AIBU to wish that other children's mums would not dish out chocolate to my DD at school?

My 4 year old came home from school with a creme egg yesterday as one of the mums of the class wanted to give all the children a 'pre-Easter' present. (It was February!). I know it was a kind gesture but I do feel annoyed that someone else can give my child something which I wouldn't acually have given her myself unless it was a very special treat. I could hardly tell her she couldn't have it. I'm not REALLY annoyed by it and wouldn't have minded if it was this child's birthday but I just wish other parents wouldn't do this. AIBU?

what, they just gave out eggs,willy nilly ? I'd've been cross that they are having Easter stuff before Easter,more than anything else - why can't people learn to WAIT

You can tell her she can't have it.

Mine come home with all sorts of crap when it is someone's birthday and they know they are probably going to swap it with something out of the cupboard at home that I do agree with.

Chocolate is very closely associated with Easter these days so it's probably to be expected.

I find that kids are given sweets as a matter of course all the time. My dd was at a birthday party this morning and there were various sweets in her goody bag. No-one checked that we were OK with this (we are) and, tbh, I wouldn't really expect them to (as long as no nuts, of course, cos of the prevalence of allergies).

Perhaps you might have to rethink your "very special treats only" approach?

I might even think it was a sweet thing to do.

Wouldn't bother me tbh. Mine don't eat loads of rubbish and a little chocolate has never killed anyone.

MsHW - yes, but it isn't Easter, is it? I would expect it at a birthday party and be okay with that, but this was just a normal day at school. I don't want her to have chocolate every day - I don't have it myself every day - much as I would like to!!

No. I don't get worked up about these things either. I am worked up about the fact that we are not allowed to take homemade cakes into dd's preschool anymore, for birthdays. They have to be shop bought and sealed in their original wrapper. Health and Safety .

But I wouldn't get upset about this. I'd have 'shared' the egg though...

I always thought this would bother me but to be honest I just don't buy any chocolate or sweets for the girls, and so it is nice for them to get something as a treat from another (more generous less anal than myself) mother. So actually I am surprising myself by thinking YABU.
I have been to a lovely party with my 2.5 yo and returned with an expensive party bag full of Bratz stuff. It was a great party, but I really hate Bratz and object to that much more than the sweets and chocolate . I will have to lose it over the coming week I think.

I can't stand Bratz either VP. Managed to avoid it so far but I know it's coming!

Coming home with a creme egg wouldn't bother me.

I wouldn't hand them out to kids I didn't know well, as I would be worried some people might not like to let their kids have one, but I'd be ok if someone else gave one to mine- surprised, but ok!

BlueCornflower, it's not everyday though, is it? It's one creme egg which you could, if you choose to, make your dd keep until another time.

My dd doesn't have chocolate every day either though she does have it fairly frequently. She got loads at Christmas, much of which is still hidden away in a tin on top of a cupboard to be doled out over a period of time. (She is only 2, though, so can get away with this atm).

FWIW, I recall a tv prog a while back about various aspects of child development. It appears that children with very limited access to sweets at home are more likely to gorge themselves when given the opportunity than kids who have much freer access. The latter seem to learn to appreciate reasonable quantities of the stuff in a way the former, apparently, do not.
