The Mumsnet passive aggressive comment thread 😂

I was driving through a small cotswold village yesterday and there were a number of roadsigns that really reminded me of mumsnet. 😂

First there were several 30mph signs. A few hundred feet along was another sign saying 'It's still 30'. Next was 'Remember?' and then my favourite....'Had you forgotten?'

I've no issue as the fact they stayed in my memory likely means they better achieved their purpose than if they just went unnoticed, but the 'Had you forgotten?' really reminded me of the mumsnet classic 'Did you mean to be so rude?' 😂😂😂

I thought it'd be funny to have a thread to capture these mumsnetisms. The other common one I always see is 'doesn't sound like you like her very much' which I just encountered five mins ago on the thread where the OP is concerned her obese friend may not cope with the physical aspects of the job she's putting her forward for.

Hit me up with your favourites or show me your passive aggressive anger at my daring to mock this established mumsnet institution!

I’ve come across this passive aggressive statement a number of times recently: If the OP was a man (if OP is a woman) or If the OP was a woman (if the OP is a man) they would get completely different responses.

Implying that every pp is sexist bias from women who hate men.

eggandonion · 01/08/2023 09:14

That is far too much fruit...full of sugar. Replace it with cabbage.

In some of those cases, the OP being a man would definitely get different responses because OP is talking about the after effects of pregnancy and childbirth. I know I'd get sidetracked by an actual miracle.

Tryingmuchharder · 01/08/2023 09:29

Why don't you read the other 10 threads on this subject.

LTB - for the most ridiculous of things

Why is this in AIBU it's better suited to the feminism boards, there are lots of threads there like this (posters that like to keep head in sand and don't know how to scroll past things that don't interest them).

ImustLearn2Cook · 01/08/2023 09:36

Fair enough if that were the case @DrSbaitso. However, none of the threads that I’ve seen this statement was in reference to actual differences like that. They were basically saying if pp disagreed with the OP who is a man that if the OP was a woman then you’d all be agreeing with her. Or in the case where the OP is a woman and pp are agreeing with her they claim that if OP was a man you would all be disagreeing with him.

It’s simply attacking the female members of Mumsnet as being sexist bitches. Far from the truth. It’s a passive aggressive way to undermine women’s ability to be rational and reasonable.

Except that it happens so very much Grin
Wife: I cheated
MN: well did he help with the MENTAL LOAD before this?
Wife: he cheated
MN: LTB

And many more variations

Sux2buthen · 01/08/2023 10:04

Link please?

I've never seen this. If you see it, please report it to MN

pintery · 01/08/2023 10:23

Link please?

Ah yes. And "source?"

Often followed by "I'm not your personal google".

arlequin · 01/08/2023 10:29

Great name for a dog.

Mrssalvatore123 · 01/08/2023 10:36

I am sure I have seen “how very different to the life of our queen”

Piggywaspushed · 01/08/2023 10:52

On HE threads;

At 12, my DSs were all travelling independently around Europe/ had already drunk 90 gallons of pure vodka/ were earning £70000 a year working in McDonalds. Has your DC tried to do these things for himself?

or

Time to cut those apron strings, OP!

or

Have you not taught him to use a washing machine in the last 17 years? Mine could use sharp knives at 2 years old.

or

I'm sure Leicester university is fine for a certain type of student

and

is that what was called Trent Polytechnic in my day? Post 92 institutions have their place , certainly.

eggandonion · 01/08/2023 11:26

Russell Group

Piggywaspushed · 01/08/2023 12:03

Or Russell Group plus so that St Andrew's can be included

Catlover100 · 01/08/2023 12:51

Omg, yes, LTB for anything and everything!

A poster says they have been with someone a hundred years, has umpteen kids with them, a dog, a cat, a goldfish but the person doesn't wash up/snores/never puts the bins and they just want to vent about it -
Cue: "Why are you putting up with this OP?? LTB!"

MeinKraft · 01/08/2023 13:24

'And why did you marry this man child?'
Fucking enrages me!

RenoDakota · 01/08/2023 13:46

Anything prefaced by the word gosh.

"Gosh, that's a lot of food to eat in one day"

"Gosh, that was hard to read with no paragraphs"

... ad nauseum.

WildUnchartedWaters · 01/08/2023 14:04

You sound like hard work. Does my head in 🤣

Or on threads where the poster blatantly has a viewpoint so pretends not to understand - see but you cant change sex

Did you see the one where the op accidentally used the wrong pronoun ONCE in a post and several pages of posters claiming they couldnt possibly understand any of the thread 🤣

eggandonion · 01/08/2023 14:05

Big Four Accountants.

Shurleyknot · 01/08/2023 14:09

It's an invitation, not a summons.

Bit like the one (my favourite) where a poster claimed not to know what an ice cream 'truck' was. But but was then outed as an anti-americanism pedant from a previous thread.

Graasspp · 01/08/2023 14:43

Asking an OP who posts about a film or TV show - have you actually seen it?

JesusdroveaHonda · 01/08/2023 15:19

I know this one has probably already been mentioned (admittedly haven't rtft) but...

"You sound controlling."

Usually said to an OP who's established some sort of boundaries for herself in her relationships.

Mauhea · 01/08/2023 15:28

I can't stop seeing these now! There's one thread at the moment and the first page is like PA bingo. 😂

ThatFlightyTemptressAdventure · 01/08/2023 15:45

Not sure that it fits the PA brief but there is a very Mumsnet thing of not allowing a shortened name on the birth certificate to give the child ‘options’.

There was a brilliant moment years ago when an argument about this blew up on a thread where the OP wanted to name their child Teddy I think, because what if the child grew up to be a high court judge and was not called Edward or Theodore? Apparently it was not possible to be a judge with a shortened name. One poster went and looked up the names of the High Court judges at the time and the first name on the list was Sue Somebody. 😁
