To take all the reduced meat?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:37

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

@Chickenkeev I have £40 a week for a family of 4 for food
Yet I'm selfish for stocking up whilst I had the chance
If your in a similar boat money wise maybe you should try and do the same

You know others were waiting. You know lots of uk households are struggling with the cost of living crisis.

Disgusting selfish behaviour

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 11:19

It's really not. Some people are day to day. I have no car so our shops are every couple of days. The reason I have no car is that i can neither afford lessons, nor a car, nor insurance. So food shopping is only a limited amount. I can't afford a massive weekly shop to be delivered, i have to keep the cash in case of something unexpected. The OP was doing a humble brag and it back fired. For very good reason.

Your shopping habits are not OPs concern. She's struggling and shops in a manner that suits her family. She is now not going to be needing any meat for some weeks to come so you can continue to shop every other day unaffected.

I have £200 a month for food and everything else
So say £40 a week for a family of 4
Leaving £40 for anything else
Yet I'm selfish for getting reduced bits that massively help us
I couldn't understand if I had money coming out of my ears ....

Yes, but are also taking the reduced food away from other people in need. Can you really not see that?

Grapewrath · 04/08/2023 11:26

There were people waiting so clearly in need. I would have left some for others knowing how hard life is for everyone at the minute

MissFancyDay · 04/08/2023 11:28

Yes no one is allowed to be happy in these austere times are they. If people go every day and some other needy person has nabbed all the good stuff that particular day then the kids will have to have cheap sausages and hope that there is steak and kebabs the next day. No one is going to bed hungry because of the Op.

Then why ask the question?

You asked us 'Was I being unreasonable to have taken all the meat?' The majority have said yes you were unreasonable. You now keep coming back and trying to justify and minimise what you did.

BarnacleBeasley · 04/08/2023 11:29

No-one is saying you're selfish for buying reduced items. They are saying you are selfish for taking ALL of several of the items, when you could see that other people were also waiting. To me you also sound more selfish than some of the posters agreeing with you, the ones who are just ignorant and assume that the other people probably don't need it. You know that there are people who need it, because you are one of them. You also know that there are people who can't come every day because of the cost of the bus fare, because you are one of them. What if you had spent the £4.50 to get there and someone else had done what you did? Whereas you could still have made it worth your while by taking a bit less and leaving some for others.

@TeaAndTattoos for the 100th time-I didn't clear any shelves
Stopping changing the narrative
I left plenty for others
I took the meat we liked

Your title is misleading so it's not surprising that you are getting responses describing you as greedy and selfish.

You later saying that you left plenty of reduced items for others is the complete opposite of what your title says, because you didn't take it all.

Anyway, I would not have done the same because we don't need a month's worth of meat in one shop. 3 out of 4 us are vegetarian anyway. And no, I wouldn't buy a month's worth or all the tofu or vege burgers if they were reduced. The opportunity will come again for finding bargains.

Well, no, not if she's taken everything!

But if you're shopping every other day and don't go the day the OP has done her shopping you're unaffected.

If you go in on a day where the butcher doesn't have much to put out what do you do? Complain about the selfish butcher for not thinking of putting more meat out?

'To take all the reduced meat'. That's what you asked. And you got your answer. You can keep whining and whatever but yes, you are still unreasonable. I can't understand why you thought people would agree with you. And as i said before, you can count yourself lucky that you have enough money to do what you did, so many do not.

TeaAndTattoos · 04/08/2023 11:39

ballipp · 04/08/2023 10:58

@TeaAndTattoos have you actually heard yourself ? Child with fish allergy etc etc ?
You are just making up scenarios now it's ridiculous

You do realise that allergies are a thing and kids have allergy’s. You just don’t like having it pointed out that what you did is wrong. You disagree fine but you wouldn’t have felt the need to even ask if anyone else would do it if you really thought that you had done the right thing. You were fully expecting people to be on your side and tell that what you did was absolutely fine to make yourself feel better about doing it but it’s not and your not willing to accept that it was wrong because for some reason your against the idea of admitting that you didn’t do the right thing and try and defend your actions as much as you like because it was selfish of you and you know it.

With all due respect, how the fuck should i know when OP is doing her shopping? And why should i plan my life around her? Crazy.

Yet here you are having an online slanging match because the OP has taken the same stance.

Lou670 · 04/08/2023 11:43

@TeaAndTattoos She even admitted in the post following her first one 'yes I was selfish' God knows why she needs justification to make her feel better when she has self labelled herself 'selfish'. 🙄

Glitterblue · 04/08/2023 11:43

Really selfish and greedy. I get irritated by the vultures circling the poor staff member at reduction time.

TeaAndTattoos · 04/08/2023 11:44

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 10:58

Even without an allergy, it very much smacks of 'let them eat cake' doesn't it? I'm alright Jack etc. As i said above, without society, we are very much alone. We never know when, where and from whom we might need help, so we should always try and consider others, even in these seemingly small interactions.

It really does and it’s that attitude that makes it so difficult for people to get what they need because the person before them decided that only they matter and everyone else can just starve.

Err, it's entirely different. I can only get enough for a family of three for two or three days. So certainly not grabbing all the cut price stuff. There is no comparison at all.

It's not though, you can spin it whatever way you like but it's not. Her household management means she can only do shopping once a month.

Starve...you need a lie down. They are in Morrisons, this is not the only food up for grabs!!

This is the posh meat bargains!

Andifeelheavymetal · 04/08/2023 11:48

And what do you do when the cut price fridge is literally just inedible shit or cream cakes or blocks of butter as it often is? It's no different

Exactly she knew before she hit post that what she had done was selfish but she used this post as an attempt to make herself feel better about what she did because she really thought people would be out in force to agree with her and say oh yeah I do the same thing but that’s not what happened and now she’s moaning because no one is telling her how brilliant she is for taking everything.

No. She has decided she is entitled to all the cheaper stuff above and beyond others. And she thinks people should then come on here and slag them off. They were doing the same as her, but she feels entitled to the goods. And on top of that wanted a pat on the back on here for her cunning and guile.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 11:54

@Chickenkeev what are you talking about?
I don't think I'm more entitled to anything more than anyone
I seen meat that I needed to feed my family and bought it
All the rest of this stuff is just made up none sense
