I hate my EMMA mattress

I have an EMMA mattress that I have steadily grown to hate, I couldn't return it as my cats had pulled the sides a bit so I just made peace with it, now I'm starting to think I must change it or I'll go mad!!!
I don't want a memory foam mattress as I think they are fake advertising, does anybody actually like theirs?
If I decide to give in and buy myself a new one what should I go for?

I hate memory foam. It’s too hot.

BonjourCrisette · 06/08/2023 21:11

I love my memory foam mattress, and have not had a day's back pain since I bought it midway through a very back pain ridden pregnancy. There are maybe a handful of days a year when it feels a bit too hot. Presuming you are also in the UK, it probably won't be a problem. Maybe go to a shop and lie on one. I would never have any other type of mattress again.

CharlotteFlax · 06/08/2023 21:12

Also can't bear memory foam. It's like it traps me and I cannot move. Not good!

Sorry about your stupid EMMA mattress!

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 06/08/2023 21:15

i have tried and hated memory foam. I like a sprung mattress with a pillow top.

Catusrusty · 06/08/2023 21:17

Mine was waaaaaay too hot and just not supportive enough.

I have some lower back and hip issues, they worsened dramatically when we changed to the Emma mattress including sometimes my legs giving way in the morning once I stood up. It sagged where I sleep too. The cat was sick on it while it was stripped of bedding so it couldn't go back.

I changed to a much more supportive latex mattress and my god the difference. No overheating. I still have pain, but not agony and thank goodness no more sudden leg buckling.

I have to say, my Emma mattress was an utter disaster. I work with someone and he hates his too.

However my sister has a Tempur memory foam mattress and says its been brilliant for her back, so different strokes for different folks I guess.

LozzaChops101 · 06/08/2023 21:20

My Emma mattress left me viscerally enraged with everything and everyone. It’s in the spare room now (although I’d have loved to have set fire to it) and I bought a Feather and Black natural fibres one in the sale instead. Expensive mistake.

IamChipmunk · 06/08/2023 21:21

We have the Emma hybrid which is springs and memory foam. Its also shit!

We had a springs and latex pillow top before that, that was so heavy we couldn't move it on our own and that was comfy but hot!

EVHead · 06/08/2023 21:22

Not as good as I hoped. It sags where I lie. I sleep really well on it though!

midsomermurderess · 06/08/2023 21:22

IKEA do very good mattresses. I also have a memory foam one and I'd never go for one again.

Harebell22 · 06/08/2023 21:24

I have a hypnos sprung mattress, it's great. I can't abide memory foam mattresses.

BeetyAxe · 06/08/2023 21:24

I find mine extremely comfy, but it makes me so hot and gives me a sore back. But it’s so comfortable. I’m so confused.

Susieb2023 · 06/08/2023 21:24

Hate mine, not great for my menopausal overheating. Wish I’d known that before I bought it tbh!!!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 06/08/2023 21:24

Sprung with a soft top - it took a while (a few weeks) to settle but now it's really comfortable and supportive. It has been discontinued so I can't recommend it, unfortunately, but I would choose one from a big manufacturer and expect to pay a decent amount.

MindPalace · 06/08/2023 21:25

Had a tempur memory foam mattress for 20 yrs now. still perfect for my fussy husband and me. Like floating on air.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 06/08/2023 21:28

We've got a dreams Therapur mattress. Was about £800 but worth every penny

Pasithean · 06/08/2023 21:29

Our tempur is twenty years old and recently showing its age. But I don’t know what to replace it with. I’m disabled so it makes a big difference to us.

ChiaraRimini · 06/08/2023 21:30

I have an IKEA Hovag mattress which i would recommend as a good value pocket sprung mattress.
I also had a bad experience with memory foam as I felt I sunk into it so much that it was strangely claustrophobic (at the time I was not even that heavy!) and it was so hot that it woke me up bathed in sweat. That was before peri menopause as well!

DisforDarkChocolate · 06/08/2023 21:31

According to my local bed shop about 40% of people who get a memory foam mattress hate it. I couldn't even cope with a memory foam topper!

fuckthisprivilage · 06/08/2023 21:32

We spent an eye-watering amount on a v-spring mattress and divan once and honestly it was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever had. It seemed blissful in the showroom but had zero support and caused me awful backache.

Replaced with a firm sprung IKEA Hovig mattress with an inexpensive memory foam topper. Utter bliss. Great support with a little layer of softness.

LadyWithLapdog · 06/08/2023 21:32

We have Emma and also starting to hate it. We slept in a nice bed in a hotel recently, even asked the owner where it was from (hotel had been recently refurbished). He said Hotel Contract Beds. On my list for as soon as we can afford it.

Shitsandwiches · 06/08/2023 21:33

I had a memory foam mattress - never again. My daughter wet the bed in it one night and true to form, memory mattresses don't forget!

ToBeOrNotToBee · 06/08/2023 21:33

I hated mine too, couldn't wait to get rid of it and gone back to a cheaper ikea mattress. My back, hips and neck thank me.

bridgetreilly · 06/08/2023 21:34

IKEA mattresses are presumably made for IKEA beds, not standard sizes.

RhosynBach · 06/08/2023 21:35

I love mine! Must be in minority! I’ve bought ones for my kids too. Luckily they are (hopefully) old enough not to wee in them!

TinySaltLick · 06/08/2023 21:35

Have an Emma and hate it, also have a Simba Luxe and it is superb
