Hate my new bath.. I could cry..

We have never had any money to do anything to our houses in the 10+ years we've lived together.
We had a shell suite style bathroom that was in when we moved, not exactly modern but worked ok.

We have saved and had a new bathroom fitted this one

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/turin-l-shaped-1700-complete-bathroom-package?sku=TRCBS-RH

It looks lovely. But I'm a huge bath person.. it's my comfort.. and the bath is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever laid in.
It's so narrow there is no where to put my arms.. and where I would rest my head just hurts my neck. I come out feeling more stressed than when I went in. I could cry.
What can I do?
Please say someone else has been here 😢

Have you tried lying tap end with a bath pillow?

Mybusyday · 15/08/2023 00:05

I empathise with you - I hate mine too despite getting in to the same bath in the shop to try it out. I have definitely cried over my bath. My advice I’m afraid - just wanted to say I completely understand xx

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 00:06

@Ponoka7 yes 😞 I even went to Argos tonight and paid £20 for a bath pillow.. no joy 😢

I'm wondering if it's possible to move the taps to the centre. But the tap end of the bath is much less slanted than the narrow end if that makes sense so not sure if it would even be comfortable to lay against it even if the taps weren't there.

Bath pillow could really change your life. My other half insisted on a huge bathtub when you changed the bathroom. I like reading in the bath and our new tub is so long first time I tried I kept sliding down. My sister recommended a bath pillow and it changed my life!

mynamechangemyrules · 15/08/2023 00:08

Oh no! I'm at the panicking stage as haven't even tried my bath yet... please post bath pillow recs as I think I'll need something to make it live up to what I'm hoping for

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 00:10

@mynamechangemyrules this is the one I've just bought www.argos.co.uk/product/9563074 it didn't help my uncomfortable bath so I'll happily post it to you for nothing.. it'll only go in the garage!

@Mybusyday you haven't got used to it then? 😢 it does make me feel better to know you even tried yours and don't like it, we obviously just ordered ours online. I honestly thought a bath was a bath.. I've never been in one that's been this uncomfortable. There's just no where to rest my arms I feel wedged in like a sardine and I'm a size 14 so I'm not exactly huge.. there's no where to put my feet at the end as it's one big tap in the centre.. I just hate hate hate it 😞

Oh shit. I've ordered this for installation next week. I just thought baths were baths

Alarmclockstop · 15/08/2023 00:14

And we have no money saved for so long. Feel your pain.

alexdgr8 · 15/08/2023 00:16

this is why i think people should go to a showroom and take off shoes and coats and ask to lie in some tubs.
as you would with buying a bed.
go and do this now, OP, in various cheaper suppliers.
find a basic big enough one and save up or get a loan and have your plumber replace it.
doubt you will be able to recoup anything on the original one though, ask plumber, might be some market for almost new stylish tub.
esp if you don't mention how uncomfortable it is, or a small person buys it for bargain price.
good luck OP.

Inca22 · 15/08/2023 00:17

I wanted to empathise. We moved house a year or so ago, and everyone of the baths we have are spa baths. Given I too will ONLY have a bath (hate showers) I was soo happy thinking it would be like a spa every night. NOO! The stupid jets just capture so much dirt - it's actually disgusting. And the amount of money I spend on specialist cleaner is also disgusting.

I long to replace all the baths with just standard normal ones. If I were you, rather than try and make it work I'd just replace too.

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 00:18

@Alarmclockstop have you ordered exactly the same bath/suite?

We did that. The salesman clearly thought we were insane, but it’s the only way to tell.

alexdgr8 · 15/08/2023 00:19

it's a lesson learned; handsome is as handsome does.
make a plan to remedy.

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 15/08/2023 00:21

It doesn't look the most comfortable to be fair. Very angular and cut off. No rounded bits.

I am sympathising, but I wouldn't have gone with it just by pictures alone. I'm guessing due to design that you can't replace with some more rolled, if not necessarily wider.

Is a usual length? I swear when we moved in to this house that the bath is short. Others disagree.

What about a towel over the edge under your head? It'll get wet (no s Sherlock!) But may leave room and provide comfort.

Can you find a fault with it and get it replaced?!

Holidaystress11 · 15/08/2023 00:22

Move the taps to the middle like the one in the photo? And head at the other end ot the end with the shower door, and try a different pillow?

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 00:22

@alexdgr8 good idea. We had a plumber do this bathroom as we were replacing everything and retiling.. but if it's just the bath I think a friend of mine or my dad might be able to change it. I just know I'll get the blame for not looking into it more or something.. my partner just sent me the link and I said yes that looks nice? It never entered my head how uncomfortable it would be.

Holidaystress11 · 15/08/2023 00:23

We rent and I don't like our bath. It's too deep and long. But bugger all we can do other than move 🤣

justasking111 · 15/08/2023 00:24

We moved in to this house an enormous D bath takes 20 minutes to half fill im too short so my feet don't touch the end and cleaning it is a pain leaning across. I gave up and only shower now.

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 00:18

@Alarmclockstop have you ordered exactly the same bath/suite?

Yes, and I would love to be a size 14 and feel like a sardine 😥really worried now, didn't think baths could be uncomfortable I fit fine in my 70s tub.

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 00:26

@Holidaystress11 I thought about moving taps, but is that possible without leaving gaping holes? I have no idea on these things! I might try the body pillow as a means to an end, thank you 🩷

I feel your pain - we had that shaped bath fitted 6 years ago and I could have wept when I got in it. I’ve sort of got used to it now though. Ours have taps in the middle - bad idea- can’t top up the hot water without scalding your right leg!

VeridicalVagabond · 15/08/2023 00:27

Our house had a very very similar set to this when we moved in, in fact I think bath and shower are identical. I'd been so excited to have my own bath as I hadn't had one since living at my parents but couldn't take to the square one at all. Felt like lying in a flooded coffin. We tore it out as soon as we could and replaced it with something "curvier".

My husband loved it but he sits in the bath sideways with his legs hanging out over the side like a weirdo so what does he know 😂

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 15/08/2023 00:28

Yeah we did this. We bought a slipper bath in a short size so it would fit nicely in front of the walk in shower. I said it looked really small when it arrived and my DP said it would be fine once it was up on its feet at the correct angle.

When we took it upstairs to fit it, my DP got in it just to see how comfy it was - he barely fit in with legs stretched and we're both really short.
He's thin so could probably make do but I'm fat and genuinely don't think I could actually use it. Neither of us have even bothered to use it - it's a great size for the kids though 😣.
I have a knackered back so getting in and out of any bath is agony, so I suppose I'm not missing out that much.

OP I had a bath like yours fitted in my previous house and it was very uncomfortable to bathe in. The first thing my buyers said they were intending doing was ripping out the bath.
