Baby on Board Stickers

Why do they irrationally annoy me? Is it anyone else?

OP posts:
CatamaranViper · 21/10/2023 13:16

I really don't mind them.
My dad has one that says grandchildren on board and it's sweet because he is just so proud to be a grandad and has three grandkids he's close to.

I just see proud parents when I see them.

Mummyme87 · 21/10/2023 10:30

Are you referring to the car badges or the ones pregnant women wear?

Both piss me off to be fair. 😂

NewPinkJacket · 21/10/2023 13:38

It's really disappointing that there are still people who walk among us, who think emergency services will only check a car and surrounding area for babies if there's a pissing plastic sign in the window! 🤦‍♀️

"To be honest Sargent, I did hear faint crying coming from the ditch, but there was no baby on board sign so I didn't bother checking".

Mummyme87 · 21/10/2023 14:18

@spidermonkeys the badges pregnant women wear are valid and helpful on public transport where they may really need a seat but it’s not obvious they’re pregnant

onawave · 21/10/2023 14:29

I have a friend who constantly tell me that I need to get one. She thinks they are to warn other drivers that as I have a baby I will be sleep deprived and might make daft mistakes or my reflexes will be slowed by lack of sleep. My argument is that if I need a sign to warn other drivers that I'm so knackered I'm dangerous then I shouldn't be behind the wheel at all.

I appreciate what they are for. But I still eye-roll internally when I see them.

"I was going to ram the back of this car but I won't, seeing as there's a baby in it" - thought nobody, ever.

Precisely. They are moronic.

Mummyme87 · 21/10/2023 14:47

@spidermonkeys but why? Not sure why you need to eye roll…

They just scream a bit 'look at me, I'm pregnant'

Millions of people are pregnant and use public transport. I would just prefer people were adults and asked for seat rather than wore a badge.

Each to their own though ✌️

ShatteredPeace · 21/10/2023 15:00

They are the car equivalents of signs in your house saying Love or Home or Bath. Totally naff and pointless.

sparklefresh · 21/10/2023 15:10

I find them a bit passive aggressive. Like 'ooh, aren't I special and much more important than you, I've got a BABY in my car! I might be a shit driver but you can't be annoyed because I've got a BABY!'

bathrobeandpie · 21/10/2023 15:10

They deserve an eye roll.

No one ever drives differently because of them. Sadly, most drivers don't even adapt their driving when they see a "driving school" sign!

Davros · 21/10/2023 15:17

I thought the fish ones were to signify that the driver is a Christian

welcometothnuthouse · 21/10/2023 15:24

The fish one is Ichthus and refers to Christianity. Abit different to the other signs mentioned.

LolaSmiles · 21/10/2023 15:25

It's not so much the signs that are stupid, but the people who have them
Agree with this. As if anyone thinks they're going to drive differently because daddy's little princess is on board.

I've started to wonder if they're actually a twee way of saying "I'm probably not actually paying attention to the road so please assume I'm going to do stupid things like stop at empty roundabouts, have crap lane discipline, and am likely to not maintain an appropriate speed for the road and conditions ".

pigsDOfly · 21/10/2023 15:40

When my children were in junior school I knew a woman who had a 'mum's taxi' sticker in her car.

For some reason it really irritated me.

Anyone who thinks that a baby on board sticker serves any purpose whatever or is going to make people drive more carefully around them is dilutional.

I think that’s it!

SoOpenitsbrainshavefallenout · 21/10/2023 10:42

I went on a personal safety course and I was told not to advertise the fact I might be a vulnerable target with a sign like that

Agree.

I was told by police officers in the family, that if you are regularly a lone female driver, you should get a car in a gender neutral (preferably dark) colour, and don't have any sort of interior decorations.
The people who drive around in unusual-coloured cars, which obvious "girly" decorations on the inside, are much more likely to attract attention.
Get a car that blends in with the masses. The more anonomous you are on the roads, the better.

The "baby on board" signs advertise that the driver is probably female, and most likely under the age of 35.

GreenWheat · 21/10/2023 15:45

I think they're twee and silly. But I think all car stickers are twee and silly...

AngelinaFibres · 21/10/2023 15:53

Vettrianofan · 21/10/2023 11:11

The fish one especially!

Isn't the fish one to indicate that you are Christians. Weird thing to have a sticker for imo

TidyDancer · 21/10/2023 16:04

The baby on board signs are tacky and cringey. Used by people who want the world to think they are special because they have reproduced. Or those who continue to believe the bollocks about them being needed to show there's a baby in the car in the event of a crash.

Tilllly · 21/10/2023 16:07

GreyhpundGirl · 21/10/2023 10:40

Intensely annoying, along with 'powered by fairy dust' and any 'humorous' stickers.

Oh I don't know
My friends says "powered by bitch dust" 😁

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 21/10/2023 16:09

I think it's just yet another mildly irritating example of oversharing.

KimberleyClark · 21/10/2023 16:11

Greenshake · 21/10/2023 10:24

Yes! Even worse are the “princess on board” type ones or any variant.

YANBU “Cheeky monkey on board”, “grandchild on board”. “Keep your DISTANCE, give our CHILD a CHANCE”. They are all annoying.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 21/10/2023 16:11

Davros · 21/10/2023 15:17

I thought the fish ones were to signify that the driver is a Christian

So if you rear-end one of them, they are going straight to heaven? Isn't that almost asking for it?
