Of course I'm not, it's Halloween, let's get scared.

So what is the spookiest/most unexplainable experience you had? We're talking paranormal here.

@Seychal it's a big area but i think i have an idea where you mean.

It can be a funny place here (see goat man thread) 🙃

Miss93 Then I saw something crawling up the stairs and opening my door.

😳

When we were kids, mum was brushing her hair in bedroom mirror early in the morning. In the mirror, She saw a female walk passed in a dressing gown so presumed one of us had got up to go to loo. When she checked, we were all still in bed. She's convinced it was her late mother. I had to sleep with the light on for nights after that!!

I just skimmed the Goatman thread and the village we lived in is immediately due south. Yes very weird!

Did you ever see the Goatman or see anything else weird in that area? Some of the older people in the village used to talk about a string of lights swirling in some fields in the early hours.

I have a ghost black cat. Never owned a black cat but it appeared after we got the Bengal and now I have a b&w longhair it’s still here.

Got up in the night recently and saw my cat leave the bedroom for the office thinking she’s such a little toad to get up and leave me in the night and when I got back into bed she was still on it.

I've had a few weird experiences most of which i've told here on various threads, but i like to tell my friend's one best. We'll call her K. She told me this when we were in our late teens. We're in our late 40s now. She maintains it's true and i believe her. She's the sort of person you'd trust with your life!

The hunched thing in the kitchen.
So as youngsters K and her younger brother (S) shared a bedroom. They were freaked out almost nightly by the sound of something coming up the stairs in the dark looong after their parents had gone to bed. The heavy dragging steps would always come to a halt at the top of the stairs and then start again and make their way along the landing and stop again right outside their bedroom door! Sometimes K and S slept through the night, but they were both very often awake together and scared, hearing this thing.

Sometimes it'd go away again, sometimes they'd end up lying there for ages and ages waiting to hear it go away. Often times one of them (mostly S) would need the loo but be way too scared to go and would have to hold it in till it started to get light.

They did tell their parents about this, but were told not to be daft ect.

This one night they'd heard the noises and S needed a wee very badly and really really couldn't hold it. They'd heard the footsteps leaving and he asked his sister if she would check the landing. She was scared, but she did.

She peeped out, and then went out quietly into the dark of the landing. Nothing there. Something made her decide to have a look down the stairs. She leaned over the banisters and could see into the kitchen. The moon light was lighting it up. Down there she could see a pitch black shape. As big as a human but weirdly hunched over thing - it's back was all wrong. She could see it was standing with something in it's hands. She wasn't sure what it was but thought it was raw veg from the wheeley wire basket which was right there. As she watched it bit down violently on whatever it was holding (a cabbage or turnip?) and then slooooowly turned it's head to look up at her !!!!

She said she ran and leapt back into bed and told S no, don't go to the loo yet!

They left the house and moved a couple of months after that and that was the end of it all thank god. What the hell it was eating the raw veg we'll never know.

I suffered with awful sleep paralysis.
The last one I had was really bad.
Got the kids to school, went back to bed.
Got woken up by loud talking downstairs.
It was my dp and kids.
2 things.
They were in work/ school
And I'm deaf without my hearing aids.
Then I saw something crawling up the stairs and opening my door.

I was scared shitless so I did what I always do.
Wiggle my little toe and slowly wake up.
That one really upsete as I was in the house on my own.

God that sounds horrible. I think "waking " and it's daylight and it still happens would really frighten me.

I often have that dream that I've woken up and suddenly realise I'm still asleep thing.

Jesus Christ that's like a horror film Confused

Although good to get ones 5 a day even in the afterlife I guess

Laiste · 05/10/2023 12:00

@Seychal oh i've twice seen weird lights.

Once i was alone at the time. 2am ish, in the car. I saw an orange arrangement of lights in a sort of sausage shape, hovering low over the road between my village and the one before it. I didn't stop.

Second time was nearer 3am. I was alone in the car again, and was going along watching these lights, and came to another car which was in front of me stopped in the middle of the lane. A bloke had got out and was watching as well. So i know i wasn't dreaming that one!

This second one was 4 triangles of orange light just hovering. Then one shot off away and up at lighting speed. The rest stayed but moved about in formation for a while, then shot away too.

Well absolutely 😂

Lemonyyy · 05/10/2023 12:48

My grandparents old bungalow was haunted. We all used to hear footsteps running down the corridor where the bedrooms were, into their bedroom and then their ensuite, which was a dead end. Also heard people running around the same path along the back of the house, especially at night, but the security lights wouldn't go on which was super creepy!

On a lighter note, as a child I used to notice a weird smell in the bathroom sometimes and thought this was ghostly, but as an adult have realised that was in fact my uncle going in there for a cheeky smoke 😂

The lights the elders in my old village saw where described as snaking. One said like a Chinese dragon, but just lights.

The road runs between village 'PM' to village 'B'. We lived in B.

I posted this before under a different username - update it to say this happened about 20 years ago:

This will be outing so I'd better name change soon! But I experienced a time slip in London about 15 years ago.

I was sent on an errand to another office so left work on a bright clear day. I worked in the Cheapside area of the city - where a Christmas Carol was set. I walked up Cheapside/ Poultry in the direction of Bank of England. To my left was a street that was either Old Jewry or the street adjacent to it. So I take a short cut up that street. Nice day, escaped from the office, stills fairly new to London and loved it - all was good. Walked up the street, all fairly bland offices, modern and tall. I was the only person on the street. Suddenly out of nowhere I felt the most indescribable terror come out of nowhere - I almost expected to hear someone shout 'run'' It felt like something or someone was coming for me. I glanced at the offices but suddenly they were different - they were lower than ground level so that the pavement bisected the windows, and the buildings were now old - they looked like old fashioned sweet shows with those windows with the small square panes and occasional round bit jutting out. All around me I could hear noise - hustle and bustle, hooves on cobbles, barrels rolling, voices talking and shouting out to each other. The sky was dark and the air thick with a brownish mist (smog?) My head was hurting and I just lost it and ran towards the end of the street like my life depended on it.

And then everything was normal. Sky was normal and blue and clear, buildings were as they should be, no noise out of the ordinary. My headache went instantly, my feeling of terror went instantly - I felt completely ok. Freaked out by what just happened but completely my normal self.

The funniest thing was there was a chap smoking across from me and as I stood there baffled he jumped a mile and said 'where the hell did you come from?!' When I told him he said he'd literally just walked out of there and there had been no one there - so now as well as my own time slip I wonder if I feature in some bloke's story about the girl who appeared out of thin air!

and I followed the post with

it took me about a year to pluck up the courage to go back and when I did, really hyped up, it was all so ordinary. I checked every street in case I'd got confused about the street I'd originally walked through but nothing even close to what I'd experienced (it felt more Victorian than medieval).

The odd thing is that I am not woo but seem like I should be. I loooove stories about the paranormal and ghosts, I'm a creative type (artist, writer, actor) with a huge imagination and everyone always assumes I live in a fantasy land, but I'm actually seriously scientific and logical. I so want to believe, I really really do, but without hard proof I just can't.

Except for the time slip. No matter what I think of I just can't explain it. Wasn't a film set or actors - I didn't see any people (except shop - see below) and it definitely wasn't a set. Why would a prop house be built halfway below a modern pavement? Inside I could see an old man in Victorian attire, spectacles- he had a kindly manner and was moving back and forth like he was getting things from shelves. He had white hair a male pattern baldness, a soft round face and wide nose. He looked kind. He was passing things to a small lad in brown cap and trousers, white top brown jacket and like a dark ribbon tied around his neck, like a tie but not quite. He was slight and had dark hair. I can still see them but they weren't solid - not as if I were to see a real person. But they weren't see-through either. It was like they were indistinct and vague - like seeing someone through mist.

Sorry, off track there! But if it was a hallucination what caused it? I was in fine health, not stress. And what about the guy who saw me come out? Why didn't he see me when he walked through? He should have.

If someone else told me this story I'll be honest, I wouldn't believe them. Because I am known to have a vivid imagination I don't tell anyone any more as I get a few eye rolls (my mum believes me though!) But with woo stuff normally I'm trying to find evidence that it was supernatural, and failing. This time I'm trying to find a logical explanation and failing!

TheMurderousGoose · 05/10/2023 13:55

Oh, @HeechulOppa, I just love that. I find time slip stories so fascinating! My favourite genre of 'woo' Grin I feel like I'd like to experience one but I know I'd be too busy panicking that I'd be stuck there and therefore not enjoy any of it.

As teenagers we used to go on all day bike rides during the school holidays.

One summer around 1980 we were riding round some old villages in Northamptonshire and saw this long tree-lined track. We headed off down there and came to this enormous house, partially tumble down, but windows open and you could hear people talking and the occasional shout.

We parked our bikes and tried to look through the gaps between the gate hinges and the stone wall. It looked and sounded like a film was taking place for a filmset. Curious we walked around the place, but it was surrounded by a tall stone wall. At the back was a tall bank covered in bushes with some farm equipment stored next to it so we were able to climb up these and look in. What we saw was truly weird, frightening and bizarre.

The courtyard was marked out like a giant chessboard. People were dotted around this arena being moved about like chess pieces by others who were obviously the players. The 'pieces' were wearing simple clothes, mostly worn or dirty. The players were wearing nice clothes, modern and crisp. None of the 'pieces' looked like they wanted to be there. They were tied up with hands behind their backs, standing in marked out spots. One man was tied up in a kneeling position. Some were crying, shaking and all were very unhappy. One had a very clear nose bleed. One of the players started hitting one of the male 'pieces' with a thick cane. The players were mostly sitting down on deck chairs or sun loungers on one edge of the arena, but one of the 'pieces' had been taken over there and was kneeling down as the players all rested their feet on her.

We felt really uncomfortable and ran back to our bikes. We were about halfway up the long track when we heard a vehicle approaching at speed. We shot down a bank with our bikes and hid among the kek and foliage. A navy blue minibus drove past towards the public road and the next village. We felt we needed to stay there hidden. After about 10 minutes the minibus came back slowly, braking every so often for the driver and passenger to look around. It was obvious now we had been spotted somehow and they were trying to track us down. Eventually we left and headed off home sticking to main roads all the way peddling as hard as we could.

Years later I read about a religious cult in that area that has since been disbanded. There were rumours of bad treatment of members and I always wondered if we had stumbled across the same or similar organisation.

Hmm I you sure you haven't been watching the TV show Hunters? There's a scene exactly like this in the show(set in a concentration camp so a lot more brutal).

Seychal · 05/10/2023 15:36

Nope. Never heard of it.

Fascinated by time slip tales and by sleep paralysis.
Do you think it’s possible to experience sleep paralysis only once?

A few years ago we were house-sitting at a relative’s lovely detached 16th century cottage. Asleep in bed, I was lying on my side facing DH’s back, with my back facing the window. I woke up because it felt as if two strong vice-like arms were around me, from the window side, squeezing so tightly I couldn’t breathe. Total panic. I couldn’t turn over to see if anything was there, so I tried to just concentrate on breathing again. After a couple of minutes the tightness went. DH was unaware and still snoring! I have never experienced anything like that before and fingers crossed, not since. Was it sleep paralysis? So scary.

Same week, same cottage, a couple of days later I went up to bed before DH. I left the bedroom door ajar because it had a metal thumb latch that I knew would click and wake me when he eventually came up.
Fell asleep, only to be woken by DH tapping on the door and calling me from the landing. Got up, saw the door was closed and opened it to let him in. He swore he’d been trying to get in for ages but the latch wouldn’t work and he was shut out.
It had opened easily for me but I can’t explain how the door had already closed itself and why, on shutting - making that metallic clunking sound - it hadn’t woken me, which was what I’d been trying to avoid.
We checked the latch in the morning, there was no extra locking mechanism on it that could have engaged inside the bedroom to lock him out, it didn’t stick and worked normally the rest of the week. Bit of a mystery.

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 05/10/2023 17:04

I remember the quasimodo turnip chomper...it's so creepy because it would be such an odd thing to make up so seems scarier than most.

The tortured chess victims sounds really traumatising like some rich person's playground/squid games thing. Really, really disturbing - do you have any details about the cult? I need closure @Seychal !

I used to cycle a lot as a kid too - I had a favourite hill that went over a railway line. I'd power up then coast down as fast as possible. One time, just as I was cresting the top a man ran out at the bottom and spread his arms wide as if to catch me. He was grinning and looked like Marv from home alone. I turned the bike sideways and shredded my knee scuffing to a stop and ran back the way I'd come with my bike while he chased. Not paranormal (probably!) but terrifying.

Off to listen to this week's new Uncanny...blue man last week didn't really do it for me but still the best thing on radio.

I'm also interested in the time slips. I'm envious of anyone who's experienced this, though it must have been equally unsettling experience at the time.

There doesn't seem to be any rational explanation for them, especially where more than one person has experienced it.

StowOnTheWold · 05/10/2023 18:18

How is it different in Scotland though? Does it matter where the assets are or is Scots Law applied to the person who is resident there? Just curious.
