I hate my EMMA mattress

I have an EMMA mattress that I have steadily grown to hate, I couldn't return it as my cats had pulled the sides a bit so I just made peace with it, now I'm starting to think I must change it or I'll go mad!!!
I don't want a memory foam mattress as I think they are fake advertising, does anybody actually like theirs?
If I decide to give in and buy myself a new one what should I go for?

I had a memory foam mattress, never ever again! Made my back pain so much worse and as others have said- far too hot. And this was in Scotland so to the poster who said being in the UK would be fine, nope they're still too hot.
We switched to a Dreams pocket sprung Seaquel one and it. is. AMAZING!!!!
Yes it cost a heck of a lot of pennies but it has been so so so so so so so worth it! Been using it for 2 years now and still completely love it.
Go to Dreams and try their sleep machine thing that helps you choose a mattress. It's brilliant!

Bonfire23 · 07/08/2023 00:15

Mine is springs topped with memory foam, the older version of this
https://www.bensonsforbeds.co.uk/products/slumberland-clima-airstream-memory-3000-mattress/?sku=STK767201

I've had just springs and just memory foam and this one is perfect

MarySmit · 07/08/2023 00:17

Tempur is amazing. Perfect support and cool. Cheap alternatives like Emma are rubbish though (and also not even particularly cheap)

Growlybear83 · 07/08/2023 00:40

I bought a tempur mattress about 18 months ago and it is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever slept on. I opted for the softest one and it's still like sleeping on a stone floor and it's made my back problem much much worse. But it was so expensive I haven't felt that I could change it again. I've recently bought a John Lewis topper which has made it slightly better.

Soccerlegs · 07/08/2023 00:44

Emma is a shit mattress and even shittier customer service.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 07/08/2023 00:57

I wanted an Emma /Simba when our super expensive and disappointing dreams mattress went too squishy. Due to budgets we ended up following the which advice and getting an IKEA one they recommended. Hest decision ever. Plus because it was cheaper I can actually replace it every five years rather than feel I should get 25 years out of it! Think it was hovag

volcan · 07/08/2023 01:06

I had a Simba and hated it but managed to sell on eBay and replaced with a cheap-ish but great IKEA pocket spring mattress. I would go for firm and then get a softer topper if needed. A lump of foam is never going to outperform a coiled metal spring for supportiveness! I'm annoyed that I was taken in by the marketing.

Haggisfish3 · 07/08/2023 01:18

I got this one and love it. Vesgantti 5FT King Size Mattress, 9.4 Inch Pocket Sprung Mattress King with Breathable Foam and Individually Pocket Spring - Medium, Standard Tight Top Collection https://amzn.eu/d/3HbCxWa

Nat6999 · 07/08/2023 01:21

I have a Shires sprung memory foam mattress, it's the best one I have ever had. It's due for replacing, I've rung their head office to find out what is the nearest one to mine to buy to replace it.

bellabasset · 07/08/2023 01:24

I have a pocket spru ng mattress, which is so onfortable, use cotton sheets and a lightweight duvet

Holscgnmusch · 07/08/2023 03:59

Have an Emma and love it, also sorted out my DP‘s bad back

Itsallovernow23 · 07/08/2023 08:45

My partners back problem is deteriorating with Emma. We were indeed the impression you could send it back within 200 days - is this not the case?

GetOurraMeWay · 07/08/2023 09:02

I LOATHE memory foam mattresses, too sweaty, and like sleeping on wet sand. Ugh. Warren Evans (above) is very good. They will also advise you via their chat function.

I thought they were hypnos. Anyway I want one, I'm currently led in one and yet again it is the comfiest mattress, infact they seem to have improved. I will only work away if the company books premier inn.

They were, but they changed to SilentNight last year. Maybe check under the sheets to make sure which one you have.l

Yorkshireteaformethanks · 07/08/2023 11:03

I'm not impressed by our Emma mattress either. I have to sleep with a flat pillow under me slightly as I sleep on my tummy a lot, it helps but I've never had back pain like it since we got it. Trouble is, DH thinks it's marvellous!

someonethatyoulovetoomuch · 07/08/2023 11:08

Hated my Emma mattress, getting a premier inn mattress when we move house next year and I cannot wait!

TelfordPlace · 07/08/2023 11:30

I returned the one I bought. It was an inch smaller than the king divan base I already had.

Definitely get a new mattress if you can afford it. Tot up how much time you spend in bed. You should love it!!

I got a good deal on a Sealy one from mynextmattress with a discount code

EarlGreywithLemon · 07/08/2023 12:06

I can’t stand memory foam. We have a John Lewis Natural Collection pocket sprung and it’s brilliant. We had one for our double bed in our first flat, and we now have one for our kingsize bed. Both really comfortable. I’d recommend going to the shop and trying them on, as there are several in the range.

TiredCatLady · 07/08/2023 12:11

IamChipmunk · 06/08/2023 21:21

We have the Emma hybrid which is springs and memory foam. Its also shit!

We had a springs and latex pillow top before that, that was so heavy we couldn't move it on our own and that was comfy but hot!

Yep had this too and utterly hated it. Gave me terrible hip and lower back pain and within a year was sagging horrifically.

Very expensive and absolutely not worth it.

midsomermurderess · 06/08/2023 21:22

IKEA do very good mattresses. I also have a memory foam one and I'd never go for one again.

I came here to say this. IKEA trounced everything in the WHICH tests - really good levels of support and a bargain.

I got their entry level one and it was bliss, like sleeping on a cloud. Then I met BF and he gets in a bed like a sack of spuds and the bounce kept waking me up every time he got back in bed after a night time toilet trip. Since then they've updated their range and put more springs per sq.foot in their entry level one so purchased again and no longer an issue. BF has the original at his, and I have the newer more-springs version at mine.

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 07/08/2023 12:38

Yup, their mattress topper was so soft, I now have to sleep with a wooden board under it

UnbeatenMum · 07/08/2023 12:41

My SIMBA is really comfortable and for the majority of the year I sleep really well but when I replace it I'll be going back to a sprung one, possibly with a memory foam topper for the winter because our house gets incredibly hot in the Summer.

Bunny2021 · 07/08/2023 12:56

I hate our Emma mattress. We’ve got a super king and because we don’t sleep in the middle, it’s got a lumpy middle part.

Its also super hard and we’ve had to buy a topper but still the most uncomfortable mattress and so hard.

I hated the EMMA mattress on day 1 of receiving it and sent it straight back.

I have a Tempur CoolTouch Elite - fully recommend it. Go in and try in store for yourself, that’s the best way :)

Emma mattress was like sleeping on a lump of concrete! Most uncomfortable bed ever. We got a Brooke and Wilde and it was amazing.
