Just noseying on Rightmove - how did any of this get past building regs? I thought the lack of handrail on the stairs was bad enough until I saw the landing!

At least we know why it's up for sale now.

ohdamnitjanet · 01/10/2023 22:39

Well now I know what happened to 1985

JeremyJordanseyebrows · 01/10/2023 22:39

I assume it's for sale as the owners are, in fact, maimed or dead!

It'd be like walking over one of those glass floors just to go for a wee 🙈

thefirstmrsrochester · 01/10/2023 22:05

I’d have to crawl up the stairs and across the landing on my hands and knees.

Quite terrifying.

I was going to post exactly the same as you 😀

Motorina · 01/10/2023 22:41

It does! One where the residents' relatives hate granny, and can't wait to inherit?

(Edit: this was in response to the 'looks like a nursing home' comment, but apparently that vanished on posting...)

SuperCam · 01/10/2023 22:42

That living room takes “open plan” to a whole new level. The mid-room columns suggest someone started taking down a load bearing wall and then realised they might have a problem …

Longdarkcloud · 01/10/2023 22:42

@Oioicaptain is that the place that was in the Discover of Witches tv series?

In the hallway under the stairs there’s a table with family pics on in and there’s at least one of a child. Maybe the sellers are rich mountaineers?

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 01/10/2023 22:44

Bloody hell.
There is no way on earth you would get me to use those stairs.
It does seem to be the house that taste forgot, and the building regs inspector never got to see!

HeatherMoores · 01/10/2023 22:44

1950s hotel carpet at its finest.

WeAreBorg · 01/10/2023 22:44

Saschka · 01/10/2023 22:13

This picture in particular - it is like a house of mirrors. I can’t even tell if the catwalk is flat or tilting.

Yes! Is that arch window thing in a dip? Is the arch at the back a weird illusion and is in fact 2ft tall?? Is the carpeted catwalk area a slide with a massive deathly drop on each side? My eyes have broken.

RunningUpThatBuilding · 01/10/2023 22:44

It has a Seussville vibe to it.

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2023 22:44

Beastieboys · 01/10/2023 22:23

It's the toilet and bidet in front of a clear glass window AND with a massive bath separating them that has me agog, surely with the sheer size of the rooms they could have been discreetly placed for some privacy!!

The tiled step in the bathroom is more what I noticed! Another deathtrap feature to kill yourself on.

MMBaranova · 01/10/2023 22:45

This is the Metaverse and nobody else has signed up for it.

Millybob · 01/10/2023 22:45

God, that's hideous -how could anyone do that to a lovely house? The carpet makes my head spin. Imagine tackling those stairs after a couple of glasses of wine.
But perhaps it's on the market because the previous owner broke their neck?

Motorina · 01/10/2023 22:47

Noone has mentioned the vast draping curtains, which must have been custom made, which have all been hemmed about two feet too long!

I mean, I know they're small beer compared to the Greek temple effect lounge, the carpet that taste forgot, and the plunge of death landing, but still...

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2023 22:49

You could have a awesome christmas tree in the hallway.

Millybob · 01/10/2023 22:50

I wonder if estate agents ever read these comments?
Let's hope Ian Macklin of Hale has a poker face when he's showing viewers around!

Channellingsophistication · 01/10/2023 22:50

Omg the landing… makes me feel funny just looking at it. Surely you cant sell it like that… ?

UncleHerbie · 01/10/2023 22:50

Footballers’ Wives circa 1989! Yeuuuuuuch 🤢 Stairs worry me at the best of times: I’d rather piss in my handbag than go upstairs to the loo

WittynotPretty · 01/10/2023 22:53

It’s a relatively cheap plot for Bowdon. It’s not about the house the value’s in the land. A developer will either demolish it or substantially reconfigure that house and double their investment, minimum.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/10/2023 22:54

MrsR87 · 01/10/2023 21:57

That’s giving me a headache! I almost looks like an optical illusion.

That’s what I thought too!

The stair thing is mad, but the decor is just hideous too

Brokendaughter · 01/10/2023 22:54

I feel like whoever designed that had some unresolved issues about right angles & a deep seated hatred of stair rails or bannisters.

The décor is also hideous, but I don't think updating it would help all that much when it's all angles with the odd curve thrown in & that mishmash of styles.

WiddlinDiddlin · 01/10/2023 22:55

Saschka · 01/10/2023 22:13

This picture in particular - it is like a house of mirrors. I can’t even tell if the catwalk is flat or tilting.

Its one of the computer generated sets from Knightmare! You just want a kid in an over sized viking helmet being guided around by three inept friends!

Screams 'sourced my carpets from my hotel chain suppliers'... and 'I'd really like an engine shed but I am not allowed one'... absolutely horrific and I would probably pay that much NOT to live that close to Altrincham!

PickAChew · 01/10/2023 22:55

I'd trip over the pattern on that carpet and plunge to my death.

Our surveyor had conniptions about the original art deco banisters that someone could poke their head through. They're a bugger to dust but aren't going anywhere.
