What do you think about people who swear ?

Do you judge them ?

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 04/09/2023 06:51

Yes but only in certain contexts with people who also swear.

Wonkypumpkin · 04/09/2023 07:04

I wouldn’t say I never swear, but if I do it’s only mildly in a fit of annoyance to myself discreetly.

I don’t swear or allow other people to swear front of my young child, I personally don’t think it’s nice behaviour to swear in front of children.

I think it’s unprofessional in the workplace too (I’m office based), and when colleagues do it it irks me a bit.

Laurama91 · 04/09/2023 07:10

Unfortunately quite a lot. Work in a warehouse, everyone does. I dont swear however around elderly or people I've just met.
Doesn't judge anyone, also worked in a pub so was normal

Oysterbabe · 04/09/2023 07:11

Yes. Not constantly but when appropriate. I don't judge unless it's excessive.

whatt2do · 04/09/2023 07:16

I'm actually a very sweary person - but definitely in the right place and time. I have older teens and we can be quite sweary in the house amongst each other, but there's a very clear understanding that its absolutely not the same outside of the house or with guests. I do find telling my 17 year old not to be a dick head or a fucking idiot can help difuse a situation (obviously tone and context are everything here) as it tends to make him laugh so we can have a proper conversation about what ever was going on.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 04/09/2023 07:18

Depends on the context but yes I do swear and of course I don't judge people for swearing. I judge people who judge people for swearing, though.

SpiderExtinction · 04/09/2023 07:18

No, I don't swear at all. It goes through me like nails on a chalk board when people swear around me.

NorthWestThree · 04/09/2023 07:19

Yep..loads. it's just words.

PureAmazonian · 04/09/2023 07:19

This!

HorsePlatitudes · 04/09/2023 07:19

I’m sweary as fuck.

Readingineading · 04/09/2023 07:21

Yes, under the right circumstances I swear like a docker.
Never at work or in front of anyone who would find it offensive and I always presume that anyone Id just met would find it offensive.

iamthattree · 04/09/2023 07:21

Yes but like a pp am a time and place swearer. With dh - awful. Work - only with certain people I know well. In front of teen kids - never until very recently, now the occasional crap and similar light swearing. In front of my mother - never!

honeyandfizz · 04/09/2023 07:22

Like a fucking trooper.

HectorSalamanca · 04/09/2023 07:22

Yes I swear a fair bit. I work in an office with 2 other people who also swear alot, so I swear in work alot more than I do at home.

Thepeopleversuswork · 04/09/2023 07:24

I'm very sweary with friends in non professional, adult company. I love swearing, it's a brilliant escape valve and stress release. The right swear word can be a great ice breaker, can make you laugh and create solidarity.

I swear very sparingly around my DD and other kids: not because I want them to think its taboo but because I want them to learn that they need to develop sensitivities around it. I do think an occasional swear word at the right moment is fine but I don't want to be one of these parents who does it every time they open their mouth.

When I hear people swearing indiscriminately it tells me that they aren't very bright or sensitive and can't read an environment.

usernother · 04/09/2023 07:24

Yes, but not in public places and only with other friends who swear. I hate it when people swear in public when I can hear it, I think it's really disrespectful. Also, I never swear in from of my adult children.

Vegetus · 04/09/2023 07:28

All the fucking time.

pinkdelight · 04/09/2023 07:29

I love sweating but can edit it out if inappropriate for work/social situation.

illiterato · 04/09/2023 07:29

Yes but I’m a massive hypocrite as I also judge people who swear every other word or really loudly in public, esp if there are little kids around. I became aware I was doing it more and more so I’ve cut back to critical situations only.

tuvamoodyson · 04/09/2023 07:29

No. I detest swearing, it always sounds so aggressive.

LittleRedYarny · 04/09/2023 07:30

I’m with @NorthWestThree @PureAmazonian @HorsePlatitudes and @honeyandfizz - it’s a sign of intelligence and a pain management tool, so I fucking do it with joy!

swearer · 04/09/2023 07:32

I swear a little bit in certain contexts, like has been mentioned. With my DH when no one else is there, freely. Not at work, unless with others that also swear and away from other colleagues ( I find the swearers are my 'realest 'colleagues ) but even then it's not actually excessive.

I swear with one of my sis in laws if the kids aren't there. Again, not excessive. We've known each other for years. My other sis in law ( younger ) won't swear at all and often uses the word ' poo poo ' instead of shit. I don't judge people for swearing at all, but sometimes I do judge for making such a massive effort NOT to say the word shit. Like who do you think you are ?

I don't like the C word and wouldn't use it.

Not only do I swear, but I swear in five languages.

No. I detest swearing, it always sounds so aggressive.

I think it sounds aggressive it it's loud and every other word, but not if it's occasional.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 04/09/2023 07:34

In day to day conversation, no but I do sometimes out of frustration. Swearing doesn't bother me, I just think some people do and some people don't.
