It’s really cold yes

KvotheTheBloodless · 01/08/2023 17:24

Where do you live?

RunningFromInsanity · 01/08/2023 17:24

Depends what country.
But U.K., no absolutely not.

Chasingsquirrels · 01/08/2023 17:25

Depens where you are. But a thermostat or thermometer would be of more help than an anonymous Internet post.

WiddlinDiddlin · 01/08/2023 17:27

We have a couple of times over the last few weeks - the combination of warm and humid then cold has made the house unpleasantly sticky and damp, the only fix for that is sticking the heating on for an hour!

User5653218 · 01/08/2023 17:28

I turned the heating on today because the house felt damp. The towels still felt damp at lunchtime after our morning showers. It was only on for a couple of hours but the house feels better

Is it really that cold???

That's not the question, though, is it?
If you feel that they are cranking up the bills unnecessarily then give them notice before it gets any worse.

Zanatdy · 01/08/2023 17:30

It’s August. No heating needs to go on

KittyMcKitty · 01/08/2023 17:30

I guess it depends where you are - I’ve had the doors at the back of the house open all day and the washing in the line. (I’m in the SE).

BarbaraofSeville · 01/08/2023 17:31

Well it's not cold here today/this week, it's quite warm - Yorkshire.

The heating did come on by itself a couple of weeks ago but when I'd been round and closed some windows, it went off and hasn't come on again despite the weather being shite for July/August.

Is said lodger wearing a decent amount of clothes or did they go straight to the heating? I'd expect socks and slippers, long trousers and a hoodie or other warm top before putting on the heating tbh.

Whataretheodds · 01/08/2023 17:31

Obviously it depends what the temperature is where you are.

toomuchlaundry · 01/08/2023 17:31

Don’t think the weather knows it’s August in large parts of the UK!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/08/2023 17:31

Certainly not in London. Friends of mine elsewhere in the country report having put their heating on in the past few weeks.

However, it’s all very well to be cranking up the heating if you’re not paying. Lodgers should be considerate and think about what they’d do if they were paying for it, imo.

INeedAnotherName · 01/08/2023 17:32

Depends where you are. Been wearing only a t-shirt for weeks but today I've had to wear a hoodie as well. Definitely colder but not cold.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 01/08/2023 17:34

I put mine on when I got home from work yesterday and today because it felt chilli, I’m not feeling very well though (full of a cold) so that possibly doesn’t help.

MrsMarzetti · 01/08/2023 17:41

Her in SW Scotland it isn't cold but it is damp. Jeans have dried on the line today but the fires are lit to get rid of the dampness.

CFornot · 01/08/2023 17:43

What temperature is thee thermostat set at?

afishcalledbreanda · 01/08/2023 17:51

West Wales here. The washing has been on the line and dried and the back door has been open for most of the day. I'm wearing a singlet with a cotton shirt and have had bare feet all day. The thermostat was at 22C most of the day and has just dropped to 21.5C. No need for heating. Go and put some socks and a sweater on.

Augustus40 · 01/08/2023 17:52

Dried my washing out on the line this morning. Midlands here.

Aquamarine1029 · 01/08/2023 17:55

Put a locked cover on your thermostat, ASAP.

RainyWeekend · 01/08/2023 17:55

Your lodger put on the heating!!! The central heating????

What the Fuck!!!

It's your house! How come the lodger thinks it's ok to put the heating on? Are they a new lodger?

dcadmamagain · 01/08/2023 17:56

i think you need to establish boundaries with lodger. T think they should be putting heating on without your permission whatever the month!
have they just moved in?
where they there last winter? What did they do then?
i host foreign students and they ask for the heating to be put on in all weather as cold! I just point out they’re wearing shorts and tshirt and to maybe put more clothes on. They’re often used to heating being on 24/7 in parents homes!

SaltyCrisps · 01/08/2023 17:57

I'm in the North West and I'm currently sitting with my feet on a hot water bottle, wrapped in a blanket. I'd put the heating on were it not for the cost.

BatheInTheLight · 01/08/2023 17:57

Thermostat says 21 degrees. Haven't put the heating on since winter. As my Dad would have said, what do you think I am, made of money?! :-D

DinnaeFashYersel · 01/08/2023 17:58

RunningFromInsanity · 01/08/2023 17:24

Depends what country.
But U.K., no absolutely not.

In my part of the UK it was 8C the other day when I put the heating in for an hour.
