecups · 21/10/2023 18:49

The only ones I appreciate are the “Novice Manual Driver” ones that you’ll sometimes see. (US… where automatic cars are the majority). I give them extra time to get going after a stop and watch for a stall.

If the government get their way, manual cars will be a thing of the past in the UK too with the transition to EVs.

kajwhdbsnwkao · 21/10/2023 18:53

They're cringe and give me the ick.

PinkRoses1245 · 21/10/2023 18:56

I never see the point. And the amount of cars I’ve seen with that sign, who are driving dangerously or on their phones.

GaspingGekko · 21/10/2023 19:01

@ZiriForEver

Which space would I park in? The one that's easier to park in or closer to the store I'm going to.

Are you seriously suggesting that you think people check what stickers a car is sporting before they park up? Because I'm pretty sure that's not something that most people do.

LeonBlack · 21/10/2023 19:02

I haven't seen one for ages - I assumed they'd died out.

Those badges some women on the tube wear though. I'd be mortified.

Minime88888888 · 21/10/2023 19:10

The pregnancy ones are total cringe....

SinnerBoy · 21/10/2023 22:05

I don't mind P Plates, passing a driving test doesn't mean that you are a fully competent driver, just that you've demonstrated enough skill in controlling a car and knowledge of the Highway Code to have satisfied a particular examiner that you are fit to be behind the wheel.

It takes most people a couple of years to be fully competent, which is reflected in insurance costs.

I always give L & P Plate drivers a bit more room. I mean, I didn't spring, fully formed from Zeus' head, armed with a licence and neither did anyone else!

If that were the case, more people than not would display them. It's actually showing you still lack confidence, imo.

Lilacdressinggown · 21/10/2023 22:08

It’s like displaying a football club sticker - it’s just proudly announcing you have had a baby. I went through an awful lot to have a baby. I felt SO happy to put one of those stickers in my car.

Lack confidence? Me? I've been riding motorbikes for over 30 years! Hanging back a bit from novice drivers, so that I don't make them nervous, or run into the back of them is just courtesy, not a lack of confidence.

I'm not one of these "FFS, a learner! Must get past at high speed, even though they're doing the speed limit!" types.

I'm not talking about you having a lack of confidence. I also think those stickers invite intimidation from some experienced drivers.

SinnerBoy · 21/10/2023 22:37

Why do they invite it? When you pass your driving test, it's explicit that, as a licenced road user, you should extend a bit more courtesy to less experienced road users, and other vulnerable road users.

People who feel the need to tailgate learners, or speed past them shouldn't be driving.

Will agree to disagree.

People have forgotten what those baby on board signs are for. They were designed to alert emergency services to look for a baby in the event of a crash. Sometimes infant seats can flip up and hide the baby. They were never to tell people to drive more carefully. Until I knew what they were really for, I thought they were weird too. Now they make some sense. A bit like those stickers you put on your window to let emergency services know there are animals inside the house.
