Of course I'm not, it's Halloween, let's get scared.

So what is the spookiest/most unexplainable experience you had? We're talking paranormal here.

😱 at that chess story

@ketchup07070
I get sleep paralysis too and have had the exact same experiences! I woke up once to find a humongous figure in the doorway of my bedroom, he was so tall he was crouched over. He was evil. I also feel someone sitting on my chest and it can feel hard to breathe. Terrifying!

3tumsnot1 · 05/10/2023 19:20

Lol. No we’re just clearly stupid! In all honestly the flat was beautiful. Massive open rooms, huge windows…. Just a few extra guests 🤣🤣

3tumsnot1 · 05/10/2023 19:22

It was a lovely flat and we didn’t think of it being scary until we lived there 🤦🏻‍♀️

As teenagers we used to go on all day bike rides during the school holidays.

One summer around 1980 we were riding round some old villages in Northamptonshire and saw this long tree-lined track. We headed off down there and came to this enormous house, partially tumble down, but windows open and you could hear people talking and the occasional shout.

We parked our bikes and tried to look through the gaps between the gate hinges and the stone wall. It looked and sounded like a film was taking place for a filmset. Curious we walked around the place, but it was surrounded by a tall stone wall. At the back was a tall bank covered in bushes with some farm equipment stored next to it so we were able to climb up these and look in. What we saw was truly weird, frightening and bizarre.

The courtyard was marked out like a giant chessboard. People were dotted around this arena being moved about like chess pieces by others who were obviously the players. The 'pieces' were wearing simple clothes, mostly worn or dirty. The players were wearing nice clothes, modern and crisp. None of the 'pieces' looked like they wanted to be there. They were tied up with hands behind their backs, standing in marked out spots. One man was tied up in a kneeling position. Some were crying, shaking and all were very unhappy. One had a very clear nose bleed. One of the players started hitting one of the male 'pieces' with a thick cane. The players were mostly sitting down on deck chairs or sun loungers on one edge of the arena, but one of the 'pieces' had been taken over there and was kneeling down as the players all rested their feet on her.

We felt really uncomfortable and ran back to our bikes. We were about halfway up the long track when we heard a vehicle approaching at speed. We shot down a bank with our bikes and hid among the kek and foliage. A navy blue minibus drove past towards the public road and the next village. We felt we needed to stay there hidden. After about 10 minutes the minibus came back slowly, braking every so often for the driver and passenger to look around. It was obvious now we had been spotted somehow and they were trying to track us down. Eventually we left and headed off home sticking to main roads all the way peddling as hard as we could.

Years later I read about a religious cult in that area that has since been disbanded. There were rumours of bad treatment of members and I always wondered if we had stumbled across the same or similar organisation.

Give over 😁

ketchup07070 · 05/10/2023 20:06

@WickWood I hope you are free of it now. I know the science, but the sense of evil is so real that I half believe there is a supernatural thing going on. I do believe the supernatural has no real power to harm us, however scary it appears though. And I hear@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz has a plan for a MN psychic army to defeat the critters, mainly by withering scorn.

I've nothing to add at the moment, but you all might like to know, if you don't already, that the lovely Danny is back on Radio Four with series 3 of Uncanny - and there are going to be some Uncanny TV specials, starting on BBC 2 on Friday 13th of this month.

Woo hoo!
Or do I mean Boo?

Thanks for the heads-up.

My sleep paralysis stopped when I changed bedrooms it is terrifying to go through. It always felt like a male presence I could feel someone touching my arm. The scariest and only time I felt like there was a female in the bed was I was lying on my belly and felt someone over me whispering in my ear. It sounded like an old woman and she was saying a limerick my heart was racing and then it went. I could not remember the limerick my only explanation was that I watched something on tv. It was years later when I watched a series on hauntings and there was a lady that felt she was terrorised at night by something called the old hag.

I’d say so.
It’s too far fetched to be believable. And surely, after witnessing so shocking a sight, you’d call the police ASAP, not idly pondering about what it might have been years later.

I remember the quasimodo turnip chomper...it's so creepy because it would be such an odd thing to make up so seems scarier than most.

Yes exactly! I mean it would help also if you'd known the person closely for 30 years and know them to be totally honest and sane and straight down the line - but everyone here can only read the thread and make their own mind up.

On the subject of psychic abilities (which was touched on near the beginning of thread) i had a strange one as a teen. It was 'witnessed', if you like, by my friend (not the veg chomping thing friend) which makes it more believable ?

So i was left alone to house sit for 10 days in our house in W London for the first time, while my parents went to Wales in the summer holls. I was 15 iirc. I'm an only child so my parents agreed that my friend could come and help house sit with me.

On day 5 ish we were slobbed in the living room with a mess all around us (plan was to do big clean up on last day) and i suddenly had the clearest picture in my head of my parents coming along a specific bit of road about 15 mins away! (Three Bridges near Osterley/Ealing if anyone's interested). I could see them as if i was floating in front of the car going backwards if that makes sense. I could see clearly where they were.

I KNEW i had about 15 mins to clear up the god awful mess we'd made (NOT another 5 days). I made my mate get up and start cleaning, she was totally Confused but did what i said. We roared around tidying and washing up.

15 mins later in walked my parents .... (house was basically tidy)

They were all ''Oh we came home because the holiday cottage was horrible and the car's playing up and we thought we'd try and catch you guys out ha ha. House looks good!''.
Shock

Could it have been this crowd? Based at Bugbrooke, not far at all from Fawsley Hall and Staverton, mentioned on the Goatman thread.

I posted this before under a different username - update it to say this happened about 20 years ago:

This will be outing so I'd better name change soon! But I experienced a time slip in London about 15 years ago.

I was sent on an errand to another office so left work on a bright clear day. I worked in the Cheapside area of the city - where a Christmas Carol was set. I walked up Cheapside/ Poultry in the direction of Bank of England. To my left was a street that was either Old Jewry or the street adjacent to it. So I take a short cut up that street. Nice day, escaped from the office, stills fairly new to London and loved it - all was good. Walked up the street, all fairly bland offices, modern and tall. I was the only person on the street. Suddenly out of nowhere I felt the most indescribable terror come out of nowhere - I almost expected to hear someone shout 'run'' It felt like something or someone was coming for me. I glanced at the offices but suddenly they were different - they were lower than ground level so that the pavement bisected the windows, and the buildings were now old - they looked like old fashioned sweet shows with those windows with the small square panes and occasional round bit jutting out. All around me I could hear noise - hustle and bustle, hooves on cobbles, barrels rolling, voices talking and shouting out to each other. The sky was dark and the air thick with a brownish mist (smog?) My head was hurting and I just lost it and ran towards the end of the street like my life depended on it.

And then everything was normal. Sky was normal and blue and clear, buildings were as they should be, no noise out of the ordinary. My headache went instantly, my feeling of terror went instantly - I felt completely ok. Freaked out by what just happened but completely my normal self.

The funniest thing was there was a chap smoking across from me and as I stood there baffled he jumped a mile and said 'where the hell did you come from?!' When I told him he said he'd literally just walked out of there and there had been no one there - so now as well as my own time slip I wonder if I feature in some bloke's story about the girl who appeared out of thin air!

and I followed the post with

it took me about a year to pluck up the courage to go back and when I did, really hyped up, it was all so ordinary. I checked every street in case I'd got confused about the street I'd originally walked through but nothing even close to what I'd experienced (it felt more Victorian than medieval).

The odd thing is that I am not woo but seem like I should be. I loooove stories about the paranormal and ghosts, I'm a creative type (artist, writer, actor) with a huge imagination and everyone always assumes I live in a fantasy land, but I'm actually seriously scientific and logical. I so want to believe, I really really do, but without hard proof I just can't.

Except for the time slip. No matter what I think of I just can't explain it. Wasn't a film set or actors - I didn't see any people (except shop - see below) and it definitely wasn't a set. Why would a prop house be built halfway below a modern pavement? Inside I could see an old man in Victorian attire, spectacles- he had a kindly manner and was moving back and forth like he was getting things from shelves. He had white hair a male pattern baldness, a soft round face and wide nose. He looked kind. He was passing things to a small lad in brown cap and trousers, white top brown jacket and like a dark ribbon tied around his neck, like a tie but not quite. He was slight and had dark hair. I can still see them but they weren't solid - not as if I were to see a real person. But they weren't see-through either. It was like they were indistinct and vague - like seeing someone through mist.

Sorry, off track there! But if it was a hallucination what caused it? I was in fine health, not stress. And what about the guy who saw me come out? Why didn't he see me when he walked through? He should have.

If someone else told me this story I'll be honest, I wouldn't believe them. Because I am known to have a vivid imagination I don't tell anyone any more as I get a few eye rolls (my mum believes me though!) But with woo stuff normally I'm trying to find evidence that it was supernatural, and failing. This time I'm trying to find a logical explanation and failing!

Are you sure you didn't just walk down Bow Lane? 😊

I thought I'd had a time slip, or had seen a ghost one time near there on Old Bailey, when it was a foggy, dark evening and I saw a policeman but wearing a more old fashioned uniform of a helmet, but not even the usual one they had up until the 1980s or so and also a cape/greatcoat- this was in about 2004.

Most police in London looked like this, as they do now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Policeuniforms_and_equipment_in_the_United_Kingdom#/media/File:London_Marathon_2014_-_Police.jpg

The one I saw looked more like this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_uniforms_and_equipment_in_the_United_Kingdom#/media/File:1919_Battle_of_George_Square_-_David_Kirkwood.jpg

Then I looked it up and found out it likely was just a modern City of London policeman, and their uniform differed from the Met police then, or it was a dress uniform, it's a bit more similar now I think. 😁

I swear there are some posters on MN who would send Satan himself shrieking in fear back to the underworld Grin

Never ever underestimate the power of the Paddington Hard Stare to strike fear into hearts ...

I moved in to a house when I was pregnant on my 2nd son.
The minute I opened the door I knew the house was haunted.
It was just so unwelcoming..
I said it to my dp,of course he didn't believe me.

Awful atmosphere in the house, especially upstairs in the 2 nd bedroom.

I knew it was an old man,I could see him in my head.
But one of the scariest things to happen was I was in bed upstairs,2 kids in the same room.
Dp was out.

Anyway I woke up to the front door opening, and it's loud as it basically scrapped against the step to open.
Heard a plastic bag, thought dp was in with food.
Fell back asleep, woke up later and went downstairs, nobody there.
No bag,no takeaway boxes , absolutely nothing.
I rang DP ,he swore it wasn't him and he came back.

He was out for a few drinks,so if he came home especially with food,he wasn't going back out.

That really scared me.

I love these threads. I always think of the farmhouse floating lady and also remember a poster who felt something evil in her grandparents/parents house iirc? Her dad was ill and she had lots of bad luck. I often think of her.

What happened to him? Did you shut the door on him? Did he disappear?

Why is this on a supernatural/woo thread, though? Isn’t it more likely that a pale, dishevelled man who knocks on a door at 3 am, isn’t properly dressed for a cold night and is talking incoherently, has had a car accident, a stroke, a MH episode or had dementia and wandered off? I mean, I can imagine it was discombobulating, but you seem to have leapt to a supernatural explanation when you say no one local had died…?
