I hate my EMMA mattress

I have an EMMA mattress that I have steadily grown to hate, I couldn't return it as my cats had pulled the sides a bit so I just made peace with it, now I'm starting to think I must change it or I'll go mad!!!
I don't want a memory foam mattress as I think they are fake advertising, does anybody actually like theirs?
If I decide to give in and buy myself a new one what should I go for?

I have a hypnos sprung mattress, it's great. I can't abide memory foam mattresses.

That’s what we have too and it’s brilliant. I’d never get a memory foam one, whenever we’ve slept on them at other peoples’ houses, we’ve been so uncomfortable.

Pegsmum · 06/08/2023 21:54

I have a Rest Assured Panama and I love it.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 06/08/2023 21:54

Feel the same way about my Simba - was like being boiled alive. Apparently it has cooling gel?! False advertising if you ask me.

Now have a wool spring one which is fab.

I have a Tempur hybrid with the ‘cool touch’ top (exclusive to Dreams), and it’s excellent. I bought Tempur stretch sheets - also pricy, but perfect - the whole set up is so comfortable.

IKEA mattresses are presumably made for IKEA beds, not standard sizes.

No they have done standard U.K. sizes for a good few years.

I hated our emma too, back it went but partner liked it.

Go into dreams and try to see what you like x

JaceLancs · 06/08/2023 21:56

I’ve just bought a pocket sprung wool stuffed mattress from John Lewis and am loving it
I previously had memory foam but was struggling to regulate temp since menopause and I wanted medium to firm to help my sciatica

Careerdilemma · 06/08/2023 21:57

Warren Evans mattresses are great. The physical bed shop went out of business as they over-expanded, but they are back online. Such good quality and very comfy.

Neverknewidfindmyselfonhere · 06/08/2023 22:02

We tried Simba and hated it so sent it back. Then we tried Tempur medium, also hated it. Swapped for a Tempur firm and seemed ok but a year later we hate it too. Think memory foam are just not up to the job and would never buy one again. But can't justify getting rid of it just yet so we put up with it and take turns in the spare single bed when the back and hip pain gets too much

Another vote for Sealy, they are excellent.

Ditto. Bought a new mattress a month ago, steered away from all memory foam cos I’m a hot enough sleeper as it is & the menopause is incoming. Like you I bought a Hypnos, and oh my god is it delightful. I was just revelling in my new mattress comfort as I happened upon this thread.

I give my hypnos sprung and wool innards mattress 10/10.

C1N1C · 06/08/2023 22:04

We bought one, and the best night's sleep I've ever had is when I have business meetings elsewhere in the country and have to book a hotel.

Threecacti · 06/08/2023 22:04

I love my Emma mattress. Completely different to a spring mattress so you need to be sure that you like the firmness and feel.

UnfunnyJester · 06/08/2023 22:07

I love the feel of my Emma mattress. Really comfortable. I have a hybrid one but I get too hot in the summer.

Jeevesnotwooster · 06/08/2023 22:07

I bought a Nectar over lockdown. It was great for a year but then started to get a dip. I tried to change it under warranty but they said the dip wasn't enough. It was causing me huge issues with making my back pain worse. Have ended up swapping it for a more expensive hybrid.

Sugarplumfury · 06/08/2023 22:09

I’ve had the Emma standard for about 4 years. I find it comfy and not too hot but my back and neck pain are worse since I’ve got it which is confusing

DisappointingAvocado · 06/08/2023 22:12

Love our Emma mattress but you can't help it if you don't!

Blossomandbee · 06/08/2023 22:15

We've got a Dreams Therapur and I find it too firm for me. We tried them all out in the shop and because I have a heavy husband they said we needed a firm mattress to avoid sagging. If you like a firm mattress then I've had no problems with it otherwise.
My DS had an incredible soft and comfy one from IKEA but as others have said I'm not sure if they fit non IKEA beds.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 06/08/2023 21:42

@VinEtFromage not really. It was marketed as a medium mattress, it's a pocket sprung mattress with a gel layer so it's supportive but it kind of moulds to your shape but not a sinking in kind of way like you have on a memory foam.

@Imamumgetmeoutofhere thanks for your reply, but it's not really what I'm looking for.

Yellowlegobrick · 06/08/2023 22:21

Ikea. Pocket sprung. Think our one has a memory foam layer but it's the pocket springs that make it super comfy.

Nemesias · 06/08/2023 22:21

I bought an Emma and hated it, it was so soft I kept getting back pain. We went to a mattress warehouse and laid on 50 different ones and got a Relyon ortho support 1500.

Yellowlegobrick · 06/08/2023 22:22

Ikea have done normal british size mattresses for years. They used to be European sizes but we have uk standard single, double & king ones bought 7 years ago.

Lourdes12 · 06/08/2023 22:25

I cannot sleep on synthetic mattress so I have a natural spring mattress from Cottonsafe. Best mattress I have ever slept on, worth the money

Babymamamama · 06/08/2023 22:27

Oh god I had the torture of sleeping on an Emma mattress in an airbnb once. Felt I was being cooked. So cheap and nasty. At home it’s Hypnos or Relyon all the way traditional pocket spring mattresses. Cool and comfy.
