To think that postbox toppers are an aberration and those who produce them should be shot at dawn (I should say 'light hearted' here but it goes against the grain)

That really.

Postbox toppers. Those crocheted monstrosities decorating every postbox within a 500 metres of GAILS bakery.

Why?

My AIBU is am I unreasonable for thinking they add no value to life and represent a huge drain on resources that could be better put to work creating reusable string bags.

@HarrietJet the evidence that I am the only one who has an isshew is thin on the ground on this thread. 'Only' means singular. HTH.

Nobody else had an isshew quite as extreme as yours.

gearedup · 10/09/2023 17:52

The old MN chestnut: you express dislike for something/someone = you must be jealous

The OP is clearly a cool wife, to use another bollocks MN chestnut that's wheeled out when someone doesn't agree with you.

Huns2Getha4Eva · 10/09/2023 17:54

Awe, I think there rlly cute xx

thats an impressive beehive, creation

But it does affect me as I pass multiple versions as I walk through the streets in my locale.

i guess then look at something else ?

Not knowing what it means I just googled 'Mumsnet Cool Wife definition ' and it appears I am a cross between Myra Hindley and the aforementioned Anthea Turner.

I know that my dislike of postbox toppers isn't popular with all but this does seem a bit extreme. Never even mentioned my husband. He's never been immortalised in nylon thread and popped on the top of our local box so there was no need.

I think you missed the "bollocks" in my "cool wife" comment.

You must have been watching too many post boxes. Grin

I put in the little detail of 'outside a Waitrose' purely to give you pleasure, OP.

I find your dislike of the toppers funny, OP, given your writing style.

I can imagine Hyacinth Bucket writing to her local counsellor in your style (crocheted monstrosities, abominations, breakdown of society, as I pass in my locale etc)

Is Hyacinth Bouquet also a 'cool wife'?

Also do you think if I wrote to my councillor he'd do something about it?

The crime rate round here is going up. I think the appearance of multiple postbox topping could be the catalyst. It's making the youf stabby.

Find this one the other day, pretty sure we have no Gail's though

I like them.

‘Good for you.’

That’s a bit unnecessarily snarky. Do you generally have a problem with people who have a different opinion to yours?

Titfortat78 · 10/09/2023 18:20

I hate to point out but your also commenting on Mumsnet yourself.🤣🤣🤣 I'm with the OP I think they look hideous and won't look so good after a lot of rain.

GuineaPigPosie · 10/09/2023 18:22

I have no strong opinion either way, but I initially read your title as "postbox toddlers" and was very confused as to what a postbox toddler was and what the poor wee things had done to offend you Grin

Giggorata · 10/09/2023 18:22

Someone near us does some very intricate ones, which are quite striking.
The coronation one was particularly good.
i don't think we have a Gail's bakery anywhere in the vicinity

BorgQueen · 10/09/2023 18:22

YABU, the Rememberance Poppy one that gets put up near to our village war memorial is beautiful.

That looks like one of those hats that bagpipers wear.

Titfortat78 · 10/09/2023 18:30

We used to get a few big ones every year. My own kids have had a few small ones from parties. But I would rather get the tubs. Better for sharing. There's been a few Christmases I couldn't decide between the 4 so bought all 4. Gone off quality street now though. Seem to be hard and inedible.

IrateAndUnhinged · 10/09/2023 18:34

You see my AIBU was not 'do you like them or not' but are my feelings of horror seeing them on a public utility in a public space legitimate?

I have no doubt some people like them. But is it ok for them to litter public property?

So far, despite all the lovely pictures and affirmations of enjoyment I am getting a sense that I am not alone.

It is good not to be alone.

For no man is an island..
