To feel bad for the Lionesses ?

Whether footy minded or not I cannot help but feel bad for the Lionesses today with no person of note to support them. The Spanish Queen can go.It feels like an own goal to me letting the Ladies down. Not a good look for our country I think. What do you think?

I agree, although I can also imagine the howls of outrage over expense, climate, privilege, if Prince William had gone.

panko · 20/08/2023 10:37

I can't imagine they care that much tbh

yogasaurus · 20/08/2023 10:37

Nope, can’t get worked up about this.

TenOhSeven · 20/08/2023 10:38

Pretty sure they'll be focusing on the game and won't give a shit who is in the stands other than friends and family.
I actually think it's shocking that the Queen of Spain has flown all the way to Sydney for one game of football.

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 20/08/2023 10:38

I just feel its such a massive achievement and they should be supported as the Mens game would be.

As Prince William is president of the FA I do think it’s wrong that he isn’t there.

He should have hitched a lift with the Queen of Spain

backtogrey · 20/08/2023 10:38

Who cares? I like the football but don’t give a monkeys about celebrities

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 20/08/2023 10:39

If they win, they won't give a toss whether they had a prince or a politician to watch them!

historygeek · 20/08/2023 10:40

Let's not make the massive achievement of these women about the presence (or not) of one man

Lets hope so! It just doesnt sit well with me.

It’s a huge snub. I cant imagine either the pm or the president of the FA have missed any other such final.

Never thought of it like that. Great point.

Why would they want any of the self-indulgent fools that comprise our Royal Family gurning at them from the VIP box?

Exactly,

KajsaKavat · 20/08/2023 10:47

They have the entire country behind them, I think they feel lucky.

daisychain01 · 20/08/2023 10:47

In the current era of climate change, I absolutely stand by the Royal Family and the government in not flying to Australia for a football match. I bet if they'd gone everyone would be whinging about their hypocrisy at travelling "all that way for a bloody football match".

I'm sure the Lionesses are 100% focused on the job in hand, bringing it home for the first time since 1966. I hope they do and the whole country will welcome them home whilst trying to setting a better example in the past of stopping all this unnecessary air travel.

daisychain01 · 20/08/2023 10:48

than in the past
