What do you think about people who swear ?

Do you judge them ?

Yes quite a bit, but generally only mildly. The bigger words come out when they are needed (but never the C word - only one I don’t say). And I have a filter - so not in work or in front of small dc, etc. I don’t particularly like conversational swearing/swearing for no reason other than to swear and I also don’t like it when people are prissy about swearing - they are as bad as the every other word is fuck type of person. So yes, in a middle of the road kind of manner - this thread has made me realise how nuanced my attitude towards swearing is 😂.

Toastiesforever · 04/09/2023 13:37

In scotland "Cunt" is a term of endearment 😍

Curseofthenation · 04/09/2023 13:42

I swear around old school friends and my family. Not constantly but for impact when I'm telling a story or being feisty.

I don't swear around my DH, his family or my newer friends very often though as they don't swear. I think lots of people change their swearing habits based on their audience.

PetiteNasturtium · 04/09/2023 13:47

I don’t like people swearing in front of small children or where it could offend such as in a religious establishment. I don’t mind swearing but I’m mindful of others.

SaltyGod · 04/09/2023 13:49

I do, but not in public and only with certain people in appropriate conversations. I don’t ever swear at people.

I do judge if people are swearing loudly in public or around children.

Pancakefam · 04/09/2023 13:59

I judge people that swear in front of small children, then tell the children that they're not allowed to swear, as massive hypocrites. Also, I'm not convinced by the "sweary people are smarter" type conclusions and the people that push them.

FrenchandSaunders · 04/09/2023 14:05

Yes, in context, and when needed. I never swore around my children when they were small but by mid teens I was relieved to reintroduce it. The rules were they were never allowed to swear at anyone, but the odd swear rude in context is fine.

FFS is always on the tip of my tongue these days ... menopausal.

Prelapsarianhag · 04/09/2023 14:05

I swear like a trooper, but I'm 70 and I don't give a fuck.

BeachHutCornwall · 04/09/2023 14:07

I swear like a navvy. Literally don't care, if anyone is faux-raged, then that is not a 'me' problem

ShutTheDoorBabe · 04/09/2023 14:13

Yes unless I'm at work. A child bit me at work a few weeks before the summer holidays and I almost shouted out, "Fuck!!!" but I stopped myself. Otherwise, I swear if I need to.

One of my SILs wouldn’t let her toddlers say ‘wee’ and ‘poo’. She insisted on ‘urine’ and ‘excrement’.

What??? 😳😳😳

ShutTheDoorBabe · 04/09/2023 14:51

Not allowing them to say piss or shit I could understand but wee and poo?! Bonkers!

Theoldwoman · 04/09/2023 14:51

I don’t.

I don’t judge unless it’s absolutely vulgar and not necessary.

Yerroblemom1923 · 04/09/2023 15:05

No, I make up my own swear words for comedic effect. I also find it aggressive hearing someone speak where every other word is the f word. Think it makes people sound a bit dim if that's the sum of their vocabulary.
I have sworn when in pain "pinch finger in door" type thing. There's a time and a place. Hate hearing kids swear as you know where they've got it from. Eg mum to 3 year old Jayden in the supermarket "For fuck's sake, Jayden, if you don't fucking stop crying...." etc etc
Aggressive, uncouth and unnecessary.

Oblomov23 · 04/09/2023 15:21

I try not to, but I've noticed my swearing had increased in recent years. I'm going to try and reduce it.

Verv · 04/09/2023 15:45

Yep, like a sailor.
No, I dont judge, unless its parents swearing at young kids.

PurpleBugz · 04/09/2023 18:09

I switch it off when I'm working as I work with kids. Also don't do it around strangers or any kids in general. But at home around my own kids? All the fucking time. I teach them they are bad words you can use as a grownup and at appropriate times- my kids don't swear at all.

Never heard it as a term of endearment in Scotland or anywhere else

Bingus · 04/09/2023 20:58

Cock is a term of endearment where I'm originally from.

Blackblueandgold · 04/09/2023 21:06

I can honestly say I've never said a swear word ever. I think it sounds horrible.

floofball4 · 04/09/2023 21:09

I try not to. I think it shows a real lack of imagination.

AffIt · 04/09/2023 21:19

In context and among friends, I have a mouth like a fucking sailor.

However, I am aware of the company I keep and the situation I'm in and gauge it appropriately.

I do get very judgey about people swearing wildly in public.

FindingMeno · 04/09/2023 21:41

Quite a lot though I do have an off button.

FindingMeno · 04/09/2023 21:44

I do judge people who swear loudly.
I think I'd like to be a person who doesn't swear at all.

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 04/09/2023 21:49

I stealth swear mainly. So, I can say the c word really loud without moving my lips when someone drives like a twat near me. I can say f you almost silently under my breath at my teen when he is constantly answering back from another room and I am keeping my (percieved) cool.

I swear with friends when talking about absolute w'ker men who have shown total disregard for children, truth, honesty, integrity and respect.

I also say shit very loud if I stub my toe or drop a plate.
