To take all the reduced meat?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:37

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

Obviously I'm going to freeze it all
I didn't buy anything I couldn't freeze for a later date
That's a months worth of meat

Yeah, that’s unbelievably selfish.

dottiedodah · 03/08/2023 15:53

I think thats mean TBH. In Lockdown we were told to leave enough for others .You wouldnt like it if they had done the same! Pleas think of others in future!

VeridicalVagabond · 03/08/2023 15:53

Nah, very selfish and greedy of you, and all too common an attitude sadly. In my local supermarket they've had to put actual barriers up around the employees while they're reducing stuff and limit it to 1 per customer because of all the selfish vultures leaping to seize as much as they can before the employees have even finished putting the food out.

Bet you hoarded bog roll during COVID too.

CoachBeardsJane · 03/08/2023 15:53

You are so selfish

BrutusMcDogface · 03/08/2023 15:53

I actually stay away from the big crowd hovering round the poor Morrison’s worker who is marking stuff down. I saw a woman with a trolley full of yellow stickered stuff, bring quite aggressive. She was on the phone to someone complaining about a lack of something or other being marked down, and wondering why the guy with the yellow sticker gun was taking so long. Fuck that.

YourNameGoesHere · 03/08/2023 15:53

You asked and everyone has answered. It was very greedy and selfish.

You said you only do it once a month, maybe some of those patiently waiting also only go once a month, but I get the sense you don't actually mind because you got what you wanted and therefore who cares about the others. Hmm

Iwantmyoldnameback · 03/08/2023 15:54

Are you desperately hard up? If so no I don't blame you but if not I'm afraid I think you are selfish and thoughtless. Some of those others may only be able to afford meat if it's reduced.

Probably op

BrutusMcDogface · 03/08/2023 15:54

Oh and congratulations on your purchases but yes, you were selfish.

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:42

There was plenty of fish left and lamb etc
I just took things I knew we would eat

So you didn't actually take it all, like your thread title said?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/08/2023 15:56

Going once a month and taking it all is shitty behaviour. Nipping in once a week as you pass and picking up a couple of things to add to your freezer is much more polite.

How would you feel if you'd gone specifically and someone walked up to that tub before you and tipped it all into their trolley?

CloverHilla · 03/08/2023 15:57

You should have waited for them to be put out on the shelf like everyone else.
The greediness and inconsideration of people these days astounds me.

itsmyp4rty · 03/08/2023 15:57

I wouldn't have done it. I'd have waited until it was all put out so everyone had fair chance, especially as you had several bargains already. But if you're currently really struggling then I understand putting yourself and kids first, if you just wanted cheap food then you're selfish.

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:58

The butcher wasn't putting it out down the bottom fridge
He had left it on the butchers counter
I asked if I could take some and he said help yourself

I never take everything.

Lochroy · 03/08/2023 16:01

I think that's pretty mean. I understand you'll freeze it and it will last a month, but some it would have been kind to leave more. (Granted the next person along might do the same, but that's out of your control).

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 03/08/2023 16:02

I think that sounds pretty selfish to be honest. That’s a lot to take when other people are waiting. I like a yellow sticker as much as anyone but I pop in every few days and just take a couple of bits as others have said.

I went to M&S the other day to see if there were any bargains and they were just putting out the reduced bits. 2 ladies were there just taking everything as soon it was placed on the shelf. It’s a BP store so not loads there but even though there were others waiting they just took everything. It was infuriating.

BarbedButterfly · 03/08/2023 16:03

I think this was really selfish

You can continue to justify it all you like but it was selfish and unkind, you knew there were others waiting and yet only thought about yourself.

NewNovember · 03/08/2023 16:04

It was horrible why would you do that?

SadieOlsen · 03/08/2023 16:04

I would left some for others. I can't believe you actually did that. 😔

Chickenkeev · 03/08/2023 16:04

While it's convenient and possible for you to do that, there may have people depending on that food. I think it's a bit mean.

holjam · 03/08/2023 16:04

I think the fact you're asking if you were being unreasonable demonstrates that you know this isn't/wasn't ok.
If I saw 5 other people waiting I'd certainly have left some.

VictoriaVenkman · 03/08/2023 16:06

How hard up are you OP?
