The Mumsnet passive aggressive comment thread 😂

I was driving through a small cotswold village yesterday and there were a number of roadsigns that really reminded me of mumsnet. 😂

First there were several 30mph signs. A few hundred feet along was another sign saying 'It's still 30'. Next was 'Remember?' and then my favourite....'Had you forgotten?'

I've no issue as the fact they stayed in my memory likely means they better achieved their purpose than if they just went unnoticed, but the 'Had you forgotten?' really reminded me of the mumsnet classic 'Did you mean to be so rude?' 😂😂😂

I thought it'd be funny to have a thread to capture these mumsnetisms. The other common one I always see is 'doesn't sound like you like her very much' which I just encountered five mins ago on the thread where the OP is concerned her obese friend may not cope with the physical aspects of the job she's putting her forward for.

Hit me up with your favourites or show me your passive aggressive anger at my daring to mock this established mumsnet institution!

I just saw that 😂

Also just read that one and immediately thought of this thread 😂 the contempt for the poor OP for PARKING!!

WildUnchartedWaters · 02/08/2023 13:57

Watch out, there are spies in the camp reporting back to the threads referenced 🤣

Catlover100 · 02/08/2023 14:17

"OP - what did you want from your post. A hand hold??"

Maybe some sympathy? some empathy? God forbid some useful advice?

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 02/08/2023 13:52

It's a jammy dodger biscuit so it's posted to tell someone they're taking the biscuit (taking the piss/mick)

Ahh thank you so much 🤣🤣🤣 x

BrendaMcPherson · 02/08/2023 14:28

Cherchez la femme

arlequin · 02/08/2023 14:36

Are you very young?

temosmail · 02/08/2023 14:45

"Maybe you just don't understand how your heating works"

It's flipping zone controlled and on my phone as well as manual.

Maybe you don't understand how my heating works.

DrSbaitso · 02/08/2023 16:08

"Lighthearted" on a mean-spirited post that isn't even trying to be funny, as an attempt to deflect any criticism for it.

I didnt know that either.

I'm using that the next time my friend insists a jammy Dodger is a cake.

Yeah and then if you reply that it's not really lighthearted they get all huffy

ItsAliveItsElectric · 02/08/2023 16:59

"Just take in some ironing/get a second job/move house" when the OP has said she already has 3 jobs, can't move for her own reasons like it's that easy

IglesiasPiggl · 02/08/2023 17:08

Use your words.

Who the hell says that to anyone over the age of five?

Catlover100 · 02/08/2023 18:24

I haven't been on Mumsnet that long but, for those that have, has there been a change in attitude post-Covid?

I generally find there is a different, less kind atmosphere everywhere since the odd Covid years so I just wondered.

Use your words.

Who the hell says that to anyone over the age of five?

This is head-bangingly awful!!

midsomermurderess · 02/08/2023 21:44

'Use your words' is unforgivably patronising.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 02/08/2023 22:06

Are you a man, OP?

I used to think like you when I was very young.

Sux2buthen · 02/08/2023 22:11

Not passive aggressive at all, sorry but anyway:
My husband has been a little distracted. Not sure why
Google death grip and porn addiction

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 02/08/2023 22:13

And in 'other things that didn't happen'...

tt9 · 03/08/2023 04:08

just saw this on another thread "stop it! or I'll report you to the passive aggressive thread" said in response to someone who commented "it's not a biggie. is it?"

this feels like mumsnet inception ... mumception?

temosmail · 03/08/2023 10:11

@tt9 yes nothing worst than doing a AIBU and someone downplaying what you
Think is/isn't being unreasonable.

If a poster can't contribute to the thread other than gatekeeping, don't.

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/08/2023 11:45

You mean you moved your new partner in after only knowing him for 3 years?! No wonder your children are having ishooos Hmm

Newestname002 · 03/08/2023 14:46

As usual the first post after the OP nailed it. 🌹

pintery · 04/08/2023 08:09

From a current thread:
School holidays is it? Hmm

pintery · 05/08/2023 02:01

Just seen a good 'un:

"Oh - you're one of those mums"

midsomermurderess · 05/08/2023 11:02

It’s absolutely everywhere when you become alert to it. But for so many people on this site, whether it’s an issue with a family member, a neighbour, a colleague, passive aggression is the automatic response. It seems so hardwired that people probably don’t even know what they are doing. It’s simply how you interact with people.
