Of course I'm not, it's Halloween, let's get scared.

So what is the spookiest/most unexplainable experience you had? We're talking paranormal here.

I lost a beauty item in the house for weeks recently, well yesterday I searched every where I could have possibly put it and couldn't find it so ordered a new one on amazon.

Literally within an hour of ordering a new one, I found the old one, in a place that I had looked many times!! I had only days before cleaned out that little area and it was not there.

Not necessarily spooky but definitely unexplained.

Graciebobcat · 16/10/2023 13:14

Yes, I find that happens with hairbrushes in my house.

The fact I have two DDs may be something to do with it, but it does feel sometimes that we have a ghost who likes hairbrushes.

CoffeeCantata · 16/10/2023 14:30

I apologise if this has been mentioned already but if you want to scare yourself half to death, listen to Danny Robins's podcast on BBC Sounds 'The Witch Farm'.

I'm certainly a sceptic, but an open-minded one who has had experience of 'poltergeist activity' among other phenomena, and it just blew my mind!

How anyone can try and explain this particular case away, I do not know. The only far-fetched bits in the podcast were the attempts by the non-believer to suggest rational explanations.

spiderlight · 18/10/2023 07:23

I watched 'Miss Howard' last night - creepy as hell. I've only just come across the Uncanny podcasts but I'm racing through them

I've put that disappearing objects book on my wishlist. Looks fascinating. I had a big shiny object disappear two years ago and it's never come back.

Graciebobcat · 18/10/2023 08:04

The Witch Farm was a bit too drawn out and overcooked for me, like the Battersea poltergeist. Much prefer the shorter investigations. I felt tremendously sorry for the people involved, and some of it was certainly very weird and disturbing. But I feel it was human issues- poor mental health, broken family relationships, teenage angst, paranoia, highly creative and imaginitive minds, alcoholism, hallucinations, delusions one way or another, being blamed for supernatural events, plus a willingness or desire to believe and convince others that was a supernatural cause, and some people wanting to exploit those experiencing the events in both cases. With a heady mix of rickety, damp, badly wired old buildings and local history, superstition and gossip.

Quite interesting hearing this more from Bill's perspective in 1995.

It takes a certain type of person to call in a psychic when you get a massive electricity bill. If the energy company were unhelpful there are plenty of other earthly people you might call on to help. An electrician, a gas safe engineer, your MP, for example. Or an estate agent to get the place off your hands asap.

A certain type of person who had dabbled with strange cults and ceremonies in his past and who had dozens of books on the occult and the paranormal, and also had a serious drink problem.

I would say that sounds like sleep paralysis except you didn't have a moment of waking for the last time, when you really did wake up. I haven't heard of that happening but all sorts of strange things can happen with sleep paralysis.

I have v similar versions of this, the getting up but still being asleep dream all the time. I put it down to anxiety

OriginalFloorboards · 26/10/2023 20:02

@disappointed101 wow thanks for that link. The staircase ones are really weird and I read some of the comments too of others finding them in odd places. Bizzare.

Louise303 · 27/10/2023 00:24

I cannot remember the name but watched a horror movie about a year ago about a staircase in the middle of the woods.

coxesorangepippin · 27/10/2023 01:54

Thanks, disappointed, really great link

Ohhhh, I’ve been putting off reading this thread as this sort of thing always makes me uneasy.
However I’ll share my only sort of spooky experience.
About 10 years ago I was doing some substitute teaching just after moving to London while looking for a full time role. I was sent to a school in SE London, and was teaching a Y2 class. One little girl went to the bathroom and came back to tell me there was a boy in the bathroom with a scary mask on. Thinking it may have been a child from another class pulling a trick the TA went to check it out but no one was there. We asked the little girl what the mask looked like/who the boy was etc. She pretty accurately described a WWII gas mask. She was only 6/7 and the TA confirmed the class hadn’t been learning about WWII. Thinking maybe she’d seen the mask elsewhere and had an active imagination we left it be and mentioned it in the staff room at lunch. Everyone wrote it off as having seen it elsewhere and having a very active imagination!

I didn’t go back to the school but when looking for local information on the blitz a couple of years later for my Y5 class, I found a picture from what was that school of the children in gas masks during a drill and with some research found out the school had been damaged in air raids. Made me think of the little girl and if she had seen a ghost that day!!

We stay in a holiday cottage in Wales every year. and strange things happen every time we stay.
The first time we stayed, I was woken at 3am by the wooden coat hangers in the small wardrobe, it sounded like someone had run their hand along them to make them rattle. I lay there and said “did you hear that?” to my DH who I knew would be alseep, he replied “yes”
My son has also stared over my shoulder and said “ hello” I asked him who he’s saying hello to, the man, was his reply.
He has also said the man tells him to go to sleep at night- he never has his bedroom light on at home, but when we stay in the cottage, he always asks for it to be left on.
I’ve had jewellery move from my bedside cabinet, to be found under the open stair area in the downstairs, a clothes airer under the stairs suddenly collapse- with no washing on it.
Ive spoken to the owners and they say quite a few guests mention there’s a feeling of a presence in the under stairs area and have said odd things have happened to them.
Our trip this year included the toaster popping up when the owners came to greet us in the cottage and were telling us of comments made by other guests- toaster was unplugged at the wall
i woke the first night to find the covers completely off my husband and him lying there asleep - he was cross in the morning and wanted to know why I was pulling the blanket off him during the night- I wasn’t
And when I having a shower on the morning we were leaving, I heard the latch on the bathroom door click and watched it slowly pushed open- DH and my son were fats asleep in bed.
I mentioned it to the owners when we left, they looked a bit sheepish and said the doors opening on their own were the odd things the other guests had mentioned.
We also say hello and goodbye to Dave and we’re booked in for next year 😂

I would absolutely love to stay there!

A few years back DP and I saw a woman with what looked like no face

We had been into town and were just about to get into the car when a small woman wearing a hood walked past us and as we looked at her she had no face

ATaleTooOuting · 27/10/2023 17:26

This had the potential for 'woo'...
Well sort of.

At my parents there was a lowish old cabinet in the hallway. As a teenager, when I came in after a night out, I'd chuck my keys & purse down there. The purse was really distinctive - I'd been to Disneyland & it had Mickey Mouse on it.

Got back v late one night, put my keys & purse on the table & went to bed.
Next morning, my purse was missing...Hmm

We searched everywhere. It wasn't in the car, I even called the pub just in case I had left it behind, nowhere to be found.
It had completely disappeared...

A few weeks later, I was reading in the kitchen when my Dad started calling me outside.
In the garden we had a small pet graveyard. Each pet buried individually. We even made gravestones.
There was a patch of disturbed soil in the graveyard but as there was no gravestone, no animal was buried in that part.

We gently dug down & found my walletShock

The only explanation was the dog, a Golden Retriever, but he'd never buried anything before, it wasn't his thing.
If you wanted a dog to wander around carrying a stick, he was the dog for you but picking up a purse & taking it outside to bury?
Not his style...

After a very thorough wash, I started to use it again.
Sometime after this, I'd been out late on a Saturday night, came in & left my keys & purse on the table.

Sunday morning, and Dad & I are reading the papers in the kitchen. Back door was open, nice sunny day.

I happened to look up & saw the dog wander past with with my purse in his mouth Smile

He obviously decided that Mickey had to be buried once more...

Back in the early 2000s, I was based in Germany with the Army. The camp was built in the 1930s and I believe was occupied and built for the German SS. It has closed down now.

Lots of stories went around about it being haunted.

One Christmas, I had to do guard duties, basically a skeleton team of us worked on the camp keeping it secure , whilst everyone else went on leave for two weeks. So the camp was pretty much empty.

Whilst I didn’t actually see anything, it was quite eerie patrolling a deserted camp at night, with the history that the place had.

About 12 years ago I was doing work as a security officer in central London. Day and night shifts. Multiple companies occupied the building.

Whilst the building was open 24/7, most staff were not there at night obviously, but some were.

Part of my duties at night was patrolling the building, checking for leaks and floods mainly.
We would have to start at the bottom and work our way up. At the bottom of the building was a basement area, there we would have the water tank room, the power rooms, the maintenance rooms etc. Similar to most other office buildings I suppose.

One day a maintenance engineer, mentioned to me that he had heard a woman crying down in the basement area. He couldn’t see anything despite having a look around. He wasn’t in the least bit woo, and wasn’t someone I would say was a liar. He was baffled by it and there wasn’t any explanation for it, there would be no way for someone to go down there without a key card and no public would access it anyway.

The building itself wasn’t that old, probably 20-30 years old back then but the last hundreds of years , many other buildings have been there previously.

From then on I always tried to get away from that basement area as fast as I could at night!

Other security officers and even some office staff members had reported a presence on the 8th floor of the building.

I absolutely love stories like this.

I’m from Liverpool & Tom Slemen has written some brilliant Haunted Liverpool books, they’re spooky even if you have never been to the city before.

I’m sure I’ve told my scary story before but I’ll tell it again.

When I was about 8/10 years old the local youth club had a fun day on (Summer) I was sitting on the grass waiting for my
turn on the trampolines.

When out of nowhere a man who looked like a throwback to the 70s/80s was sitting there, I’d say early 20s, longish hair (70/80s style) with wine coloured lenses glasses on.

He wasn’t there when I’d sat down because I wouldn’t have sat near a random man, I’d never seen him before & I was always at the youth club.

Anyway, I didn’t feel threatened at all & he smiled & said “How is your dad?” I just assumed he must’ve known him, so I said he’s fine, he then asked how my mum was & I replied she’s fine too. He then said “tell your dad to stop worrying, I’m ok, tell him I was asking about him” so I just nodded then it was my turn for the trampoline.

The trampoline was about 5 meters away. Once I climbed on it & turned around the man was gone including the little deck chair.

That afternoon I went home & told my dad about the man & what he’d said. He scratched his head thinking of who it could be. He described all of his mates & none of them matched up so he chalked it up to someone he must know & that was that.

Years later me & my mum & dad were going through the photo album & got to a picture of a man in his early 20s, I instantly knew it was that man on the youth club field so I said, That’s the feller who was speaking to me about you dad when I was at the youth club.

Him & my mums face dropped, it turned out it was my dads younger brother who had been killed tragically before I was born. He’d been run over in his early 20s. My dad couldn’t believe it & I’ll never get over the look of shock when I told him that was the man.

That’s the one story that made me believe there’s something after life.

Sorry for the long story.

That’s a good and kind of sweet story. But hadn’t you seen photos of your deceased uncle before you saw that man?

Im not disbelieving you , I just would have thought you’d atleast have sen photos of your dads brother before you recognised him in the photo album?

My DF was a miner. He told me a tale about a group of miners in his mine, who were working underground when an extra man joined their team and was working alongside them. One of them spoke to the man and he turned around to the group.
They then saw that he had no facial features at all, just a plain ghostly white smooth surface where his face should be. They fled along the mine shaft with him following behind, still carrying his pick axe.
It traumatised the miners so badly that not one of them went back to work in that pit.

Go back to page 15, someone posted a link about Arthur C Clarkes tv programme from the 1980s. It’s about ghosts !
It features a minor saying he saw a ghost and couldn’t go down the pit again?
Was this your DF?!

On a night shift in A&E a few years ago I called in a patient to a consult room. I started with my usual “hello, my name is X, I’ll be looking at your ankle…”. The Patient greeted me back and replied “nice to meet you, X, and who is this young man?”, looking behind me, but as if they were looking down at a child. I was alone.
I looked behind me and awkwardly/ nervously giggled “uhh not sure”, and moved on. They looked slightly confused at my response.

Patient was a fit and well middle aged person, no mental health conditions / not on meds etc. Nobody liked using that room !

Years ago DH’s friend inherited a big farm house, it was in a state and needed so much work doing to it which he couldn’t afford to do so he decided to sell it straight on - at the time the housing market was shit so he was struggling to sell it, therefore he used it to host little get together as for his mates. One night after such a get together DH had gone to bed and heard horses hooves outside on the gravel, he went to look out of the window and saw a bloke leading a horse up the driveway towards the (very unused and practically derelict) stables. He thought this was odd as his friend had never mentioned the stables being in use plus it was very late at night. Next morning he asked his mate who the bloke with the horse was, friend had no idea as stables definitely not in use. A few weeks later this friend messaged DH saying that a couple who came to look at the house was put off due to seeing a bloke with a horse wandering around the paddock outside from one of the bedroom windows, they had mentioned it to the estate agent who said he was sat outside facing the paddock the whole time they were in the house and nobody had been near the place.

another one … my non woo friend had a dog for 15 years, it used to breath heavily on the back of her leg whilst she was cooking dinner every night.

The dog was put to sleep eventually and for the first 3 days after dog died she felt the breath of warm air on the back of her leg everytime she was cooking dinner but obviously dog was no longer there. On the 4th day she was cooking dinner and didn’t feel it so she said out loud “Nala, are you still with me?” and with that the little bell she had by the back door that the would ring to go outside made a tiny noise. She opened the back door, never felt the dogs presence again 😢

I have a bit of a Timelapse one

so my grandad lived at the bottom of a long lane, half of it was public property but towards the end turned into a private lane with the houses belonging to the water board company that was at the very end. I used to love going there as a kid, his house was huge and the whole thing was surrounded by fields and a river etc

After he died and years later I had such fond memories of this place that one day I had lots of time on my hands and so went for a drive there just to see it all again. Everything was normal until I got to the private part of the lane and nothing was there, no water board company, no houses - just fields and a few farm type buildings which I didn’t remember from a kid. Even the road itself was gone and it was just a dirt track. I couldn’t believe it. Went home and messaged my auntie saying “did you know that full lane got demolished? There is nothing there now, not even the road!” She replied “that’s odd, it wasn’t like that last year when I went!”

Next day she messaged me saying “you sure you went to the right area?? I’m here now and it’s exactly the same as when he lived here!” I went back and she was right, it was just like it always had been. I’m still confused about it now and yes I definitely went to the right place first time around.
