To take all the reduced meat?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:37

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

@TeaAndTattoos for the 100th time-I didn't clear any shelves
Stopping changing the narrative
I left plenty for others
I took the meat we liked

You took all the reduced meat, you say so in your title.

it’s you that’s changing the narrative.

If this was a post about trying to help people to save money on food you would’ve just made a post about the shops that reduce their food and what times and left out the fact that you cleared the shelves of food and left nothing for anyone else. No one has said that you can’t get reduced price but Jesus Christ there really is no need to clear the shelves leaving nothing for anyone else. You just wanted to gloat and then threw a hissy fit including saying you would ask to get the post deleted because it wasn’t going your way. You can try and wrap it up however you like to make yourself feel better about your actions but at the end of the day it was still selfish, greedy and entitled.

I agree. OP sounds all those things. Even if she is poor, there is zilch understanding for her fellow poor people. So no sympathy. A society is everyone together, if we all take a selfish attitude there is no society. When society breaks down, there is madness and it's good for nobody.

Sceptre86 · 04/08/2023 10:09

I would have left some. I saw some reduced rubicon mango and margherita pizzas in our local co-op. I took two cartons of the drink and two pizzas. I know my son will happily get through them but it's nice I think to let other people have the chance too.

You keep telling yourself whatever it takes to make you feel better about what you did because your need is greater than anyone else’s right.

@Chickenkeev this isn't about me or anyone else being more entitled than anyone.
I was there and there were things we liked so I took those bits.
Plenty of other bits were left
It's not a case of buying for the sake of it-
If I could save £40 plus why wouldn't I ?
Who's to say anyone else would of wanted the same bits I bought ?

Why wouldn't you? Because other people have more consideration for others and aren't as selfish.

Thank you my thoughts exactly we are all taught to think of others and not be selfish because you don’t know what struggles others are going through and then you get people like op who only wants to think of herself and what she needs and stuff everyone else and it’s that kind of attitude that makes things harder for people to get their fair share.

Plumbear2 · 04/08/2023 10:18

MeinKraft · 04/08/2023 09:24

To be fair though, the OP now won't be buying up any reduced items for a couple of weeks so that leaves more for other people on other days.

She won't but other people will. Saying she won't buy any for a couple of weeks does not make it ok.

I think especially so atm. Everyone is struggling or cutting back, but if the people with money are cutting back, imagine the struggles of poor people! The thoughts of someone clearing out the supermarket ahead of poor people are not good.

Icycloud · 04/08/2023 10:27

Everyone wanted all the toilet roll etc during the pandemic doesn’t mean you should be buying it all to yourself

That was different though. There was literally no toilet roll, not simply no reduced toilet roll.

Exactly and you can feel the sense of entitlement coming from all of her posts she really doesn’t care about anyone else because if she did she wouldn’t have jumped in there and bought everything before anyone who was waiting had a chance to look and she doesn’t know if there was someone there that has a fish allergy or a child that will only eat certain things and op took it without a second thought for anyone else. I’m amazed at the fact that op really can’t see the wrong in what she did.

Lou670 · 04/08/2023 10:49

@ballipp Why are you continuing to try and justify your actions. I thought that you were having this post pulled? Apart from one or two people on here, noone agrees with what you did. You asked 'would you have done the same?' You have got your answers and most people would not have. There must have been an element of doubt in your mind to raise the question in the first place? You are obviously happy with your decision, so enjoy all the meat that you snatched before it was even placed where it should have been. I feel sorry for the staff to be honest. They cannot even place the reduced products where they should be as vultures like you are already swarming.

DrSbaitso · 04/08/2023 10:50

Would it have been the same if OP had bought the last of anything else that was on sale, but at full price?

Yes. Asda limit their just essentials range to 3 items per product to stop people taking the piss. They should do the same for price reduced products.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 10:58

@TeaAndTattoos have you actually heard yourself ? Child with fish allergy etc etc ?
You are just making up scenarios now it's ridiculous

Even without an allergy, it very much smacks of 'let them eat cake' doesn't it? I'm alright Jack etc. As i said above, without society, we are very much alone. We never know when, where and from whom we might need help, so we should always try and consider others, even in these seemingly small interactions.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 11:00

@Chickenkeev where does it end?
Last cream cake in a cafe-best not buy it incase someone else comes along
Last seat On a plane -oh il not book that incase someone is flying to a funeral
You can make up scenarios till your hearts content but the fact of the matter is -people can make their own decisions on what they deem "selfish -not selfish"
As you have ...

I only go once every month to stock up
I'm not sure anyone else would of left anything

Well you asked the question and you don't like the answer.

You think you're right. Grand. I don't agree with you. Also grand. But why ask for opinions then? YABU, massively so, in my opinion. But you don't care for my opinion, so don't get annoyed when i give it, after you having actively asking for it.

Yes of course if it's the last cream cake of course you can buy it. But when you have lots of people waiting for the reduced meat and then buy it all yourself yes that's selfish . The two things are not comparable.

MissFancyDay · 04/08/2023 11:10

This is getting ridiculous. There was reduced food, a poor person (op) took enough so that she didn't have to worry about feeding her family properly for at least a month, therefore leaving it all for other people on all the other days. It's hardly the crime of the century.

Kids going to bed hungry because of Op is nonsense.

It's really not. Some people are day to day. I have no car so our shops are every couple of days. The reason I have no car is that i can neither afford lessons, nor a car, nor insurance. So food shopping is only a limited amount. I can't afford a massive weekly shop to be delivered, i have to keep the cash in case of something unexpected. The OP was doing a humble brag and it back fired. For very good reason.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 11:22

I have £200 a month for food and everything else
So say £40 a week for a family of 4
Leaving £40 for anything else
Yet I'm selfish for getting reduced bits that massively help us
I couldn't understand if I had money coming out of my ears ....
