Baby boy died in 'filthy' home with 'traces of cocaine in his system'

What the hell is wrong with these people. How the fuck can they subject an innocent baby to such a horrific life?! These children should be removed at birth because they don’t stand a chance. It is so utterly depressing.

Little Grant John Storey-Delaney died while in his baby bouncer at his Rochdale home. He was found 'turning grey' by his mother Sophie Riley with a blanket over his face

That poor little boy was doomed from day one and it makes me so upset.

Once again, lack of communication and action by the professionals that should have been protecting this poor baby. I suppose "lessons will be learnt". Again.

Yep. Traces of drugs (cocaine and cannabis) were found in his system - a four month old baby. It is just beyond awful.

I understand the distress at reading the story, but I don't feel angry just very sad.

Our society needs much greater investment in all the services that prevent these terrible tragedies.

Angry judgement won't help anyone.

Greensleeves · 21/09/2023 21:37

It's horrific, but what do you mean by "sub-class"? Do you think there is something fundamentally different about people who end up in horrendous living situations, addiction, poverty, abuse cycles etc? I can see why it is tempting to buy into the idea that those people are congenitally flawed, not like the rest of us etc - the Victorians certainly thought so - but it's not a very constructive approach to what are essentially systemic social problems borne out of plain old poverty, deprivation, inequality of opportunity and lack of compassionate social infrastructure.

Dolores87 · 21/09/2023 21:38

This is a horrendous story and very sad but it doesn't mean there is a "sub-class" of people and I am not sure who you are lumping into this "sub class" based on this story.

This is a story of social failure on so many levels.

Dacadactyl · 21/09/2023 21:40

There absolutely is a sub class of people in society. They are a disgrace and are propped up by the benefits system (if this couple were working, I'd eat my hat)

I don't know what the answer is, but the status quo isnt working.

And how the little one was only classed as a CIN and not on a CP plan is beyond me. His "mother" had had previous children removed!

Once again, shitty scumbag parents?

Mum2jenny · 21/09/2023 21:44

You are not allowed to use ‘subclass’ as an option nowadays although I think we all understand this classification

Absolutely, it's not their parents fault, it's other people's of course, the parents didn't know this was wrong, of course its not their fault.

Or...... And hear me out..... The parents were vile, scuzzy, disgusting excuses for human beings?

Shit like this isn't just the responsibility of authorities - people like this shouldn't be allowed to procreate. SS or not - the responsibility lies with the 'parents'

Elvis1956 · 21/09/2023 21:44

Definitely a sub class...I grew up in a docks village, full of working class people...who had pride and a sense of community.
My cousin summed it up "I grew up in one of the worst council estates in Britain, my mum was a single mother, I went to a school so bad, they demolished it and erased the records, but I hate people who don't have class "
These people don't respect themselves, how do we expect them to respect themselves...I tell you why, because you have to not make excuses. You need to grab life by the balls and battle, fight kick and gouge. Unfortunately the people who commit such crimes are weak, blaming others for their misfortunes never admitting responsibility. Not owning that they are responsible for their own lives

bombastix · 21/09/2023 21:46

Honestly this rarely comes from nowhere; look back to the previous generation that raised these parents. There will be violence and addiction in more than one generation.

hattie43 · 21/09/2023 21:46

A police chief constable called this underclass of people ferrals and they have no social norms or responsibilities whatsoever . They are nothing but a drain on the limited resources the country has . A result of the welfare state taking away the responsibility anyone has for taking care and providing for themselves .
This heinous crimes of infanticide will never go away whilst these people exist and I wish people would stop blaming social workers etc there is no one responsible except the parents .

LizzieSiddal · 21/09/2023 21:47

It’s horrific reading. I too don’t understand how that baby was left with his mother in those circumstances. I do know that councils have had budgets decimated by the government so there will be a lot less support than there should be, but that doesn’t excuse the behaviour of the parents.

MyHornCanPierceTheSky · 21/09/2023 21:48

@Dacadactyl but of course all the bleeding hearts will say 'just because she neglected and fucked up the lives of previous children how mean of you not to give her another chance'...
Of course kids are just pawns to make adults feel fulfilled.

icallitasplodge · 21/09/2023 21:48

I think class is the wrong word. The lady in the manhunt whose baby died in a tent due to her and her partners negligence, was of the upper class.

it’s not class that does this.

Do I think there is something “fundamentally different” about a parent who allows a four month old baby to end up with class A drugs in their system? Yes, I do. How could anyone with any sort of conscience subject such a tiny, vulnerable baby to such a horrific life.

Oh fuck off with the welfare state bullshit.

Tory governments demolishing education and societal protections. Vote Tory: get more and more of this shit, whilst paying more for everything.

Can you expand on why this is an example of "social failure"? Not just scumbag parents who shouldn't be allowed to breed?

I read about that case. They were a sub-class too. Absolutely abhorrent.

Edited to add that anyone who abuses or murders a child is a sub-class of human in my eyes. Surely we can all agree on that?!

Putting that terrible story aside for a moment.. yes there is a sub class in this country. It's not the working class....it's known as the underclass. It absolutely exists.
