The Mumsnet passive aggressive comment thread 😂

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 16:16

I was driving through a small cotswold village yesterday and there were a number of roadsigns that really reminded me of mumsnet. 😂

First there were several 30mph signs. A few hundred feet along was another sign saying 'It's still 30'. Next was 'Remember?' and then my favourite....'Had you forgotten?'

I've no issue as the fact they stayed in my memory likely means they better achieved their purpose than if they just went unnoticed, but the 'Had you forgotten?' really reminded me of the mumsnet classic 'Did you mean to be so rude?' 😂😂😂

I thought it'd be funny to have a thread to capture these mumsnetisms. The other common one I always see is 'doesn't sound like you like her very much' which I just encountered five mins ago on the thread where the OP is concerned her obese friend may not cope with the physical aspects of the job she's putting her forward for.

Hit me up with your favourites or show me your passive aggressive anger at my daring to mock this established mumsnet institution!

Is this a serious post? Yes, YABU!

I can't stop seeing these now! There's one thread at the moment and the first page is like PA bingo. 😂

I have seen so many today including (more than once):

HTH

BrightGreenMoonBuggy · 01/08/2023 16:55

I see OP doesn’t like the answers to her question so has left the thread.

BrightGreenMoonBuggy · 01/08/2023 16:56

Are you the person who started this exact same thread two days ago? What new answers are you hoping for, OP?

Olive19741205 · 01/08/2023 17:45

You sound as if you're jealous OP. Why don't you take in some ironing, save up and move to the Cotswolds?

Is it the rental income one by any chance? 😂

daisychain01 · 01/08/2023 18:03

Oh Ffs OP, come on! You don't need us to interpret the COVID rules for you, why are you trying to play the system and do a work around. Suffer like the rest of us.

HermioneHerman · 01/08/2023 19:09

I sense a massive drip feed coming...what ELSE did the signs say, OP? 😏

DrSbaitso · 01/08/2023 19:16

"I am always baffled by..."

Something about the wording irritates the fuck out of me. They always say they are "always baffled by" something incredibly simple, like McDonald's, hot chocolate or Christmas pyjamas.

I mean, I get it, they're trying to imply that what they don't like is so egregiously wrong for whatever reason that it's a puzzle why anyone would like it, but really they're just saying they're incredibly stupid. It's just a crazy own goal.

And they're always baffled.

eggandonion · 01/08/2023 19:59

Santa Claus...do you mean Father Christmas?

DrSbaitso · 01/08/2023 20:01

Santa Claus...do you mean Father Christmas?

Didn't even know this was a thing. Is one term more middle class than the other?

eggandonion · 01/08/2023 20:14

Although used in Ireland where hes fondly knows as Santy a percentage of posters are horrified by it being an Americanism.

Americanism? Is it not from Sinterklaas?

DrSbaitso · 01/08/2023 20:17

Sorry, I don't mean to interrogate you. Just seems so funny!

Santa/Santy is v Irish. We'd never dream of saying father christmas.

Hufflemuff · 01/08/2023 20:51

'What's that going to achieve?"

'What's that going to achieve?"

I might be guilty of this one, but I never thought of it as PA. I think it's a very good question when considering a particular course of action, along with "what do you hope to achieve/what outcome do you want?" And then "what outcome is this action most likely to get?"

My favourite bafflements are the ones where it's clear the OP is in a different country with different customs and words but the Brit-centric posters can't get their heads around fairly simple things. I live in a different country (though am from the UK) and I'm careful not to confuse the posters with talk of celebrating Christmas on the 24th or school holidays that are different to English ones.

I know this one has probably already been mentioned (admittedly haven't rtft) but...

"You sound controlling."

Usually said to an OP who's established some sort of boundaries for herself in her relationships.

You have committed mumsnet sin 🤣

My favourite comment on mumsnet Is someone 36 pages in announcing the answer that was sorted on page 2

WildUnchartedWaters · 02/08/2023 00:58

BrightGreenMoonBuggy · 01/08/2023 16:55

I see OP doesn’t like the answers to her question so has left the thread.

Usually following a thread where posters have absolutely hammered the op and wonder why

WildUnchartedWaters · 02/08/2023 00:59

Threads where posters write incendiary comments which get ignored and then say something along the lines of
Oh so you cant answer my question

No, that's not why.

See also people that claim if someone has a different view to them "if you dont get it I cant make it any clearer/you are incoherent/it might be best to step away if you dont understand

No, they just disagree. Its allowed.

Another mumsnet faux pas....create and thread and not come back. 👀

In fairness....more than a few of those end up in red top online "news". Which is why I will wait and see if the OP comes back before replying to some threads as I dont want to contribute to lazy content creation.

JesusdroveaHonda · 02/08/2023 07:09

@WildUnchartedWaters I know, right?! 😂

This thread is so cathartic.

The other one I've seen a lot is "Netmums is that way, hunny."
