To take all the reduced meat?

ballipp · 03/08/2023 15:37

So last night around 6pm I went to the supermarket and specifically went for the 90% off bargains
I went to the main reduced fridge (after waiting for 15 mins for them to reduce ) and got 2 packs of roast potatoes 33p each ,3 packs of bbq chicken legs for 46p each
pork kebabs for 44p each
Then normally 15 mins later they bring down the reduced meat that day.
There was about 5 people waiting around and I seen the butcher fill his green tub up with the meat and leave it on the counter
So I walk up (everyone was just waiting by the reduced fridge and didn't see what he had done )
I walk up and got 2 steaks 59p each
A beef joint for £1.03p
A pork joint for 43p
Two chickens 38p each and 4 packs of burgers 26p each.
Would you have done the same ?
Or left some for someone else
My freezer is now full for the month and that came to well under £6/£7

If I hadn't of bought it
We would of made do with whatever we could get
I wouldn't of cried over it ...
It is what it is

No. She has decided she is entitled to all the cheaper stuff above and beyond others. And she thinks people should then come on here and slag them off. They were doing the same as her, but she feels entitled to the goods. And on top of that wanted a pat on the back on here for her cunning and guile.

You're really quite angry about this aren't you.

If the meat on offer had been a solitary chicken, a pack of burgers and a pack of chops and she had come on and said the same thing with the same budget and same shopping requirements would be quite so riled up?

Just like P&C parking, the supermarkets don't do yellow stickers for altruistic purposes, it's literally to get shot of stock so they don't make a loss.

ballipp · 04/08/2023 11:54

@Chickenkeev what are you talking about?
I don't think I'm more entitled to anything more than anyone
I seen meat that I needed to feed my family and bought it
All the rest of this stuff is just made up none sense

You did not need enough for a month when other people were waiting. It's entitled AF. If that's what you feel you need to do, do it, but don't expect a pat on the back when you come on here to moan about the other customers being pissed off. Put youself in their shoes, would you be happy if the person ahead of you took all the food? Or left you with options you/your kids can't/won't eat? I'm sure you'd be delighted altogether 🙄

So what happens when there are no posh meat bargains that your kids like left on one of the many days that the op has not been. Do they go to bed hungry and starving?

I tried really hard not to, but this last one I am sad to say I could no longer sit on my hands.

MissFancyDay · 04/08/2023 12:21

If you want to call the op selfish, call them selfish, it's a matter of opinion. But stop with all the hungry children, empty tummies nonsense.

I don't tend to buy 'posh' options? I (my H) go every couple of days as i said. If there isn't the stuff there that we were planning for, we have a plan B. Usually pasta and pesto (it keeps). So before you go ringing SS, my daughter is well fed thanks very much. All of this is largely irrelevant to the original question though, which was is OP selfish/greedy to grab all the reduced meat ahead of everyone else. I still think she was. And i'm not for turning in all likelihood at this stage.

The war refs. My point was that you were rude about the WWs. It was seperate from the chickens. But tbh i find food very expensive now, it's not acceptable. This post reads very well...

In what way was I rude? I pointed out the world wars covered the world, or most of it. The clue is in the title. My parents and other older relations were involved in them. Half of them were Irish or of Irish descent.

I've no idea why you then mentioned the wartime or Blitz spirit or whatever, in Britain or otherwise and pointed out the experience of my mum, who lived through it that not everyone signed up to it. It's largely a myth. Some people behave well, some people behave badly in any situation, not just wartime - there are no national borders.

I still can't understand what it has to do with cheap food. As long as you buy what you can use and leave what you can't and don't push and shove and kick, then I think you can do what you want. You don't. That's up to you.

But she's not selfish is she. She's buying affordable food to feed her family in a manner that works for her family.

The lack of meat for others is no different to going on a day where they don't put any out.

Well then chill. On the rare days the Op nabs all the meat do the pasta option, as can everyone else.

The blitz spirit would be the opposite of OP behaviour here. That's why i mentioned it. Everyone mucking in together. Whereas she's grabbing everything and then giving out that other people aren't thrilled about. It was a flippant comment but I feel like the grabbing a months worth of offers is a bit much. My opinion.

Andifeelheavymetal · 04/08/2023 12:28

But we aren't in a war.

CrazyHedgehogLover · 04/08/2023 12:29

How many times do people need to read the butcher wasn’t taking the meat to the bottom fridge? He put it on his counter and OP asked if she could take some, he said help yourself..

OP you’ve done nothing wrong, especially if the food is needed! Don’t feel bad about it, why would you potentially make your financial situation worse by leaving items for other people, not to mention who’s to say the meat would actually have all been bought anyway!

family comes first, plenty of supermarkets do reduced items, you only go once a month.. in your situation I would do the same!

Chickenkeev · 04/08/2023 12:33

Andifeelheavymetal · 04/08/2023 12:28

But we aren't in a war.

Of course not, but look at this rationally. Other people could also be depending on deals. Could be. I don't know, you don't know, OP doesn't know. The 'blitz' comment was referring to the spirit of people looking out for each other, minding each other etc. I'm not saying people should go doing their shopping thinking about the blitz, but imo it's bad form to take all the deals. Especially when you're stocking up for a month. I said earlier, so many are day to day or week to week.

Which has clearly had a detrimental effect on the OP if you read her posts about the family budget.

Balloonhearts · 04/08/2023 12:36

Really greedy I'd have been embarrassed to do that when others were clearly waiting in the correct place.

Those who shop daily or weekly will be fine because OP won't be there the rest of the month.

And probably everyone else behind her?

CrazyHedgehogLover · 04/08/2023 12:40

@Balloonhearts try reading the thread, they weren’t waiting in the correct place, they was at the fridge.. OP has stated the butcher doesn’t take the items to the fridge area he puts them on to his counter.. OP was in the correct place, not the other people!

this thread is disgusting! OP has quite clearly stated she only has around £40pw leftover each week for a family of four, yet people are actually belittling her for buying food for HER family to will need to eat!

++ other items were still leftover, people need to stop creating little scenarios in there heads! It’s pathetic OP is entitled to buy reduced meat fgs.

Andifeelheavymetal · 04/08/2023 12:37

But if they can't avail of offers because she's taken them all? What then? It's a bit of a nothing argument now, i think she was cheeky, and more cheeky again to moan about it but it's my opinion. You feel differently.

DrSbaitso · 04/08/2023 12:42

I can see both sides of this one, but something about the way OP is being held personally responsible for sick and starving children sits badly with me.
