Baby on Board Stickers

Why do they irrationally annoy me? Is it anyone else?

OP posts:
Neurodiversitydoctor · 21/10/2023 16:15

I thought the point of them was to offer an explanation for potentially erratic driving eg: I might be distracted.

I have an idea for a side hustle for a sticker with " drunk teenager(s) on board" to explain the extreme cautious driving style (in order not to induce vomiting in said teen(s)) or sudden pullovers to accommodate said vomiting.

MeetyouatMidnight · 21/10/2023 16:17

I doubt it would be to apologise for erratic driving because of possible distraction.

surely if you are going to be driving erratically to the extent another driver notices you shouldn’t be on the road!?

Having car stickers/ signs is directly proportional to how shit the driver of said car is.

So they are useful. Tells me who to avoid at all costs.

NinaGeiger · 21/10/2023 16:22

I hate the car stickers but really like the TFL Pregnancy badges.

What??

If a driver is distracted by driving with their baby in the car, they need to stop driving with their baby in the car obviously. Not buy a sticker to explain how they might potentially kill everyone on the roads Confused

And if they add flags to the car during a sporting event then it’s best to leave a massive exclusion zone around them!

See they do serve a useful purpose !

Well yes in an ideal world we wpuld never be distracted whilst driving and would all drive perfectly and considerately at all times. However back on planet earth there is a reason your premiums fall when you no longer have DC under 12.

Ha! When this was first a (massive) thing, I was so irritated by it when commuting into Central London on my motorbike that I put a sign on the back of my bike that said "Bored with your baby".

😆

KimberleyClark · 21/10/2023 16:41

Trinity65 · 21/10/2023 16:40

😆

“Baby I’m Bored” signs were a thing for a while too.

My mum always used to joke about Mother in Law On Board signs when DH was driving.

So if you rear-end one of them, they are going straight to heaven? Isn't that almost asking for it?

Heaven’s cheat code: “Yes God, he’s got a higher kill count than Ted Bundy, but he had a fish sticker on his Punto so I let him in”.

LittleCrackers · 21/10/2023 17:26

My area has a trend for 'Autistic child on board' car stickers at the moment.

So by that reckoning there should be signs saying...

Potential wasp on board.
May have forgotten my sunglasses.
Might decide to put the radio on.
Could possibly have a row with passenger.

The list is endless.

I only clicked on this thread to check somebody had erroneously claimed they're for the emergency services. I'm married to a copper who has paramedic and fire siblings. All three confirm that never, in 3 decades of collective uniformed service in four different regions of the the UK, has any of them ever been taught to look for BOB signs. They do a thorough job at every accident and pay no heed to bits of plastic in cars which serves no purpose but to obscure visibility.

Me too.
A long ago debunked urban myth and I believe that the emergency services are on record as saying they're not only a waste of time, but can be actively dangerous as people waste precious time looking for a baby that might not even be there.

The ones pregnant women wear ("I'm special me, I'm the only person ever to have been pregnant ever") can fuck off as well.

I hope your username profession isn't real with that level of logic.

"I was going to ram the back of this car but I won't, seeing as there's a baby in it" - thought nobody, ever.

But maybe if there's a baby on board sticker.

alongcameboo · 21/10/2023 17:48

It's the little stick family figures for me 🤮

Exactly this!

ZiriForEver · 21/10/2023 17:56

It's a weird thing to be annoyed about.

I see some value in the parking lot, if you have a choice to park next to a car with high probability of a car seat inside and car with lower probability of a car seat inside, which space would you turn in?

largeprintagathachristie · 21/10/2023 17:57

“Grandad’s Taxi” was one I saw this week; the car also had a “little people on board” sticker and there was also a third along the same lines!

Mariposista · 21/10/2023 18:00

I am so glad it's not just me. They bring out the irrational rage in me.

Someone on my street has a "Premature baby on board" one. Extra level of WTF'ery.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 21/10/2023 18:04

Do you guys have the rage inducing signs people put in their yards?

Every time I see one my first thought is I’m not driving on your effing lawn keep your damn kids out of the road and it won’t matter how fast I’m driving.

(yes I know we should all be on the alert for children running out in the street… save your response…blah blah blah)
