Just noseying on Rightmove - how did any of this get past building regs? I thought the lack of handrail on the stairs was bad enough until I saw the landing!

Jesus wept! There are VERY specific building regulations around ballustrading on stairs and landings. There is no way in hell these abominations meet any part of them. And that carpet! My poor eyes 😨

Oioicaptain · 01/10/2023 22:25

It absolutely wouldn't have been approved. However, there is a slight possibility that the building inspector inspected and agreed to sign off the majority of the structural work on the proviso that the staircase/landing was finished in accordance with the plans and then trusted them so didn't revisit. Or more likely they amended it when they moved in. Whilst the decor is pretty migraine inducing and not to my taste, it looks foreign to me and might have been all the rage in wherever the occupants originated from. The house name is also foreign.

Myneighboursarewankers · 01/10/2023 22:27

Very odd setup. I think who ever decorated it must have been on acid at the time, or from the early 1800’s.. or both

Tarquina · 01/10/2023 22:27

Who would take a job as a cleaner, hoovering those stairs and landings?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/10/2023 22:06

Bet it's a Probate sale.

And the previous owner had a little 'accident'.

My dh just said pretty much the same.

Lorieandrews · 01/10/2023 22:27

Holy shitballs!!

Blarn · 01/10/2023 22:28

It looks like someone made a lot of money in the very early 90s and stuck with that aesthetic!

MichaelAndEagle · 01/10/2023 22:29

I'd have to crawl across the landing on my hands and knees.

That’s giving me a headache! I almost looks like an optical illusion.

I actually wondered that...is there perspex or something that can't be seen in the pic?

Helpuschoose · 01/10/2023 22:30

Apart from the fact the stairs and landing are a death trap, the breakfast bar in the kitchen is only about 2 feet high. And if you look at the ceilings, every room is a really odd irregular shape.

EatYourVegetables · 01/10/2023 22:30

“the interior has reached the stage where cosmetic improvements are required and therefore presents an ideal opportunity to remodel to individual taste”

Whoever wrote the above description deserves a medal for dry humour.

What really got me was that pillar in the middle of a room… “LOOK WE ARE CLASSY WE LIKE GREEK THINGS HERE’S A PILLAR”.

whatausername · 01/10/2023 22:30

Thank goodness for that white edging as with the matching busy carpet on the landing and in the hall it would be rather easy to "misstep" 😂 if my DP bought a house and decorated that way I'd be terrified they were trying to kill me

GirlOfTudor · 01/10/2023 22:30

Oh hell no. My legs are jelly at the thought of me clinging to the wall and edging down the hall/stairs 🤢🤢

80sMum · 01/10/2023 22:30

What an utterly weird house! Totally bizarre. How could anyone actually live in it?

JudgeRudy · 01/10/2023 22:30

CirceIsMyHomegirl · 01/10/2023 21:53

All of the carpets in that house should be illegal.

Yes. Class A illegal. Imagine waking up to that after a glass of wine. Trippy....literally....right down the stairs

Oioicaptain · 01/10/2023 22:31

Am chuckling slightly at Ca'd'oro, named after the palace on Venice's Grand Canal. It explains the columns and grandeur!

swanteapot · 01/10/2023 22:31

it's like an optical illusion

Scirocco · 01/10/2023 22:33

It's got a 'Care Home for Rich Relatives You Secretly Hope Die Soon' vibe to it.

Lemevoir · 01/10/2023 22:33

"An individually designed detached house commission by the current owners in conjunction with renowned local architect George Tsiantar."

Individually designed... no kidding 😂

CyclingLegs · 01/10/2023 22:33

The NHS should use that set of photos as a test for whether people's health problems are stress-related. It worked a treat on me. #shudder

Longdarkcloud · 01/10/2023 22:34

Really scarey. But if I could afford it and have it redecorated I’d love the space.
Plenty of space to have one of those new lifts installed. However handrails along the landing/catwalk would look truly weird. Nice stained window but that would need to be “fenced” off so nobody plunged through it.
Just think what a glorious place to share with a dozen cats — plenty of room for exercise and bathrooms for litter trays and windows to sit in to sun.

Iknownothing · 01/10/2023 22:35

If you don’t like someone invite them to stay in bedroom 4 so they have to negotiate that landing at night to get to the loo

Bingoballs · 01/10/2023 22:35

The whole place needs a massive makeover and I bloody bannister 🤮 gives me jelly legs

CatCrone · 01/10/2023 22:37

Utility room looks ok…….

Chonkadoodle · 01/10/2023 22:38

Looks like an old swingers club
