I hate my EMMA mattress

I have an EMMA mattress that I have steadily grown to hate, I couldn't return it as my cats had pulled the sides a bit so I just made peace with it, now I'm starting to think I must change it or I'll go mad!!!
I don't want a memory foam mattress as I think they are fake advertising, does anybody actually like theirs?
If I decide to give in and buy myself a new one what should I go for?

Dh got us a Simba one and I FUCKING HATE IT

Never ever liked memory foam - I have no idea what went on in his head when he ordered it!

Its 2 years old now and sagged horribly, it’s too hot for me (pre menopausal) I can never find a comfortable spot to sleep…yet he loves it 😡 thinks it’s the best one he’s ever slept on

Im going to sabotage it at some point so I can get a new one!

I bought a Premier Inn SilentNight Mattress recently and really like it. I knew I would get a chance to test any so went on the basis I'd had a good sleep on holiday!

I love my memory foam mattress, though I don’t have an Emma. I do have central AC though so being hot at night isn’t a concern. If I was sweltering on it all summer long I’m sure I wouldn’t like it as much.

We spent an eye-watering amount on a v-spring mattress and divan once and honestly it was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever had. It seemed blissful in the showroom but had zero support and caused me awful backache.

Replaced with a firm sprung IKEA Hovig mattress with an inexpensive memory foam topper. Utter bliss. Great support with a little layer of softness.

Oh, that's rough. Mine is the best and most expensive thing in the house but I would be raging if I actually hated it. Many sympathies.

Can I recommend soft mattresses to the slim women though? Everyone tried to sell me medium firm. They are all like lying on nails. Great for hefty blokes. Unyielding bastardry if you're 9 odd stone.

boydoggies · 06/08/2023 22:37

I returned my EMMA, it really was disappointing. Replaced it with an OTTY. Firmer and doesn't safe or dip.

Memory foam efforts are like marmite it would seem. I’ve got a Sealy Posturepedic and if there was a fire I would think quite hard about whether to save the mattress or DH. It’s fantastic.

JoeyJeremiah · 06/08/2023 22:40

I think memory foam is definitely a love it or hate it thing.

continentallentil · 06/08/2023 22:45

It was like sleeping in the devils armpit

But they were good in that they efficiently came and got it

Give their customer services a ring, you never know

kwetu · 06/08/2023 22:47

I have a tempur cloud, absolutely love it, has helped my back and aching joints amazingly, I've never found it too hot but I do only sleep with a blanket.

MillWood85 · 06/08/2023 22:48

We've got Furmanac mattresses - latex ones for the spare rooms, and our bed has got a sprung base with a latex topper built in. All weren't cheap but are all superbly comfy. Never skimp on a mattress - we tried one of those god awful Dormeo Octaspring ones for the grandchildrens' bedrooms. It was horrendous, like sleeping on lumpy concrete. That soon went back again.

IKEA mattresses are presumably made for IKEA beds, not standard sizes.

Ikea have done standard UK size beds and bedding for years now.

I would recommend them too. DH and I have one of the mid-range (it was about £450) sprung with built in topper and it's the most comfy bed ever. I adore it.

My sons have the cheaper sprung ones which are also comfy. I also can't bear memory foam - just too hot.

ErniesGhostlyGoldTops · 06/08/2023 22:56

Springs with a latex topper is amazing. Hate memory foam.

spuddel · 06/08/2023 22:57

Just bought a hybrid mattress three months ago, absolutely loathe it! The memory topper is way too hot and in a fit of temper I turned it over to sleep on the sprung end which of course didn't work. A pity as I found the actual surface of memory foam good for my hip/back pain but gosh I woke up all night covered in sweat. I like the sound of a cottonsoft mattress someone mentioned.

JMSA · 06/08/2023 22:57

I love my ancient memory foam mattress.

AuntieSoap · 06/08/2023 22:59

I hated Emma AND Simba. Currently in the market for a new bed and mattress so torn between Ikea for price and Tempur for comfort. Just don't want to be too hot. Simba was awful for that!

Grmumpy · 06/08/2023 23:00

Pocket sprung in our house

JMSA · 06/08/2023 23:01

Are the Emma mattresses the ones I've seen rolled up in Lidl? My memory foam mattress is huge, weighs a ton and there's no way it could be rolled. I'm thinking that a mattress that could is surely rather flimsy.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 06/08/2023 23:07

Went on holiday once and the villa had a water bed. Preconceived ideas went out of the windows once we had slept on it-literally the best nights sleep EVER! You can change the temperature of the water as well. Would love one if we didn’t have to put in some support for one at home!

Upwiththelark76 · 06/08/2023 23:18

I have a simba and I love it . Sleep like a baby every night. Just perfect for
me

I thought they were hypnos. Anyway I want one, I'm currently led in one and yet again it is the comfiest mattress, infact they seem to have improved. I will only work away if the company books premier inn.

SabbatWheel · 06/08/2023 23:49

We’ve got a Shakespeare pocket sprung mattress that came from Dreams about 10 years ago. It’s firm but so comfortable and will probably last another 10 years. Not expensive either. It’s only a double but can’t feel anything when DH turns over in bed.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 06/08/2023 23:57

Hated the Emma so much - so hot I felt like I was being cooked. Was able to send back luckily. When replacing were told loads of people don’t get on with the memory foam. You’re not alone!

Ridiculousradish · 07/08/2023 00:04

Oh my God I hated my Emma mattress. Gave me the worst hip pain and I felt so unsupported. Now have a hard as rock orthopedic one with a topper. So much better and was much cheaper as in the sale. Win!
