To think Catherine Tyldesley is a CF - cakegate

I can’t help but feel that when you’re in a position of privilege and a celeb of any description, you shouldn’t by asking small independent businesses for free shit...

But, if you do, at least own it. The video of her belittling “the cake lady” really shows what a tramp she actually is.

Cakegate: Ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley hits back after 'bizarre' row with Three Little Birds Bakery over free cakes

Three Little Birds Bakery said it declined a request from an events agency to make a cake and 100 cupcakes for the birthday of a "well-known" celebrity - later revealed to be Tyldesley - in exchange for promotion on social media and in a magazine.

The hypocrisy lies in the fact that she expected social media to be enough to excuse paying for the cakes. So she can’t really turn round and say it’s not on for social media to go against her and say “you should be paying”

but any comment about her looks, her children are completely wrong and says a lot about those posters

I think they are both in the wrong but CT more so. Why didn't the bakery just politely decline. No need to write such a venomous letter. But the so called celeb has shown herself in a very poor light and has come of worse in the end.IMHO.

To be fair to the bakery, I suspect they had no idea it would become such a big thing on social media when they shared their response. They probably expected a few likes from their own followers and that would be it. They also did not name the "celebrity"

People who court publicity like this cannot determine which aspect of their life is chosen to be commented on. The fact that it is cake and she is looking so gaunt in it - it was inevitable especially as she blogs so much about her weight. She spoke about her children in the clip too and the press coming to her house ..you could say the same thing about her. Why bring her children into a cake story? If you make your living by being a SM pedaler then that is the risk. You think it is irrelevant? I think it was to be purely expected. Different viewpoints.

I'd agree with this. She wants it every which way. Life very rarely works that way.

Just so supportive on here this morning. ☹️

No one is owed support. No one is owed kindness. It is often given instinctively but but CTs behaved in a poor, ill mannered and unkind way. That behaviour does not lend itself to ‘kind’ responses.

ilovebrie8 · 04/08/2023 08:11

Bakery did not name the “celeb”.
CT has done herself no favours she comes across appallingly badly, very nasty and bitter. Shown her true colours.
All these Z listers wanting something for nothing it’s all wrong.

Jifmicroliquid · 04/08/2023 08:12

She’s barely even a celebrity. She’s just some woman who was in a soap and who has barely done anything since.
Disgraceful behaviour from her.

GenieGenealogy · 04/08/2023 08:13

Yes! Everyone very supportive of the small businesses who call out cheeky fuckery and say that actually, they are not prepared to work free of charge.

This woman has an over-inflated idea of her own fame/importance. She is just one of dozens and dozens of former soap actors who have struggled to find decent acting work after leaving their soap. She did Strictly a couple of years ago and wasn't very good. And that's it.

Champagne tastes on a lemonade budget - and wants other people to fund her wannabe celeb lifestyle which she's not earning enough to pay for herself. Why should ANYONE be supportive of that?

Rockschooldropout · 03/08/2023 22:05

I saw the bakers post and applaud her .. in the events industry this seems commonplace and beggars belief to expect skilled people to work for free . Catherine s response was below the belt and unpleasant. I doubt very much that the baker needs any kind of publicity .
I work in events and have worked for high profile clients , but was contacted by a tv programme Real Housewives of Cheshire in 2016 to provide my services in return for “exposure” and responded to them with a similiar email … not surprisingly I didn’t get a response back !
You can die of exposure 🤣

This is brilliant 🤝🏻

ilovebrie8 · 04/08/2023 08:17

@GenieGenealogy spot on!! That video clip shows her as a v nasty piece of work …who supports that behaviour …no one !

Apparently, the royal family are one of the worst of all for filling their boots with freebies. Obviously, they don't ask in person; to be fair, maybe their Smitherses don't actually have to explicitly ask - but it seems to be the accepted thing that the people who are in an infinitely better position to be able to pay for supplied goods, without even noticing the money gone, are given them free; whilst the ordinary Joes and Josephines have to save up and pay full price.

Actually, thinking about it now, I wonder if the 'royal supplier' scheme is effectively jut one great big grift that casts enormous shade on the likes of CT? Might it be the case that being allowed to print the royal endorsement and coat of arms on your product is potentially 'smoothed' by your insisting on supplying said goods completely free of charge?!

That is completely untrue. They return gifts.

Flapjacker48 · 04/08/2023 08:19

What on earth is a "Camp as tits" theme anyway?

Figgygal · 04/08/2023 08:20

All I took away from her response video was how different she looked, really gaunt hope she's OK

Gnomegnomegnome · 04/08/2023 08:21

They both got exposure so job done really. I had no idea who either were until reading this. And now I really want cake.

eish · 04/08/2023 08:25

I think there is a difference between being given freebies for exposure (eg me as a small business / designer sending someone famous an item I have made for exposure) to just asking for stuff. I used to work for a magazine and we were always sent free clothing etc as they wanted exposure. This is where the lines have blurred. The bakery had no need for exposure, they are clearly amazing at what they do and therefore the request was insulting. And the way in which it is written is as if it is an opportunity that they should be grateful for.

Gladyys · 04/08/2023 08:26

That screechy clip was just awful, as were the Barlow glasses.

All she had to do was say 'I apologise for any offence caused there has been a misunderstanding'.

She's fanned the flames and made herself look an absolute tit.

LaMarschallin · 04/08/2023 08:31

Jifmicroliquid · 04/08/2023 08:12

Disgraceful behaviour from her.

I thought this too.
At least Rebecca Severs can be described as "the cake lady" because she makes beautiful cakes.
CT was lucky not to be described as "the unemployed ex-soap actress"; calling her a "celeb" was extremely flattering.

TidyDancer · 04/08/2023 08:31

Yeah the response video was awful. She's either getting no advice or bad advice in a PR sense. It's hard to imagine her being able to come up with a worse way of responding tbh. So rude.

What's she actually done since Corrie? Reality shows? I can't understand why someone like her would generate any publicity for a small business anyway. All seems quite bizarre.

VisionsOfSplendour · 04/08/2023 08:32

KPops22 · 04/08/2023 07:49

While I get what you are saying so many of her posts are about losing weight so it is inevitable that this would happen with a cake story. How many times have we heard the she used to be fat and look at her now stories?

I don't know her but did wonder if she had some kind of weird filter on her video, if she's a weight loss influencer she may have gone a tad too far.

Whiskeypowers · 04/08/2023 08:34

She looks very unwell in that car crash of a post.

SunnyCornishCove · 04/08/2023 08:36

I don't support freebies like this, but I don't think the bakery displayed the best professionalism at all. They must have known the celebrity name would come out. All the passive aggression from both sides - really unsavoury.

GenieGenealogy · 04/08/2023 08:40

According to IMDB, she was in Coronation Street between 2006 and 2018 which is a fair lump of time, to be fair.

Since then she was in 6 episodes of "Scarborough" with Jason Manford which passed me by completely, obviously not successful as they only made 6 episodes. 5 episodes of a police thing called "Viewpoint" which again was a bit of a disaster as the final episode was not shown after the lead actor was accused of harassment. One episode of that awful thing with Amanda Holden and her "nan". Guest appearance on another police show in one episode.

And then the usual celebrity stuff like The Weakest Link, Cooking with the Stars, Loose Women, Strictly, This Morning.

She has probably looked at other former Coronation actors like Suranne Jones who has gone on to headline major drama shows like Dr Foster, Vigil, Gentleman Jack and thinks that she is evert bit deserving of the same level of fame. But as I said before there are dozens and dozens of ex-soap stars.

Those sunglasses look absolutely ridiculous on her too.

I genuinely thought Deirdre Barlow had come back to life.

LaMarschallin · 04/08/2023 08:49

Let's hope the sunglasses weren't a freebie that she was wearing to influence people on the "socials" to buy, then.

CherryMaDeara · 04/08/2023 08:53

It makes me wonder how many small businesses are falling for these vague offers of exposure in return for goods and services, I hope not many. Hate to think of people being exploited.

grass321 · 04/08/2023 08:56

What happened to ‘be kind’.

Hopefully it died a death. Why? Because it was principally used to shut down and minimise women's opinions. I hate the term Karen just as much.

Since when was having an opinion not allowed? If I was an influencer (making a lot of money from flogging products to my sheep), I'd expect some people not to like me. That's absolutely fine and comes with the job.

I particularly hate be kind used on Facebook. If you don't agree with what I've posted, I'm very happy to hear your opinions and reasons. That's how a rational debate works. I refuse to be told to be kind because I have posted a slightly critical (and polite) opinion of a public person.

PS I hate be kind just in case it wasn't clear....
