The Mumsnet passive aggressive comment thread 😂

I was driving through a small cotswold village yesterday and there were a number of roadsigns that really reminded me of mumsnet. 😂

First there were several 30mph signs. A few hundred feet along was another sign saying 'It's still 30'. Next was 'Remember?' and then my favourite....'Had you forgotten?'

I've no issue as the fact they stayed in my memory likely means they better achieved their purpose than if they just went unnoticed, but the 'Had you forgotten?' really reminded me of the mumsnet classic 'Did you mean to be so rude?' 😂😂😂

I thought it'd be funny to have a thread to capture these mumsnetisms. The other common one I always see is 'doesn't sound like you like her very much' which I just encountered five mins ago on the thread where the OP is concerned her obese friend may not cope with the physical aspects of the job she's putting her forward for.

Hit me up with your favourites or show me your passive aggressive anger at my daring to mock this established mumsnet institution!

You sound overly invested in the goings on in this village.
Were the speed signs there before you married dh?

D20 · 30/07/2023 16:29

You are just bitter OP

Did you just post this exact thread 2 days ago? I am sure I've read it before.

Yes ! But people still do this , post the exact same thread they did two weeks ago , expecting a different shift of MN'ers , why?

SGsling · 30/07/2023 16:31

This is a slight derail: years ago a poster had a long OP asking what passive aggressive meant. The first reply was “ if you don’t know, I’m not going to tell you”. Obviously loads of posts with 😂followed. Then the poor confused and angry OP came back saying “why are you being like that”

You sound like hard work.

Absolutely this

hecameoutroaring · 30/07/2023 16:32

On the negative celebrity posts, where anyone defending the celebrity is accused of being them...

Example OP: I really dislike Kim Kardashian.

Lots of posts agreeing, then one person saying, "I really like Kim Kardashian. I think she's great."

Then you get the "Hi Kim" or "Is that you, Kim?" replies, as if no-one can have a different opinion on a site with hundreds of users.

IglesiasPiggl · 30/07/2023 16:33

"Did you not notice the pub/school /whatever when you bought your house? " to excuse any kind of noise or anti social behaviour coming from it that's bothering the OP, as if there are no norms and limits to what one should put up with.

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 16:33

Cocklodger!

(tbf these creatures do exist and I know it's not a passive aggressive comment but it's such a mumsnet term).

OP posts:
wutheringkites · 30/07/2023 16:34

And what did they say when you told them x?

wutheringkites · 30/07/2023 16:35

What do you mean you brought something at the shop? I don't understand.

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 16:35

You do you.

OP posts:
JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 30/07/2023 16:35

What response were you expecting?

IglesiasPiggl · 30/07/2023 16:35

Another one on celebrity threads : "Never heard of them" as if that makes them intellectually superior. But it does have the perfect passive aggressive retort of "Scroll function not working today?"

Floatlikeafeather2 · 30/07/2023 16:36

Mine isn't a phrase but people who just cannot put themselves in someone else's shoes or imagine any sort of life that isn't exactly like theirs but still comment anyway, usually implying that theirs is the only way. That's really Mumsnet.

‘And what did they say when you talked to them about it?’ (Translation: I know you haven’t talked to them about it but this is a passive aggressive way of saying you should have before starting a thread about it).

Yes. I fucking detest this one. Every time someone posts it, I always think 'what a smug twat'.

MrsJellybee · 30/07/2023 16:37

‘Just here for the delete message’

’OP won’t be back’

TheCornflakeHotline · 30/07/2023 16:38

I asked a question on the Money Matters board and some arse replied lmgtfy - which I'm guessing meant let me google that for you Which I thought was pretty passive agressive ... but they did give me the answer.

My favourite was the 'cancel the direct debit'. Or was it a cheque?

OP had explained why she couldn't but 20 pages in people were still posting to cancel. Some posters were getting beside themselves and screaming RTFT, which was immediately being followed by another 'cancel the direct debit, OP'. 😂😂😂

It was "you NEED to cancel the cheque OP!"

The first cheeky fucker thread I remember. Oh the glorious times we've had!

(I'll admit I may have name changed and posted 'cancel the cheque' just to stir the pot. 😂😂😂).

Or are you autistic/have dementia?

Whataretalkingabout · 30/07/2023 16:41

Did you even bother to read the OP's original post?

( or something like that)

The first rule of misogyny is that women are responsible for men's mistakes.
