To think David Beckham just looks like a standardly attractive man?

All these threads about the Beckham documentary and so many people going on about how 'easy on the eye' / beautiful he is.

I'm not saying he's unattractive but I don't get why he's so objectified?

He just looks like any average bloke to me.

Why the hysteria over his looks?

No, he is and was objectively good looking. But not remotely attractive to me. Tatts, Botox, other face stuff have made him look weird, and excessive vanity is unattractive in a man. I know he's not dim because of where he's got in life. But he's not funny or sharp or interesting, all the sparky things that make a man sexy. Gary Neville though, who knew?!

Graciebobcat · 14/10/2023 07:40

The average bloke at 48 is somewhat porridgey and probably still thinks they are as attractive as DB.

Beckham is way above average. There are lots of nice looking men in film and TV in their late 40s, not so much in real life.

Personally for me the personality is what makes a man attractive. Obviously there needs to be a spark but when I met my husband (and many other men in my life, colleagues, friends etc) I have not found them physically attractive until I know them better. My husband is a very average man. Seemingly quiet and on the side at a party where as I am more extrovert. He has a wicked sense of humour that takes a while for anyone to notice, is unassuming and a gentleman. When I look at him I think of him as far far more handsome than the David Beckhams of this world who can't speak properly. Often wise I see very attractive men and then they speak with poor intellect and grammar and I am instantly turned off. It is so much more than looks in my humble opinion but there will always be the shallow folk who think looks matter.

And then there are the shallow folk who judge how you speak...

I think he was more handsome in his heyday. I didn’t fancy him at the time because he isn’t really my type but watching the Netflix docu, I can see why so many did in the 00s. Doesn’t do it for me now whatsoever, I think he’s had an eye lift and it’s made him look weird.

crumblylancs · 14/10/2023 08:13

Average 😂 how many 47 year olds do you all know who look like he does!

I don't particularly fancy him but I can appreciate he is a good looking man. For those saying too much Botox, I was watching to documentary last night and he's got plenty of lines around his eyes! I don't think he's had as much as being mentioned

Threewordseightletters · 14/10/2023 08:15

He has aged very fast and really badly. There are loads of actors his age or older who have aged far better- Rupert Graves, Andrew Scott, Paul Rudd, Nigel Harman, Benedict Cumberbatch to name a few. The tattoos are utterly grim especially on hands and neck.

Valstarino · 14/10/2023 08:43

He's pretty attractive for a British man.

stonkytonk11 · 14/10/2023 08:49

He would look sooo much better without the 'work' - if he'd embraced the ageing process/wrinkles he'd look v handsome. Weird how they all do that - it never, ever makes them look better!

genesis92 · 14/10/2023 08:55

The documentary made me realise how bloody attractive he was in his younger days. I was young then so wouldn't have noticed.

He's definitely not average, shame he has to open his mouth though. Although his voice has definitely got better

I know right?! Not my type but my best friend’s crush when she was younger, Mickey Rourke, he’s completely ruined himself with plastic surgery. Sad.

I know he likes the tattoos and it’s his body his choice, but overdoing them is never a good look in my opinion.

I love the tattoos on him but then DH also had loads

goingtotown · 14/10/2023 09:26

Too many tattoos make him look grubby.

Cas112 · 14/10/2023 09:39

He was FIT when he was younger haha but I don't see it now

I just always saw him as a pretty boy, with floppy hair. Should’ve been my type looks wise but just didn’t do it for me! There are loads of young men similar to him in looks in Essex which is near where he’s from.

Cowlover89 · 14/10/2023 10:25

He's sexy

LlynTegid · 14/10/2023 10:26

What I will respect and admire him for is his football career. Average talent but through hard work and determination became an international footballer and adapted in his career as the game changed and in footballing terms he became older.

StrawberryWater · 14/10/2023 10:30

He honestly does nothing for me.

Lampzade · 15/10/2023 13:49

He was attractive when he was younger, but not so much now.
He has had too much done and looks strange. He comes across as quite vain and image obsessed
Victoria looks good though
However, the most gorgeous players at that time were Freddie Ljungberg and Thierry Henry. Thierry good looking and with the sexy French accent ..

Gary Neville was very interesting

tiredofbeingadmired · 15/10/2023 14:03

I met him a decade ago and he was tiny and wizened then.

Makingplansfor2029 · 15/10/2023 14:20

I’ve never found him remotely attactive, especially in his youth where he was very very average. He has certainly aged reasonably well and is now an attractive man, bar the neck tattoos.

my DP is 51 and I would say is still extremely attractive and aging brilliantly. I think that at least half of the late 40/50 something men I know still look great. Mostly slim, fit and well dressed. The rest look dreadful, there is rarely anything in the middle

NeverBeenAMum · 28/09/2024 11:54

Never understood the hype when he was lusted after by girls. I didn't deny that he was a 'textbook-kind-of-handsome' or 'out-dated way handsome' young man, yet... unattractive. Hearing him speak for the first time proved my assessment of him right.

AutumnBride · 28/09/2024 11:55

This is a nearly year old thread.

HRTQueen · 28/09/2024 12:03

He is nice looking with lots of preening to make him look better

I don’t find him attractive but I am sure he can live with that
