Tesco driver said I wasn't disabled

I had a delivery from tesco today. The drivers always bring it up to my fiat on the third floor. I ordered via whoosh today.

The driver text me "I'm here. Come down."

I said "could you please bring it up, I'm unable to come down due to my disability."

He said, "come down."

Then he phoned me and said he'd leave my delivery on the street if I didn't come down.

I phoned my neighbour and she went out for me. He said to her "she's not disabled she's walked down the stairs before."

I'm so upset (maybe I'm being an idiot) but, I have MS and sometimes I'm okay, sometimes I'm not (I'm not today) 😔

Aibu to be annoyed at this?

I don't think Whoosh driver's aren't employed by Tesco. They are similar to takeaway delivery drivers they use their own vehicle.

all drivers should be forced to take inclusivity training and testing as part of the licence process.

No thanks. I don't want my ability to drive a truck governed by whether or not I agree a woman can have a 🍆.

You don't have to agree, what part of delivering something involves you having an indepth conversation about what's in their pants? You just have to be courteous and respectful, hand over the delivery and leave.

@Sara450 please dont apologise,I also have a variable condition and I've had to make a complaint to tesco recently after they refused to open up a till as they want everyone to use their new trolley self-service check outs - the staff were totally oblivious to the fact that not everyone will find that easy & were utterly rude when i was explaining that i was struggling. Its horrible having to make a complaint as so many staff are really kind and helpful but its important to try and highlight that disabilities aren't always obvious or ,as you have shown, consistent in what you can do.

Yes delivery drivers are on minimum wage but carrying crates of shopping is part of the job, tesco states that they will try to deliver to the front door of the flat (for all customers) unless the driver believes it is impractical or unsafe. It is part of the job.

I have things that my hidden disability makes very difficult in my minimum wage job, but I chose to take on that job. I might struggle more with it than my colleagues but if I find I can no longer perform certain duties expected of me, then I know I will lose my job. Being on minimum wage doesn't excuse being ablist, or rude - telling someone that they are not disabled because they have good days sometimes is absolutely unacceptable.

I didn't order via tesco directly because they don't offer one hour slots, and atm I am not sure how I'll feel from one hour to the next.

Anyway, I'm sorry I seem to have caused an argument, that's the last thing I wanted to do.

You didn't start the argument. Those posters themselves did.

I do notice you seem to have a very low opinion of yourself. I hope you will learn to see that:

  1. Your needs due to your disability are NOT an inconvenience. Even if they were, it doesn't compare to how much of normal life is an inconvenience to people with disabilities. This is why you are protected by law. Don't ever apologise for it.
  2. You are not responsible for other posters' (and people's) behaviour. They are adults who choose to argue over a topic that affects you. Their behaviour is only a reflection on themselves.

That's terrible OP!! I have a disability that's variable too, mostly I am fine to walk and pick light things up, but there are times I am literally stuck sitting time and can only gingerly hobble. No-one has the right to judge. Please raise merry hell.

The guy that trained me in that job ended up leaving due to dodgy knees and back. He was only 41.

That's way too young to be crippled with arthritis.
I do sympathise with delivery drivers, and never expect - ever.
One driver, seeing me barely able to lift the stuff he left by the front door came back up the path and offered to help- he was so kind.
That was one of the main parcel delivery companies.

I have MS too and have had this experience before. Absolutely complain. It’s disgusting!
