I love Harrison Ford but do think he’s very similar in everything - he does it really well though.

I wanted to cite Harrison Ford but checked the thread to see if anyone else had mentioned him. I mean, he is Harrison Ford and I had a poster of him on my wall as a young 20 something. But he plays every role exactly the same. In every film he is Harrison Ford.

Sean Bean may use the same accent for every role but in no way are his characters the same. YABU in that. Definitely not a one trick pony.

Also just interested. Actors who always speak RP or some generic Southern accent do you think they are one trick ponies?

anyone remember this typically British film? Wasn’t as a big a success as The Full Monty or Brassed Off but just as good.

I was at the Lane when they filmed that. ⚔️ They filmed a lot of it around where I live and he used to go in my local with Pete Postlethwaite. My dad had a drink with him a few times and brought me home a signed picture of him (which I still have).

PimpMyFridge · 21/07/2023 06:48

Sean Bean and Pete Postlethwaite!!! <Faints>

Mollymalone123 · 21/07/2023 06:50

He was brilliant as Sharpe then in Time. Also v good in I think it was Patriot Games

StopStartStop · 21/07/2023 06:51

No, silly man, I didn't 'recognise' you, I'm face-blind. And I didn't fancy you. But you go about as if people ought...

Seen bean here too.
Sharpe. There needs to be nothing more said.

Captain Richard Sharpe 🥰 can see why he's a Chosen Man!

Pringleface · 21/07/2023 07:04

He was in a TV series called Extremely Dangerous which I liked.

Witchbitch20 · 21/07/2023 07:07

A one trick pony I’d definitely love to spend time petting

This is why I like Sean Connery, no matter what nationality he was, always sounded Scottish

I was particularly fond of his Scottish Egyptian in Highlander.

I have this mental image of the director of that film looking out over the assembled cast, all the accents he needed but not one on the right character and all the Scottish people seemingly from Brigadoon or Ireland and saying "Ah fuck it, just do what you like, its beyond me" and wandering off to concentrate on the special effects 🤣

He was OK in that film where he played a pig that talks.

(no - not "Babe", it's called "When Saturday Comes")

oh sorry - this made me choke on my müsli!

PollyThePixie · 21/07/2023 07:18

I think he’s fabulous.

Brefugee · 21/07/2023 07:19

if we're talking one trick ponies and their accents - how about Benedict Cumberbatch who always plays the character-as-cumberbatch-with-posho-accent. (point to the Beanster: i just bet he can say penguin)

GaslitlikeaVictorianparlour · 21/07/2023 07:21

I think Sean Bean has quite a range. I agree with PP, there's a bit of classism with his accent.

Also Sean Bean doesn't die in everything either, I think the whole point of his break out role was that Sharpe managed repeatedly not to die. Maybe his carking it in LOTR and GOT were so monumental to the plots of what were pretty big popular culture moments that its got seared into everyone's minds?

peachypudding · 21/07/2023 07:34

I think he's one of our finest actors. I'm in awe of his talent.

You have obviously have not seen him in The Power of the Dog. It’s a Western psychological thriller in which he plays a rancher. He was nominated for an Oscar for his performance.

doingitforyorkshire · 21/07/2023 07:42

I like him, not just his acting roles but that advert. Yes, my username.......it still does it for me..... even now:).

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/07/2023 07:44

I agree @KimberleyClark

I'm not a fan in general but he was magnificent in this.

Ha from Brigadoon or Ireland 😃

I quite like him - he gets through wives, mind. He's been married about 26 times now?

Agree with pp on Martin Freeman. He gives me the heebie jeebies (sp? Confused) I was on gollums side in the hobbit!

Martin Freeman just seems to pull faces, that's not acting.

One trick pony? One does not simply walk into Mordor.

Lord Of The Rings GIF by Maudit

Think I need a name change now.

It's not acting, he was in some of the Marvel films mainly black panther and he just pulled faces with an awful America accent !

Jujubes5 · 21/07/2023 08:41

Sharpe was great - watched it weekly with my teenage son. Great that there was something we both enjoyed watching.
