Yodel driver opened my front door

Neverwatchedgameofthrones · 05/10/2023 10:57

Heard a knock at the door when I was in the bath. Shouted hang on, wrapped a towel round me and went downstairs.

Found Yodel driver stood in my doorway with the front door open taking a picture.

This isn't OK is it? I've tried calling Yodel but it's just automated and I've tried their live chat but that was useless too. I don't keep the front door locked if I'm in the house but will in future!

They are taking a picture of the parcels /you receiving as evidence it’s been Delivered

flipent · 05/10/2023 11:01

I'd be surprised if he hear exactly what you shouted - could have thought it was an invitation?

Doesn't sound like he did anything inappropriate other than opening a door that wasn't locked... He'd not made himself at home.
He's trying to do his job, which is to deliver a parcel to you.

Make sure your doors are locked, even when you're home and move on.

Needcoffeeimmediatley · 05/10/2023 11:01

Lock your door, but yes I would be annoyed if a delivery driver opened my front door.

Neverwatchedgameofthrones · 05/10/2023 11:02

But he opened my front door to do it? I didn't open it, the driver did. When I came downstairs he had already opened my door and was stood with it wide open?

I don't think that's the OPs concern or point.

They opened the door - which they 100% shouldn't do. Taking a photo of the parcel implies it has been successfully delivered - it hasn't.

What's to say he doesn't take the photo and then feck off with it? Then Yodel are "covered" for theft or failed delivery because they have a fake 'delivered' photo. It's wrong on so many levels.

I'd take to Twitter (X) to complain as social media is so often the only way to get noticed by some companies nowadays.

(Always lock your door, OP!).

Did you say anything to him like "WTF are you doing open my door?!"

BarnacleBeasley · 05/10/2023 11:03

Might he have thought you shouted 'come in'?

An Evri driver (must have) climbed over my 6ft garden gate the other day. It doesn't open from the outside and I found my parcel at the back door.

HeatherMoores · 05/10/2023 11:04

How can someone just open your door while you’re in the bath?

IslaWinds · 05/10/2023 11:05

It’s not ok, but he might have heard the “hang on” as “come in”
I would still report it to Yodel.

Yes, I said what the hell do you think you are doing opening my door.
He said nothing, carried on taking his photos and went down the path. I shut the door until he had gone and he came back and took the parcel.

By using the door handle. It wasn't locked.

All delivery drivers round our way do this. I'd rather they pop it in the front door than me missing the delivery tbh.
Could he have taken your unlocked door as a sign that you wanted your parcel delivering?

VickyEadieofThigh · 05/10/2023 11:08

What he did was very wrong, but YABU not locking your door, especially when you're in the bath.

Keep yourself safe - this driver has just showed you how unsafe you actually are.

He took the parcel? I am confused 😕

Thank you. I had no idea this was a thing as I've never known it happen before.

Me too 😁

Did you shut the door leaving the parcel outside?

Wait, what? He came back and took the parcel?

Dotjones · 05/10/2023 11:11

Use this experience as a warning that you should always lock your door when you are in the home. If you leave it unlocked people might come in uninvited. Trespassing is not a criminal offence in itself, and whilst you could pursue a civil case it's unlikely you'd get anywhere because the person was just doing their job so it would be difficult for you to quantify any financial loss because of inappropriate behaviour on their part.

He put the parcel on my doorstep, opened the door. I found him doing this, shut the door and left the heavy parcel on the front step so I could put a dressing gown on at least. He came back and took it off the front step. He never put the parcel inside the house, he just opened the door behind it. So I also don't have a parcel now.

It’s the done thing where I live. If we’re expecting a delivery we leave the door unlocked (sometimes ajar if it’s by a delivery company that we don’t normally use). I was surprised the first time it happened with the postie then saw that it’s the norm here and can be very handy.

HelpMeGetThrough · 05/10/2023 11:11

I had this with the Royal Mail. I'd heard the door and was in my way down stairs to answer.

All I saw was the door open slightly and a hand coming in. I kicked the front door fairly hard to stop who it was.

Told them they were taking the piss and I wasn't sorry for what I did, as I had no idea what they were attempting to do.

Never heard another thing about it.

I don't want to open a civil case and I am extremely shook up, so I've learned my lesson about locking doors. Thank you for your advice.

I can completely understand why he took the parcel back.

It wasn't delivered. You shut the door and left it outside. Why didn't you take it in before closing the door?

Blimey, I thought I was a bit laid back not locking the front door. You must live somewhere safe if you are prepared to leave your front door open too! Sounds lovely. xx
