Of course I'm not, it's Halloween, let's get scared.

So what is the spookiest/most unexplainable experience you had? We're talking paranormal here.

I have seen too many weird things in houses I have lived in since being a child things that other family members also saw. The only time I saw something out of my home was in euston station. I went to an event with one of my children and on the morning we returned home we got to the station way too early and it was deserted. We sat on chairs facing the entrance and a man with a dog walked past and in to one of the platforms that we could not see from where we were sitting. after about five minutes he came the same way again I never saw him come out but I thought he must have.It happened a third time he walked through again and I was looking this time so knew there was something wrong. I stood up and went to look down the platform and there was no one there. It freaked me out I could not exactly see the entrance to the station as there was kiosks blocking but he came the same way three times. At first I thought he was a rough sleeper but there was no way he could of vanished.

I was nannying for a family on holiday and the older children and parents had all gone out for the evening leaving me with the little ones. Was a big, remote house. I was lying in bed reading and wide awake with lights on (so not dreaming or anything). One of the teenagers had a friend who'd arrived on holiday with us that day having flown back the previous night from a holiday with her parents - she was tired but had gone out with them anyway.

I heard the front door clearly open, close and someone coming up the staircase - I even shouted hello cheerfully as thought it was the teenager coming back to sleep.

She didn't answer, then i realised id heard no car and they wouldn't send her back alone probably so got a bit worried of who was in the house!

I wanted to hide in my bedroom but was worried about the little ones I was looking after so went into every room upstairs checking (I was brave!). No one there. Was so relieved when the rest came home and went and told them. The other grown ups searched again but no one there.

@PinkMoscatoLover It is very strange and I know it's terrifying. Your experience sounds awful, and I really hope you never have it again. I used to sleep walk as a child and the sleep paralysis was in my late teens, so I associate it very much with a phase of life. I personally think those who experience it have something positive that troubled spirits want, but ultimately can not take. In fact, after 'battling' with you, they give up. But I have read the science around it too, which sounds convincing, so I keep an open mind.

We were on holiday and wandering around a castle ruin (a proper ruin, not the type that has staged rooms) but got lost, followed a man thinking that we might find the exit that way. He went up some stairs and into a ‘room’ with no doors and he just vanished. The only way back out was down the stairs we had followed him up.

I found the uncanny podcast , it's fab if you like a spooky story !

Some years ago we were on holiday in Romania. We’d booked an AirBnB in Transylvania. It turned out to be a charming little inn in the foothills of the Carpathians.

The first night we were there I awoke to the noise of a knocking at the window. I was strangely drawn to the sound, as if in a trance. In this mindless state I was compelled to draw back the curtains.

I was shocked. Outside was a man who looked like our old plumber - before he went home after Brexit - but floating in the air and displaying very sharp-looking teeth. He drifted away, muttering something.

Later I repeated to a local what I thought he’d said and apparently it meant, “You still owe me for the price of the more expensive taps you insisted on.”

I still shiver when I think about it.

😁🩸

Count me out!

There have been some very spooky threads here in the past. The one about the dog walker in the Savernake Forest and the Goatman thread (which was reported around the world iirc) means I won't get to sleep easily. Especially as I have to drive through the forest tomorrow!

The Savernake forest one was nicely done but very clearly made up. Other than a little too much literary flourish, she jumped the shark with the voice at the end.

StowOnTheWold · 03/10/2023 00:23

We should make some up. Just to be extra scarey - but make it clear it is fiction.

My mum died last April at about 1am, my brother and I were with her at the end.

Later that morning, about 9am, I noticed the voicemail symbol on my phone. My phone was always switched on and fully charged because I'd been expecting "that" phone call from the hospital for a couple of weeks, so I was confused that I'd missed a call. I tried to listen to it but after the usual voicemail header ("you have one new message" etc) thing there was nothing to hear, no background noise, static sounds, nothing at all. I checked the call log and it didn't show any calls other than the ones I'd made/received.

The same thing happened at about 1pm that day, and the following morning at about 8am. Each time, I was wide awake and my phone was beside me and switched on.

My brother has a weird sense of humour, so he suggested that it was our mum giving me "3 rings" to let me know she'd arrived!

It's never happened before or since.

Paul2023 · 03/10/2023 01:27

I remember the Savernake forest story . Was it really made up then? What makes you think it was theduchess ?

bemorebernard · 03/10/2023 02:01

Idk t think the savernake story was made up as I was in conversation by pm with the lady who posted it

I completely believed her as I was chatting by pm

bemorebernard · 03/10/2023 02:03

Just because you don't believe it doesn't make it untrue! The lady she was house sitting for never had a bad experience there and so,d the small holding a few years later and that's when the poster told her what she experienced

We were conversing by pm for a while

I do not believe for a second she made it up

bemorebernard · 03/10/2023 02:05

It is one of the scariest most chilling experiences I've ever heard recounted though .

I'm really interested in the paranormal and always look for,the rational explanation.

bemorebernard · 03/10/2023 02:06

People on here really like to knock others down and try and discredit them these days I find

What is the goat man thread?

bemorebernard · 03/10/2023 02:09

I won't recount my story . I've sent it to the uncanny podcast . People here aren't nice to people who have a story to tell as evidenced by the scepticism on the lady who posted the savernake story ! I totally believed her after several chats via pm .

Tambatamba · 03/10/2023 02:17

When I was about 19, I had a summer job, working in a restaurant which was a very old building that was built in 1577. It was where Charles II hid out for a time, apparently.

Whilst I was there, lots of strange and unexplainable things happened. There was a very small bar upstairs, which I used to restock daily with mixer bottles. I would carry the mixers up in a crate. One day, whilst lining the bottles up, I knocked one of them over. What followed, was a series of sounds like glass bottles rolling under the bar, one by one and smashing each time. Finally, a wine glass appeared out of nowhere and smashed into the crate. I looked underneath the bar, expecting to have a lot of cleaning up to do.....nothing there!

Another time, I was walking through the kitchen, holding a stack of plates when my necklace came off and flew to the end of the kitchen. I picked it up to see that it was still done up 🤨

Things like this would happen all the time. But when I went back to work there in the Christmas holidays, nothing did.

StowOnTheWold · 03/10/2023 03:17

Where is this place please @Tambatamba ?

LemonPeonies · 03/10/2023 06:23

Vebrithien · 03/10/2023 06:41

This was something I've posted before, on the original thread that became the Goat Man. It was initially in regards to how some places just feel "off"

"Regarding PP and Sussex, I grew up there, and spend many years being taken dragged on walks. My DDad used to repair churches, so at least once in every school holiday, I used to have to go with him to work. Church, graveyard, for the day.

The top of the Downs, I've always felt very safe with, there is a purity of feeling there.

Devil's Dike feels strange. It's probably the way it muffles and distorts the wind. I always felt very disoriented there, like I've been spun around and I can't tell which was is front.

The legend says that the Devil Himself was trying to dig from the Weald through the Downs to the sea, to flood the Weald. He could only dig for a single night. Someone in a Weald village heard Him, and in the early hours of the morning, got up and lit a candle. The Devil, seeing the candle flame in the cottage window, mistakes it for the dawn, and flees away.

Chanctonbury and Cissbury Rings make me feel very nervous, there is something primitive there, watching you.

We had a very strange one once, near Stenying. Wooded road, driving along. About to turn right, into a different road. At the road junction ahead, we saw what looked like a person standing on the left. It was like a 2D cutout of black shadow. Thin and tall, with clear long legs and arms, but in proportion. We indicated to go right, and the thing crossed the road, with one leg reaching to the other side, elongating, then the body and other leg followed over. As we left the original road, we then couldn't see it on the right side of the original road, or on the left of our new road. It was sodding creepy, the way it moved, and that there was no detail to is, just a black cut out. We did wonder if it was trying to get onto the car, as when it crossed, we would have been driving right over it, if we hadn't left that road. Crossroads were often chosen as placed to bury those outside societal norms.

We also had (differently) odd one, with my DDad at work. He was in the crawl space underneath some box pews (Downs church, box pews directly over the chalk bedrock). Could see something over in one corner of the space. Crawls up to it, to find a human skull. DDad said he never crawled backwards as quickly, before or after! Police were involved, there was no recorded burials or interments in that part of the church. The skull and disarticulated bones found were very old. However, there was the story from the 1700's, that the priest had been rather too friendly with the local Lord's daughter, and had disappeared one day. I think it is unlikely he was out under the pew (the smell of decomposition in the church?) But did wonder if the bones had been dumped back there, afterwards."

Vebrithien · 03/10/2023 06:43

@Tambatamba the Goat Man thread was (I think) called "What did we see last night?", and involved a narrow lane, a gate, and a very strange creature.

After my cat got run over he came back to visit. I could hear purring and felt him weaving between my legs but nothing there. Happened a couple of times after he died.

Phantom cat is definitely a thing. Woo or not, it's lovely. Mine are alive, but I work away a lot and I frequently "feel" them jump on the bed. Obviously they aren't there, but it's still nice.

In the middle of the night, still asleep, I had the distinct sense of being watched. I opened my eyes and saw an unusually tall, silhouetted figure of a man in the doorway. He was entirely in shadow, except for yellow eyes, and he had a coldly evil air about him. I told myself it was just a dream and he disappeared. A few nights later I had a terrible nightmare. I realised I was dreaming at some point and tried to wake up, but there was something pushing down on my chest. With a huge effort I forced myself awake and sat up to see my bedroom door was open, when I always closed it, as it was a shared house. The rational explanation is probably too much cheese and sleep paralysis, but the sense of a real, malevolent being holding me down was very vivid. I moved house not long after, and never had an experience like that again.

This is definitely sleep paralysis. It's horrendous.
