I am, thanks to dh getting now TV for the cricket!

I think the BBC will be showing every match from Monday. Or at least every England match.

Anyone else watching?

She's so hard to defend against.

Isn't she?

This is good stuff. What a brilliant couple of semi-finals we've had today. It's so good to see netball being so competitive, with more teams able to compete. Loving it.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/08/2023 16:16

I thought Aus was running away with it in the beginning of that quarter so I'm glad it's still very close at the end of it. Another massive final quarter to come.

JuneOsborne · 05/08/2023 16:19

Totally agree, thought it was starting to seem like the diamonds were going to take that lead and run with it.

I think Jamaica have had some iffy decisions against them too. But one of the things I love about netball is how fast it is and how quickly you get on with things even if you get a dodgy call.

I'm not a big fan of these two refs. Gary Burgess annoyed me in NZ's match against Jamaica the other day too.

The Jamaican commentator isn't as neutral as the Aussie one.

Fowler's long arms! How did she get that ball?!

GrouchyKiwi · 05/08/2023 16:27

The swings in this match!

JuneOsborne · 05/08/2023 16:27

It's the defence that gets me. Sucj great defending from both teams.

JuneOsborne · 05/08/2023 16:29

And yes to Fowlers long arms. Reminds me of inspector gadget!

It's amazing how quickly it turns. Same as with the match this morning, it was the last couple of minutes that made all the difference.

Loved it. Should be brilliant finals tomorrow - rematches!

JuneOsborne · 05/08/2023 16:40

Looking forward to tomorrow. I'll be watching Scotland vs Wales later too probably.

And the bronze medal match is one to watch!

Netball is such a twee, pointless sport. I hated being made to play it at school and would have much to preferred to the opportunity to play football but girls weren’t allowed to then.

That's shitty. But the netball that's being played at this competition is definitely not twee, nor pointless.

Why? Just why would you come on this thread and say that?

There have been a couple of odd responses to this thread, which surprises me because I would never click on a thread about something I wasn't interested in and comment about it negatively, interrupting chat between people who are clearly enjoying whatever is being discussed.

If you've clicked on the thread because you are ambivalent about netball, can I encourage you to watch tomorrows final? You might find out that you're surprised how athletic, how fast, how skilful it is. And what a watch it is!

I don't understand that attitude. I hate football, but you don't see me coming onto the football threads and telling them that the sport they love sucks.

International netball is a completely different level from the game people were apparently forced to play at school. I don't see why that's so hard to understand.

I played goal shooter at school - I was shit hot at popping the ball in the basket. I love watching these tournaments - it's so completely different to the game we played at school!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 05/08/2023 17:46

It’s the same game. Just a far far higher level.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/08/2023 17:48

I loved playing netball at school. Our primary school won all the local comps because one of the parents at school was a former Silver Fern. Grin

Caroparo52 · 05/08/2023 17:48

Brilliant win over the Silver Ferns.
Go Roses tomorrow.
Looking great

@Enfys1982 you clearly never played at a decent level then! Netball is far from twee. Dd plays both netball and football to a decent level netball is just as physically challenging at football. In fact she had more injuries from netball challenges than football.

I've been watching and loving it. England did so well and I loved watching Jamaica and Australia this afternoon. I was rooting for the sunshine girls but Australia were phenomenal.

Panicmode1 · 05/08/2023 18:47

The netball played today is a world away from the netball I used to play at school (and I played to county level). I'm still playing in my late 40s and our coaches coach one of the NSL teams...I am learning so much and it's so much more physical and skilful than the netball of my school days.

I don't understand why people come onto threads and disparage a game...I also am not a football fan, being an oval ball fanatic, but I wouldn't dream of being rude on eg a Lionesess or PL thread just because I don't enjoy watching the game.

Hope every netball fan here enjoys tomorrow's final and bronze medal match...I'm daring to dream it is going to be England but I think it will be another nail biter!!

Are we all settled in for the next few hours?!

I'm here. All jobs done, easy tea planned, got the TV to myself, knitting by my side.

No plan on moving from this spot till we've won Grin
