I think he's got a very wide range but is sometimes mistaken for only playing Sean Bean in different costumes because he uses his natural, distinctive accent much of the time (not sure if he is any good at other accents). Other actors use their natural RP and aren't mistaken for playing the one part because it's less specific to a very particular place and just reads as 'English'.

If you want a bit of Northern rough ( and who doesn’t 😜) Sean is your man !

There you go, enjoy!

Christ all bloody mighty. Why have I never seen that.

I once met him at a football match (Shef Utd, but he was there filming a scene for When Saturday Comes). He was everything I wanted him to be (well, everything I could have wanted with my boyfriend there with me!!!). My love for him will never diminish.

I was at the Lane when they filmed that. ⚔️ They filmed a lot of it around where I live and he used to go in my local with Pete Postlethwaite. My dad had a drink with him a few times and brought me home a signed picture of him (which I still have).

With all the balloons they couldn't burst in time for the second half because one of the stands had been knocked down at the time??

Still one of the greatest moments of my life :D (I was there as an away supporter ;) )

if we're talking one trick ponies and their accents - how about Benedict Cumberbatch who always plays the character-as-cumberbatch-with-posho-accent. (point to the Beanster: i just bet he can say penguin)

I'm not sure he does in Cabin Pressure, his is the least distinctive voice out of the four main cast.

Brefugee · 21/07/2023 11:22

tbh i've only seen Cumberbatch do him. I don't watch a lot of films though. But it applies to lots of actors, and i think the idea that the Beanster is a one trick pony has been debunked here.

I like that he uses his own accent, but i am biased because i just love a growly Sheffield accent. Whenever i go back for a visit i am swooning all over the place, and it's usually just someone in a shop asking if i want to pay cash or use my card "love" 😂

HollaHolla · 21/07/2023 12:08

Still would

MrsScrubbingbrush · 21/07/2023 12:28

DP sat next to him at a black tie dinner. He said they weren't inviting other halves so I couldn't go 😠 it turned out that there were spare seats on his table.

I have yet to forgive DP (even though he got SB to sign a LOTR book for me "with love from Sean Bean"

JMSA · 21/07/2023 12:31

Must admit, I don't find him particularly memorable.

Deadringer · 21/07/2023 12:35

I am not really a fan and would have agreed op until I saw him in Broken, his performance was sensitive, nuanced, understated, just brilliant actually.

Ooh I’d forgotten about the balloons! I remember that now. I was on the kop. Was there a Mexican wave going on as well or have I confused that with another match? I seem to remember one going on for ages but my memory is terrible. I also went to another night there especially for the film. They moved us around the stands whilst they filmed some of the scenes, acting like we were following a real match. I have an old school friend that acted in it when he was a kid and a lot of them (including SB) still keep in touch with him.

It was FA Cup against Man U.. and yes!! The Mexican wave LOL The forced mexican wave for the filming and the being made to cheer for it all!

It was a very long time ago now! Two friends were getting drinks during second half and stopped him while one came and got me knowing my love for him even then :D

Wasn't he about 40 when he filmed that? They also talked about 'down the mine' is that real Yorkshire speak!

Plus, he did that nice pisstake (in the yorkshire tea advert) of the typecasting his has been prone to. So that's another trick. Several so far.

Perhaps the weird opening post was written by AI doing subtle marketing for Yorkshire Tea.

I love that advert, me being from Yorkshire like 😁

Benedict Cumberbatch can do a French accent, after a fashion.

I remember the match as I was a season ticket holder but wasn’t sat in my normal seat unfortunately. I ended up somewhere near the back of the kop. I was only 17 and as I’m short I was stood on my seat for most of it. I much prefer the upper tier on the away end.

No. We don’t say ‘the’ in Yorkshire. Be more ‘downt mine’ in Sheff.

Brefugee · 22/07/2023 13:24

to be honest it's more like a glottal stop, so "down''mine"

Could also be ‘dahnt mine’. There’s a few different accents here. 😆

Brefugee · 22/07/2023 13:25

yep, it never ceases to amaze me how the accent changes as you move across the city.
