Tesco driver said I wasn't disabled

I had a delivery from tesco today. The drivers always bring it up to my fiat on the third floor. I ordered via whoosh today.

The driver text me "I'm here. Come down."

I said "could you please bring it up, I'm unable to come down due to my disability."

He said, "come down."

Then he phoned me and said he'd leave my delivery on the street if I didn't come down.

I phoned my neighbour and she went out for me. He said to her "she's not disabled she's walked down the stairs before."

I'm so upset (maybe I'm being an idiot) but, I have MS and sometimes I'm okay, sometimes I'm not (I'm not today) 😔

Aibu to be annoyed at this?

Go ballistic about the ableist prick to Customer Services.

HelloItsMeAgainHello · 18/09/2023 21:33

Is there anyway you can report the driver to the company. That is out of line for them to say

weirdoboelady · 18/09/2023 21:33

YANBU. How fucking dare he. I would report him to his employers, and if they don't respond appropriately I would report THEM for disability discrimination.

MrsMous · 18/09/2023 21:33

Wow. U must report this !

Boredonafridaynight · 18/09/2023 21:33

Report him, how dare he

Sara450 · 18/09/2023 21:34

I've messaged tesco on fb and they said they'd get back to me within the hour. This was 4 hours ago. :(

Definitely customer service and social media if they don’t deliver and apologise.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 18/09/2023 21:34

Definitely report! People only stop getting away with things when challenged. Disgusting human.

nursei · 18/09/2023 21:35

Absolute tosser! Lodge a formal complaint detailing exactly what happened.

Their best customer service team are on Twitter.

MidnightOnceMore · 18/09/2023 21:35

I'm really sorry this happened to you.

chania8 · 18/09/2023 21:35

ID be fuming. I have reactive arthritis. Some days I'm blinding round the gym, others I can't walk up the stairs. He has no right to judge your disability and you cans and can't dos based on the fact he's seen you walk downstairs! 100% report him!

Bounding not blinding 😂

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 18/09/2023 21:37

You are definitely not being unreasonable. What an arsehole. Some people are just incapable of grasping the huge range of disability. They seem to think that you're either completely paralyzed or able to run a marathon, there is no middle ground. Please complain, he needs to be put right.

TomatoSandwiches · 18/09/2023 21:37

So has he left your shopping downstairs op?!

Follow this up on twitter/x (more people see it there), making it clear that their failure to respond to your FB post (as well as the original actions of their driver) indicates that they are NOT making reasonable disability adjustments, as they are required to do legally. Log it all and complain to the EHRC if you don't get satisfaction.

pointythings · 18/09/2023 21:37

Don't let this go. Hit the Twitter, get it out on social media - this idiot needs major retraining at the very least (and should probably be fired).

Vallmo47 · 18/09/2023 21:38

Omg!!!! Give them hell Op.

comedownwithme · 18/09/2023 21:39

It's Uber that deliver whoosh isn't it?

So while I would complain to Tesco themselves I would also be contacting Uber (or whoever provided the drivers)

Sara450 · 18/09/2023 21:41

Yes, I have tried to contact Uber as well, but they're impossible to deal with.

UneFoisAuChalet · 18/09/2023 21:42

Talk about over familiarity! He seems to think he ‘knows’ you and that you’re not disabled because you went down one time awhile ago. How does he know it's not another member of your household?

Go ballistic on Twitter. You may have a hidden disability or simply choose that you don’t want to go down and collect your shopping for whatever fucking reasons - maybe you’ve got a newborn you don’t want to leave, a sick parent etc…His job is to follow instructions, not make idle judgments.

Sara450 · 18/09/2023 21:44

Thanks, everyone. This guy made me feel horrible and like I'd done something wrong. I know that's silly, because if it was someone else in this situation I wouldn't feel like that.

TorqueWrench · 18/09/2023 21:45

I don't know about whoosh but historically it was at Tesco's discretion whether they would deliver the shopping upstairs. They reserved the right to deliver to the main entrance.

I may be out of date, however.

gogomoto · 18/09/2023 21:47

Whoosh is contracted out I believe, do they offer delivery upstairs? They don't operate here at all.

MadeForThis · 18/09/2023 21:48

That is shocking behaviour. Angry on your behalf!
