To take all the reduced meat?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:37

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

But if they can't avail of offers because she's taken them all? What then? It's a bit of a nothing argument now, i think she was cheeky, and more cheeky again to moan about it but it's my opinion. You feel differently.

That's not her concern. You yourself said other people's shopping habits and budgets aren't your concern, this is no different.

Pasta and pesto is a fine meal.

roses321 · 04/08/2023 12:45

Yes I think it was selfish because there were other people waiting and you took everything. You posted here because you obviously subconsciously knew it was selfish otherwise you wouldn't have asked. There was some part of you that knew it wasn't the right thing to do.

If you have £200 to last the month then think about what other things you could eat. Massive packs of chicken thighs are pretty cheap for a start. Canned goods like beans/legumes are pretty good fillers, couscous is pretty cheap.

There is no need to go and just take all the reduced bargains that others are waiting for. I agree with the person who said that this kind of attitude ruins society completely.

It reminds me of zombie apocalypse films where there are always people who just take everything and leave none for others. Some people may not have £200 a month even to spare.

Not to mention, and this is going to piss people off but if you can't afford to feed your kids don't f'ing have them.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 12:48

@roses321 oh well with your last sentence "if you can't afford kids don't have them"
Why should I worry about other people feeding their children if that's the case ?
I mean if they can't afford kids why have them?
But then again I'm not silly enough to think or even believe that statement
Nobody has a clue about anyone's financial issues -not everyone has financial issues from the day they were born
Life happens and money issues happen
FYI the reason I am struggling slightly (not that it's anyone's business) is because I'm looking after my mum who has stage 4 breast cancer and I've had to drop my hours...

Of course not, but look at this rationally. Other people could also be depending on deals. Could be. I don't know, you don't know, OP doesn't know. The 'blitz' comment was referring to the spirit of people looking out for each other, minding each other etc. I'm not saying people should go doing their shopping thinking about the blitz, but imo it's bad form to take all the deals. Especially when you're stocking up for a month. I said earlier, so many are day to day or week to week.

What are you talking about?

Pasta and pesto is grand. Occasionally. It's not very nutritious though. You wouldn't want to be feeding it to your kids all the time. I brought it up as someone asked what i'd have if i couldn't get what i was looking for.

As a one off on the day the OP goes shopping which may not even be your shopping day. See. Compromise is a beautiful thing.

You've talked yourself in circles the entire thread.

Lou670 · 04/08/2023 12:57

@ballipp If the people were stood in the wrong place (which I don't believe and was there temporary until the butcher had the chance to move the tub) then why did you not do the kind thing of informing the other shoppers where the reduced meat was? That way you all had an equal chance of picking a reduced item(s). What you did was rather sly and you obviously got a kick out of being observant enough and leaving the other shoppers stood there unaware. Nasty.

If you don't want peoples opinions don't post them on the internet - pretty basic really? I'm sorry about your mum I really am, but that isn't an excuse to just be selfish.

Do you think you're the only one experiencing hardship or something? You asked what people thought, I've told you what I think and so have many others. I understand what you're saying about financial issues coming up and that's a fair enough point to be honest so yup, ok I agree with you about that.

However again, not an excuse to just be selfish - and if you are going to be selfish then just don't post on the internet about it???

In the end if it's every man for themselves as you seem to believe then let's stop the benefits system and you can take as much as you want from the bargain meat section but that means other people can do the same!! Are you ok with that? If you are please feel free to crack on!

ballipp · 04/08/2023 13:11

@roses321 but you can ,the items are there for whoever to buy.
There is no limit
It's right place right time
If someone else had spotted him and not me then I'm sure they would also take what they needed.

Really selfish and greedy. I get irritated by the vultures circling the poor staff member at reduction time.

And I am getting irritated with language being used like this about people, yes PEOPLE. They are not vultures. How can language be used like that to describe people who may have to be a bit forceful in order to ensure they or their children may eat that night? I would never call people that, who knows how desperate they may be!

limitedperiodonly · 04/08/2023 13:49

Snaffling all the things at the reduced counter is not the only attitude that ruins society completely @roses321 Grin

thedancingbear · 04/08/2023 13:59

I don’t understand why the OP expects people to care about her circumstances, when she doesn’t give a hoot about anyone else’s!

Icycloud · 04/08/2023 14:00

DrSbaitso · 04/08/2023 10:43

That was different though. There was literally no toilet roll, not simply no reduced toilet roll.

Yes because people like the op were buying it all to themselves

ballipp · 04/08/2023 14:09

@thedancingbear I don't need anyone to care about my circumstances
I also can't go around trying to second guess anyone else's either
"Oh best not take 2 chickens incase little Oliver has a fish allergy"
Or "best not take 2 packs of burgers incase a woman I don't even know exists wants to feed her kids burgers"
All I can do is try my best to look after my family
If that means taking 2 chickens then so be it ...

Little question for all the saints on here
A man stops you on the street and gives you £50,000
He says you can have the full £50,000 or £1,000 and he will share the rest with a bunch of strangers you don't know
You would take the £1,000 and walk away ?
I mean obviously you would as you aren't selfish .....

Or maybe Id take the full amount and make some hefty donations to people I knew could do with it.
Still not the same as you sniffling all the meat anyway.

My advice is stop arguing and continue as you are... you're not going to persuade me or others that you're not selfish, but if you're ok with it then get off here and carry on.

Or best not to ask AIBU

And then have a tantrum for two days because you’ve been told you are?

From an outsider's perspective, it really seems like you are. The long and the short of it, you asked a question, people answered, you didn't like a lot/ some of the answers. But if you go on aibu, the likleyhood is that you won't like all the answers, and getting hugely defensive won't do you any favours. Aibu is unforgiving that way.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 15:19

Every single one of your responses is defending your decision. Literally EVERYSINGLEONE.

If you don't like the answer, don't f'ing ask. Most think you're selfish. I think you're selfish and I think if you don't like other people passing judgement on your selfish behaviour then don't post on a public forum asking if others would do the same. The answer is mostly no they wouldn't because they aren't selfish.

You've had your answer so what exactly are you arguing for? Do you think you're going to persuade a bunch of people on the internet that they're wrong and that you're right? Haven't you got anything better to do? I mean if you're cutting your hours down and spending them on here moaning about your income perhaps you could spend them more productively!?
