Of course I'm not, it's Halloween, let's get scared.

So what is the spookiest/most unexplainable experience you had? We're talking paranormal here.

Sorry, that was in response to @Feelingfree2023 ’s post.

If you read OP's opening post it also encapsulates unexplainable things. This could be UAPs, for example. Big cats in Devon or naked walkers in the Peak District. Most threads end up with posters consolidating on the first 20 posts and running with that. One or two posters will open up0 the subject to wider things.

When I was about 16, I practically forced my then boyfriend to do a ouija board. Stupid things to mess with, I now know.

He was incredibly irritated by the whole thing and thought it was ridiculous. No words came through. We took our hands off the glass and the S letter moved out of the circle and span around very fast one way and then the other. I looked at my bf and started to speak and he said 'Yes, I saw it!!!!'

Tambatamba · 06/10/2023 21:11

Another story concerns a Geography residential field trip that we went on with my girls school in the 90s. We were staying in a big place in the Lake District. When we got there, we noticed a number of young people from other schools hobbling around on crutches. After a few days, several girls from our school had also injured themselves and were on crutches. My friend got the most awful skin flare up rash type thing. And one wing of the house was freezing cold and stank of rotting vegetables. Another girl had a seizure, having been off her epilepsy meds for years.

It seems as though there was bad energy - we later found out it had been a hospital for people very ill with TB.

BuggysBlueberry · 06/10/2023 21:23

Does anyone remember the story of the lady holidaying in Somerset or Wiltshire in a B&B. She went upstairs to the bathroom and had an overwhelming sense of evil in the room opposite the loo, behind her. Long story short she eventually turned round just in time to catch a glimpse of a
grotesque, haggard looking goat/tree/woman hybrid floating off the floor eminating pure evil. That one was bone chilling, stayed with me for a long time.

DamnUserName21 · 06/10/2023 21:38

@BuggysBlueberry
I do! I mentioned it upthread. Scariest woo post I've read on here, whether true or not.
I don't remember what thread it was on but it stayed with me also.
I hope someone finds it and reposts.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 06/10/2023 21:41

@BuggysBlueberry yes!! that was mentioned previously on this thread, ive not found that post since but its the single most terrifying thing ive read on MN! i hoped it was made up but i think it may be genuine 😳

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 06/10/2023 21:44

@BuggysBlueberry i believe it was Somerset and she popped back to her room in the daytime and stopped in the open doorway feeling something ominous behind her, would love to read it again

MadCatLady27 · 06/10/2023 22:04

Following this with interest, I've been a long term lurker and remember Goat Man, which then lead me to Savernake Forest, if that was made up the poster should write a book as it was utterly chilling

There was also a thread like this with people posting spooky stories and one person said about how they were in a hotel (?) and I can't remember if they saw something in the original room or had the sense to run, but there was something there but they felt the overwhelming sense of pure evil and not to look. Was utterly utterly chilling I'm sure they put a picture of described what it looked like

Feelingfree2023 · 06/10/2023 22:14

Hi Hernes, it was spooky and odd. I don't know that anyone had died but it was certainly scary. He was incoherent and I didn't know what was going on. It was frightening and although I can't say it was supernatural, I can't say it wasn't either.

Hence the inclusion on this thread.

DamnUserName21 · 06/10/2023 22:14

@MadCatLady27 I just posted about that and linked the thread.

BuggysBlueberry · 06/10/2023 22:17

@DamnUserName21 yess!! Thank you! It’s all the more scary reading the ensuing discussion with another poster about what it could have been - a skinwalker, or some kind of ancient earth demon linked to the land. And the that the witness must have had a powerful spirit guardian to fend it off…… urgh, it was vile vile vile. So deeply disturbing 😭

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 06/10/2023 22:22

@DamnUserName21 well done! Will have another read and crap myself!!!

Caerulea · 06/10/2023 22:28

Not me but DS3 at about 1 & a half.

We were on holiday in the south of France & visited the Palais des Papes in Avignon, one of quite a few palaces & castles we went in. As we walked up the steps to the entrance DS3 started to kick off, which was out of character. When we got to the actual entrance the child went absolutely batshit. Screaming, writhing, just in absolute panic & desperate not to go in. Eventually we decided to do two trips round, take it in turns to sit outside with him. I did the second trip. Part way round I noticed a painting that depicted some kind of massacre on the steps, spilling in through the entrance. It was as gross as you would expect. It didn't say what it was or had happened & wasn't a particularly big painting.

Later in that same holiday, I don't recall the town, but we went to walk across a small road onto the rather fancy town square - & DS3 did it again, completely out of the blue. Wild screaming & thrashing around (he was in a carrier). Just beside himself. We did a touristy bus tour later in the day &, you've guessed it, the square was where the public hangings used to take place.

He never did anything like it ever again & is now 15.

About 12 years ago, we bought our first home
which was a really nice flat in an old converted mental hospital.
the hospital was an old Victorian institution, so amazing architecture, grand sash windows, huge grounds. One of the bedrooms was in a tower. It was the only room in the tower, so nothing above or below it and you accessed it internally.

We knew the hospital had a bad reputation - for how it used to treat people, in the social club there was old black and white pictures of people chained to beds, in photos on the walls. It had a reputation for mistreatment, and it had a creepy feel to it. things like the gym were in the old morgue - situated underground without windows.

it was the kind of place, that gave you the creeps. Sometimes when it was at the gym on my own my hair would stand up on my arms and I’d have to leave too afraid to look back.

One night I was asleep with my Oh next to me. My baby was asleep in the tower, when the baby monitor crackled on and started playing old fashioned creepy music. It woke us both up, completely startled and was loud and immediately frightening. The music sounded like a grand piano, and on top of that was loads of voices laughing. But not laughing like we do today, laughing in an old fashioned creepy way lots of ‘ha ha ha’s - If you know what I mean. After five minutes it crackled off again. This was at 3-4am on a Thursday morning. In disbelief we were both sat bolt up, wide eyed and completely frozen, creeped out.

The baby monitor it was linked to our babies room in the tower.

A few minutes later it happened again. Crackling on, with the strange spooky laughing, laughing over and over - lots of different voices, with this old fashioned music in the background. Hairs stood on the backs of necks and a complete feeling at the time that it wasn’t right. This time my OH jumped up and ran straight to the tower and got our baby back. We, all three of us huddled together in our bedroom, terrified. We switched the baby monitor off at the wall and eventually went back to sleep with all the lights on…

It was Completely terrifying, but never happened again.

Even I would not want to live in a place converted from a mental hospital!

StowOnTheWold · 06/10/2023 22:45

The Somerset farmhouse hag creature is described on that thread very similar to how the Goatman picture looks in the other thread and how it appears in the Fortean Times. The sort of loose horned feet connected to a part human / goat body.

bemorebernard · 07/10/2023 00:08

So people believe in goatmen but not the savernake wood story because the writing was eloquently done 🤷🏻‍♀️

How bizarre.

bemorebernard · 07/10/2023 00:12

For the record the goat man was more than likely a deer .

Since no one else is reporting 6 ft men looking like goats around the area ! 😂

Or another thought

It could be a dogging site . People who go dogging wear masks and run around naked . Two men once ran out on me , one completely naked save for a wolf mask .

I'd say that's much more likely to be honest!

I remember watching Arthur C Clarke's World of Strange Powers when I was about 9 years old, and the episode about ghosts scared me for years. Particularly the story of the monk figure in the bedroom and the Newby church photo.

https://burialsandbeyond.com/2019/03/05/the-spectre-of-newby-church/

The newby church photo terrified.me, still does. The figure is as clear as anything and very creepy looking!

bemorebernard · 07/10/2023 00:15

Just read near a lay by

Defo dogging . Men in masks.

SplendidUtterly · 07/10/2023 02:23

Why am i reading this at 2.20am😕

Ilovecakey · 07/10/2023 04:48

That picture looks like the scream mask

Ilovecakey · 07/10/2023 04:49

The Newby Church photo I mean

@Seychal oh i've twice seen weird lights.

Once i was alone at the time. 2am ish, in the car. I saw an orange arrangement of lights in a sort of sausage shape, hovering low over the road between my village and the one before it. I didn't stop.

Second time was nearer 3am. I was alone in the car again, and was going along watching these lights, and came to another car which was in front of me stopped in the middle of the lane. A bloke had got out and was watching as well. So i know i wasn't dreaming that one!

This second one was 4 triangles of orange light just hovering. Then one shot off away and up at lighting speed. The rest stayed but moved about in formation for a while, then shot away too.

Walking with my friend in the 80s and we saw 3 round orange lights arranged in a triangle. As we watched them hovering on the horizon one of them shot off at an angle
