Topless abroad . Yes or no

Just after everyone's opinions. I'm on an all inclusive holiday . Nothing flash . European destination. Hot sunny . 3*. Would you feel offended if a female sunbathes topless at the pool? Just for context I have done , but put bikini top on to go in pool and her drinks . It's literally just going topless when laying on sunbed . More context age range is babies up to 70+ . Lots of different shapes and weights of people . Lots of bellies make and female and lots of big boobs on men. Like I say this is just for context . Just interested in people's opinions. I'm with my husband on holiday .

i agree though if you’re by the pool with a load of juvenile blokes I wouldn’t. It’s a case of reading the room really. And yeah maybe run the sun cream in discreetly. I was amazed in Greece in my 20s how comfortable all the young people were with being topless in mixed groups. Just sitting around chatting in - now -one batting an eyelid or ogling. The sexual part of it is cultural I think.

I take the view that where it would be acceptable for a man to be without a top, it should be acceptable for a woman. Which probably means men covering up more.

It is much rarer, and I think camera phones are the main reason.

And if you think some guys on their balconies won't zoom in and take a pic for the wank bank, you're a bit naive.

Just highlighting the fact as it's not a one size/sex only type of place . All shapes all sizes, male,female , those who appear not to conform to a sex,straight, lesbian, gay , families with kids, couples without kids . Everyone here

What on earth are you on about? First, I'd usually apply cream before going out to sunbathe, I don't do it on the beach. Secondly, usually you sit or lie so your breasts aren't highly visible. Third, is it really more arousing to men than a thong is? I saw loads of them on holiday. On beaches in European country where I was raised it's perfectly normal for women of all ages to go topless, trust me most of those are not particularly arousing sights (I'm sure mine would not be either). Fourth, I really don't care if my husband finds other women arousing. I'd mind if he tried to have sex with them, but I don't care if he notices them. And finally, even if I did care, I don't think that it's women's job to make sure they never are accidentally sexy, in case it attracts male attention and pisses off another woman. My body is my body.

And I'm someone who just said I wouldn't get my kit off at the pool!

I'm American so definitely NOT the norm here. In fact it's illegal in many places or restricted to so-called 'nude beaches'.

But if I'm in a place where it's accepted behaviour, it wouldn't bother me if others did it. I wouldn't do it at my age. But when 'in my prime' I have done in places it was the norm.

Nowadays I wouldn't because people have access to cameras 24/7. You could be loaded onto any amount of porn sites within minutes.

Actually I put the cream on my hand and then rubbed it on under the cup before I removed it as I specifically didn't want to look like i was being provocative

In my twenties I had friends who lay tanning in the sun. Using oil sometimes. We are now in our fifties. The ‘decolettage’ area now shows the sun damage big time 😳 No Botox for that unfortunately.

People are crazy about tanning. Sun tan is sun damage. I thought folk knew better these days. My teens and their friends are super diligent about using sun cream and actively avoid the hottest sun.

I don't think you should if there are teenage boys there but I don't know why. I just think that if I was with my teenage step sons, I would find it embarassing if there were topless women there.

I wouldn’t be offended. I think it’s a foolish thing to do these days, when you don’t know who is taking photos and where they might end up, unless you’d be fine with all your colleagues/customers/neighbours/relatives seeing them.

This is my stance.

The only time I did flinch was when I was about 18-19 and I was going over to my then-boyfriends house. He got delayed on the way home from work. His mum and gran were in, poured me a wine and we headed to the garden. Where they proceeded to strip down to just bikini bottoms.

So you just want to sunbathe topless so you don’t get lines? 🤔 If you want to do it it’s up to you, but I’d rather go bottomless myself.

That's ridiculous. You are suggesting women should not be able to sunbathe topless for fear of embarrassing others.

How about letting people do what they want to do (as long as it's legal)? Other women shouldn't have to monitor what they wear or don't wear for fear of embarrassing you.

Interested to see etiquette seems to have changed in the past couple of decades. In my younger years I never thought twice about it.

Now, not a chance. Aside from privacy reasons being very different today, I believe attitudes to women have taken a significant step backward in that time.

Nah, fine. I'm old and saggy. Still would, and did when younger. A beach / poolside / German public park / yacht deck is not a beauty contest or a sex show. Bodies are just people, and those who want an even suntan expose their skin.

Nah, not in my experience. It's always women with cracking figures. Plus, I dont care anyway. Love seeing body confident women.

And of course all of the women on MN, who said topless is fine, would just love it, if the Op rubbed in this cream, whilst sitting next to their DH.

Unless seriously insecure, why would they care?

I'm sure most people's DHs could contain themselves from staring, taking surreptitious images and trying to leap on top of said woman.
