DH spoke very highly of him as the priest in the Jimmy McGovern series Broken. I didn't see it, but I don't think it involved swordfighting and trying to steal rings from hobbits, so that's at least two tricks.

Also, his name is such much fun. In my head I always say "Seen Bean, Shorn Born" whenever I think of him.

Brefugee · 20/07/2023 08:16

He's an accomplished actor. Sometimes typecast - sometimes doing jobs to pay the bills. A bit daft about women but at least he marries them. (although there were reports of violence so that's shit)

But acting wise? No complaints.

ElFupacabra · 20/07/2023 08:16

If he is he’s riding that pony to the bank. I doubt he cares what faceless internet people say about him

That prison thing was amazing. The main complaint I have about his is that as a dyslexic this name is complicated to compute as it should rhyme 😁

🤣🤣

I think this about Martin Freeman, same character in anything he plays from the Hobbit to Sherlock, you name it same personality and mannerisms just different clothes and back story.
Sean was ace in that prison drama! And there was a drama about a long term married couple (can't remember the name) with Nicola Walker which was really good, where he was miles away from his usual character.
He doesn't have the widest range but he trumps Martin Freeman always adds value to what he's in and occasionally gets roles that stretch.

I hated Martin Freeman until I saw him in Cargo. It's made more things watchable because at one point he was in everything.

I’m not dyslexic, but it has always bothered me too! I assumed he had done it on purpose ( because actors often change or manipulate their names).

PimpMyFridge · 20/07/2023 08:19

Was Martin Freeman different in Cargo? Or was it enjoyable because the Martin Freeman package fitted for what it was?

Pinkneonballoon · 20/07/2023 08:20

Like as in his trick is being an actor? I mean that's a good one trick of you're gonna have one! Yabu

maras2 · 20/07/2023 08:21

I would. Wink

Princessbananahamock · 20/07/2023 08:22

Isn’t he known for being playing a character most likely to be killed.

bryceQ · 20/07/2023 08:22

Happiest memories watching Sharpe with my dad as kid

bonzaitree · 20/07/2023 08:22

One trick pony? One does not simply walk into Mordor.

Random789 · 20/07/2023 08:23

Plus, he did that nice pisstake (in the yorkshire tea advert) of the typecasting his has been prone to. So that's another trick. Several so far.

Perhaps the weird opening post was written by AI doing subtle marketing for Yorkshire Tea.

Tiredjoanna · 20/07/2023 08:09

Can't stand him. Everything he's in, it's just the same character every single time. Boring

Really? Exactly the same?

when you consider he’s been in such a lot of tv shows and films that seems like a pretty dumb thing to say on the face of it

Dontcallmescarface · 20/07/2023 08:24

At least he can act...Danny Dyer on the other hand is the ultimate one trick pony. I've seen reception class nativities with better acting that he can manage. Every role is Danny Dyer playing Danny Dyer.

We call him Seen Been in our house. 😁

HRTQueen · 20/07/2023 08:24

He was excellent in both Time and Marriage

charters were completely different

i think he is a really good actor he has depth to his acting

Flopsythebunny · 20/07/2023 08:24

I know him in real life. He's actually a lovely bloke and a very loyal friend.

Blackbyrd · 20/07/2023 08:26

He's very charismatic and someone not afraid to speak out if appropriate. Not a pathetic virtue signaller like many in the acting establishment

butterpuffed · 20/07/2023 08:27

Divebar2021 · 20/07/2023 08:15

I mean High Grant, Ray Winstone and Jason Statham also spring to mind as pretty typecast. Can’t get too worked up about it tbh.

I'd include Danny Dire Dyer in that list .

HuntingoftheSnark · 20/07/2023 08:28

I first saw him as Romeo in Stratford with the RSC in about 1984-5. He was fantastic. Nothing like the screen persona he seems to have been pigeon holed into.

He's Shaun Bean in real life, changed it to look more memorable I guess.

Used to like watching him in Sharpe

Toomanycaketins · 20/07/2023 08:30

Is it the accent that is distracting you? He is a great actor but I have never heard him branch out into other accents. Agree the prison thing, the Nicola walker drama and the thing when he was a priest were great. He even played a cross dressing character in a courtroom drama which was really good (accused maybe?)

BarbedButterfly · 20/07/2023 08:31

I thought he was good in Equilibrium too. A lot of actors get typecast but at least he plays it well.
