At what age did you had your second DC

DH thinks we are older parents at 40 and 35 respectively. Our friends had DC early in 20s and early 30s. We had our first DC in early 30s and we are planning for second. I have been arguing that we are average age and it's not too late.
Please share your opinions and when you had your second DC

Had my first at 28, second at 29, and third at 38, almost (two weeks short of) 39. So long as you are all healthy and happy it doesn't matter what age you or your DP are, whenever you have your first, second, whatever child. Good luck. 👍

Mamoun · 02/03/2024 14:35

30, 32 and 36

mumof2nanof1 · 02/03/2024 14:38

First at 26, second at 36

Hellogoodbyehello4321 · 02/03/2024 14:39

I think you'll only be slightly above average OP for a 2nd. I think it depends on your social group but I only know one person who had babies in their 20s.
Most of my friends didn't start having children until 33, 34, a couple had their first at 37 let alone their second.
I'm 40 so this is in the last 5 years as you've asked. I definitely don't think being 35 would raise eyebrows at all, especially not with a 2nd. But then it depends where you live.

MaryShelley1818 · 02/03/2024 15:12

I would imagine 35 is very average, especially among more middle class areas and professionals. There was only one person in my group of friends had children pre-30s.
I was 39 and 42 with mine.

Strokethefurrywall · 02/03/2024 15:13

DS1 - 31 (just shy of 32nd birthday)
DS2 - 34

Itjustdepends · 02/03/2024 15:16

First at 33 (Dh in 20’s), second at 40 after suffering many years of secondary infertility 😢 and ivf. 3rd and 4th at just turned 42.

neverbeenskiing · 02/03/2024 15:21

I was 29 when I had the first 34 when I had the second which was about average for our social circle.

iLovee · 02/03/2024 15:37

28 when I had my 1st, 30 when I had my second.

I'm 30 now, if that gives any context.

I was one of the younger ones in our NCT group and the first out of my friends to have a baby!

Allfleshisgrass · 02/03/2024 15:45

I was 41. Not the oldest in my NCT group or the primary school gate mums. Definitely not too late. Who decides if there’s a ‘too late’ anyway? My Grandma’s mother was 44 when she had her.

Wooloohooloo · 02/03/2024 16:22

Had mine at 25 and 35, different dads. Ideally would have liked a smaller gap and the same dad but life doesn't work out that way and there have been a lot of advantages too.

CloseYourMouthLynn · 02/03/2024 19:08

I was 37 when I had my second. Probably would have had a third if we could have afforded it/had more space!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/03/2024 20:09

I was 31. My dd was 39. And she had a third at 42.

onanotherday · 11/03/2024 18:52

40...don't regret it she is 20 now

Shadowchaser · 11/03/2024 18:55

24,29,31

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 11/03/2024 18:58

First 18, second 19. A boy and a girl and both very much wanted and loved. I had 7 children by the time I was 30.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 11/03/2024 19:00

If you want another baby then go for it. You're both certainly not too old and having a sibling/s for your child will be wonderful.

PurpleChrayn · 11/03/2024 19:01

I had DC1 when I was 39.

Trying for DC3 now, and I just turned 43.

Myotheripodisayoto · 11/03/2024 19:01

If you are in london/south east its relatively normal.

I was 31 & 34.

I think people leave it too late though. More and more people have miscarriages as you get through your thirties (me included). We are really in the better state to bear children in our 20s.

Cannotmakeitwork · 11/03/2024 19:02

#1 me 36 and DH 44
#2 me 40 and DH 48

infertility is an arse

K0OLA1D · 11/03/2024 19:06

I had my 1st at 21, 2nd at 23. I'm 33 now. My close friends were all done by late 20s. At work there is a mix. There are 2 close work colleagues who haven't started yet, but want to soon and are around 31/32. Another currently pregnant with their 2nd at 33.

If you want a 2nd though the choice is yours alone. It doesn't matter what anyone else does or did. Good luck!
