The Mumsnet passive aggressive comment thread 😂

RootbeerLolly · 30/07/2023 16:16

I was driving through a small cotswold village yesterday and there were a number of roadsigns that really reminded me of mumsnet. 😂

First there were several 30mph signs. A few hundred feet along was another sign saying 'It's still 30'. Next was 'Remember?' and then my favourite....'Had you forgotten?'

I've no issue as the fact they stayed in my memory likely means they better achieved their purpose than if they just went unnoticed, but the 'Had you forgotten?' really reminded me of the mumsnet classic 'Did you mean to be so rude?' 😂😂😂

I thought it'd be funny to have a thread to capture these mumsnetisms. The other common one I always see is 'doesn't sound like you like her very much' which I just encountered five mins ago on the thread where the OP is concerned her obese friend may not cope with the physical aspects of the job she's putting her forward for.

Hit me up with your favourites or show me your passive aggressive anger at my daring to mock this established mumsnet institution!

"Once more for the hard of thinking"

handlion · 02/08/2023 07:48

"How do you get through life being this dramatic?" or variations on that, in response to people very who are obviously just exaggerating for comedic effect.
Like "it's been 40 years and I'm still traumatised" when telling a story about finding a bug in their bra or something, then some humour-deficient asshat comes along and asks what treatment they're having for their anxiety because they sound like hard work.

handlion · 02/08/2023 07:51

Also people who see one typo or autocorrect fail and claim they can't understand any of the post as a result (aware the random unnecessary 'very' in my last post might make the whole thing totally incomprehensible to some MNers)

pintery · 02/08/2023 07:58

"Sigh"

WildUnchartedWaters · 02/08/2023 08:22

You appear to struggle with comprehension- code for you dont agree with me so you must not understand

PrFi · 02/08/2023 08:33

Any man/Dad bashing thread…he came home 10 minutes late so I kicked him out, changed the locks & told him he can’t see kids anymore…

cue
‘you sound like a lovely/great mum’
’does he pay maintenance’

Well it is ridiculous to give the baby his surname if not married.

My comment was in reference to an above poster talking about ltb when the man doesnt come home on time, but thanks for your personal view on baby surnames

Is it the rental income one by any chance? 😂

It was the 'overweight brits abroad' thread but now I'm going to have to have a gander at that one... 👀

The premier inn one about pretending a 16 year old is 15 has got the PA pearl clutches out posting about fraud and morals - over a situation even the hotel staff couldn’t care less about

I need to read this one!

temosmail · 02/08/2023 12:32

I can’t fathom you thinking that you’d start a thread about this

temosmail · 02/08/2023 12:33

@Honestlyy why? It shows that the dad is around and why should it automatically be the women

greenteaandmarshmallows · 02/08/2023 12:38

I'm fed up of being asked if I'm eg. The cf friend, the MIL just because I can kind of see their point

Piglet89 · 02/08/2023 12:43

“I see someone’s left the gate open at the cunt farm again”.

mariiiaa · 02/08/2023 12:44

You need to think about retraining and earning more money.

MomentOnTheLips · 02/08/2023 12:46

Just seen another in the wild! 😂

"So are you surprised the rules apply to you too?"

A new fresh catch.

'Gosh this is telling. So you think - insert completely ridiculous and insulting insinuation'

TrundleWheel76 · 02/08/2023 13:20

The parking one has some real corkers!

The pass-agg posts I dislike the most on MN are as follows:

  1. When people deliberately miss the point of the OP's post and seize on some minor thing and won't let it go. For example a recent thread where OP was at the end of her tether with her behaviourally challenged child and unhelpful DH. Several posters refused to address this or to acknowledge her obvious distress but instead spent ages bombarding her with criticism because of a height-of-emotion word she used to describe the behaviour of her child.
  2. ND diagnosis for anyone and everyone who displays CF behaviour. Maybe the person is NT and just a CF.
  3. Bolting the door after the horse has fled type posts e.g. "You should have spotted this issue before you married him"
  4. Thread killing censure. This is very common on the Harry & Meghan threads. Someone starts a thread for a lighthearted bit of gossip (or that's who I read it anyway). People duly start to gossip. Someone swoops in with "such a silly / racist / sexist thing to say" / "do you always believe what you read in The Sun / Reddit / online OP?" and lo amd behold, all the frothy fun is sucked out and the thread dies
  5. Performative skinniness / competitive undereating
Dramatico · 02/08/2023 13:34

Oh yes! And also! When posters say "I recognise you and you're crazy / obsessed / have made numerous threads about x" when the poster has changed their username. It always feels a bit creepy / stalker-ish to me.

Or when a poster accuses a distressed OP of being a troll.

Toohotto · 02/08/2023 13:45

First reply to "Dog ate visitors shoes" thread from this morning: "maybe train your dog?" like it's a quick job

I'm still oblivious to what this means.

It's a jammy dodger biscuit so it's posted to tell someone they're taking the biscuit (taking the piss/mick)
