It's warm where I am, I had the fan on the other night. And during the winter I'd have to extremely limit the times I had it on due to rising costs, so there's no way I'm putting it on in August.

Ladyj84 · 01/08/2023 19:24

We always open window anytime of year bath or shower as fan does very little to take away steam so mould spots started in last house so at new we always have window open and no mould. And I am freezing today but I do have a health problem feel the cold badly

BlueKaftan · 01/08/2023 19:25

This ‘summer’ has been hugely uncomfortable for me so I’ve put the heating on a few times. Not everyone is the same.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 01/08/2023 19:25

We have no heating and minimal insulation and have the windows open every day.
Apparently it’s 14 degrees outside. I just put on a jumper and socks 😂saving the thermals for the winter.

Lifeomars · 01/08/2023 19:26

What? I'm in Nottingham, it's a bit wet, very dull and currently 18C, quite humid too, I was doing some ironing earlier and it was making me sweat. I can only afford to run my heating for about 2 hours a day in the depths of winter since the prices soared and I would never ever put it on in August no matter what. If I was really cold I'd get my trusty heated throw out. As for your lodger, make them pay if they want to put the heating on

SchoolQuestionnaire · 01/08/2023 19:35

I’ve been a bit cold today and I actually put the heating on in my office!! It’s been on at home since the weekend. That being said I am in the north and I do feel the cold more than most.

I think it’s a bit off to not open the bathroom window daily though. It must get so stuffy and damp in there.

fishonabicycle · 01/08/2023 19:37

We're in South East and don't actually have any heating at the moment - big house renovation. But no - it's not that cold!

West Wales here. The washing has been on the line and dried and the back door has been open for most of the day. I'm wearing a singlet with a cotton shirt and have had bare feet all day. The thermostat was at 22C most of the day and has just dropped to 21.5C. No need for heating. Go and put some socks and a sweater on.

Yeah meanwhile here it's 16c and has poured down all day
I've had slippers and a cardigan on

Twentypastfour · 01/08/2023 19:47

It’s definitely not warm and I’m wearing a jumper at home most of the time (South East)… if a) I wasn’t paying the bills and b) I didn’t give a shit about climate change maybe I’d pop the heating on every now and then but I am and I do so I would never dream of it.

I’m in NE Scotland just outside Aberdeen and it’s so hot I’ve sunburned today. If it’s 22° here in north Scotland it can’t be much colder elsewhere surely?!

It doesn't work like that though. Have a look at the weather forecasts. My sister lives near Glasgow. It's been no higher than 14° all day and raining/drizzling. She's always complaining how NE Scotland usually has better weather than she gets.

We don't open a bathroom window in winter at all. We have very good extractor fans that actually do the job better. The only time we open the big bathroom window is in the summer to get a through flow of air across our bedroom. We have had our share of damp houses and mouldy bathrooms so are constantly on the lookout for it, but no, it's fine.

Not that cold in the south east

Not everyone lives in the south East!

How is that any more offensive than someone telling you it's sunny and warm in Aberdeen, upthread? Not everyone lives there either.

I've just put the dehumidifier on because the air is damp. I've had a small electric heater on for the odd hour this week because it's been chilly.

A few miles down the road in Perthshire and it was pouring with rain this morning and 13 degrees. Heating on at work. Its a bit brighter now. To be honest, id just be thankful for a day without any rain.

MotherEarthisaTerf · 01/08/2023 20:03

It's really cold here, DH and I got the oodies back out from our winter cupboard. Its a particularly cold house too

LlynTegid · 01/08/2023 20:09

For some people in some parts of the UK, probably is.

TheChosenTwo · 01/08/2023 18:01

The room I’m in currently says it’s 22 degrees, windows are open and though it’s not what I would consider to be cold there’s definitely a dampness in the air.
my heating will click in if any room drops down to 20 at the moment and I’m not sure it’s done that yet.

Why would your heating come on at 20 degrees? That's warm?!

Put a locked cover on your thermostat, ASAP.

just stayed in a static home with a lock on the thermostat - which was set to come on at 20 degrees - we had to get them to unlock it in the end so we could set it at 10 degrees as we were roasting at night! But, get a lock installed over the thermostat is fine until they get a fan heater and put in their room....

popgoesthecat2 · 01/08/2023 20:18

It is not cold enough for heating, anywhere in the UK.

Even in north Scotland, the minimum temp at the moment is 11c at night and mid teens in the day. That is not cold enough for heating unless you are unwell.

I am a cold person and suffer in the winter, I have to wear fingerless gloves inside and three layers including thermals to feel anywhere near comfortable. But mid teen temps are not cold. You may not be able to wear vests and shorts, but it's hardly jumper weather either, maybe a cardigan. In 16-17c temps we have this week my house is still around 23c.

Mothermotherd · 01/08/2023 20:19

I’ve put the heating on once or twice this week. It’s been rainy and windy in the northwest and definitely chilly at times

It’s August. No heating needs to go on

In winter, I was heating the kitchen to 16 degrees when we were eating in there. The night before last while we were eating it was 14 degrees.

No heating needs to go on, we won’t die at 14 degrees, but most people wouldn’t find that comfortable
