That prison thing was amazing. The main complaint I have about his is that as a dyslexic this name is complicated to compute as it should rhyme 😁

Make your mind up- seen been or Shaun Baun.

Movinghouseatlast · 20/07/2023 08:58

He's a fab actor, he has played loots of diverse roles in recent years. I saw him in ( I think) his first job playing Romeo at the RSC 30 odd years ago.

Apparently when he's not working he still works as a welder because he loves doing it.

FatNoMoreSue · 20/07/2023 08:01

He was very good in that prison thing.

I liked him in that.

Yes Sean Bean has made a good living from being a Yorkshire man in everything.

And An Awfully Big Adventure - contemporaneous with Four Weddings - but an entirely different character.

a revelation in Florence Foster Jenkins, loved his dance in Love Actually, go Hugh!

Anyone who thinks Hugh Grant is stealing a living by just being Hughie should watch him playing Jeremy Thorpe. Excellent.

Agreed. And he was terrific in the Bridget Jones films and in About a Boy.

LadyBird1973 · 20/07/2023 09:02

I quite like him - he gets through wives, mind. He's been married about 26 times now?

Agree with pp on Martin Freeman. He gives me the heebie jeebies (sp? Confused) I was on gollums side in the hobbit!

AIBUChitchat · 20/07/2023 09:04

I was worried he'd died again....
I can't think of anyone with a wider range -
Dropped from an antenna, throat slashed, bayonetted, drowned, death by cow, impaled by anchor, decapitated....

Each year we ask ourselves if Seen Bean will make it through unharmed, perhaps the writers strike will make 2024 a safer year.

TheWernethWife · 20/07/2023 09:06

I adore Sean Bean, a proper northern actor. Brilliant in Sharpe.

Sighhhhh · 20/07/2023 09:08

No. He was also in that BBC show “Marriage”….the complete opposite of a villain and he was good in it.

I saw that production. Niamh Cusack was Juliet. Circa 1986.

my all time favourite fwiw was the brief glimpse of him in M&S Christmas commercial amongst a host of celebrities Men bearing gifts total yum

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 20/07/2023 09:15

I've only watched a few episodes of Game of Thrones years ago but was traumatised by what happened to him on it! Put me off watching it again!

Or that thing he was in with Nicole Kidman a year or two ago where he played a charismatic husband suspected of murder.

There was an amazing moment where, without seeming to do anything much with his face, the mask slipped away and you just saw this chilly, terrifying void of a person. Really excellent face acting.

😂I love this. So he's either Sheen Been or Shorn Born. I love this so much.

Badger1970 · 20/07/2023 09:18

I loved him in Lady Chatterley's Lover with Joely Richardson, thought he was amazing in that. And there was another short series where he played a man having an affair with an american woman - that was also really good.

Def not a one trick pony.

DustyLee123 · 20/07/2023 09:19

@AlecTrevelyan006 yes, I’ve got it on DVD !

DustyLee123 · 20/07/2023 09:20

He goes as Seen Bean or Shorn Born in out house, he’s such a versatile person that he can do either 😉

TallulahBetty · 20/07/2023 09:20

99% of the time he does play the same character, yes. See also: Hugh Grant; Damien Lewis, Jason Statham

the80sweregreat · 20/07/2023 09:22

I like him as a actor, but I think his private life is a lot more complex

DustyLee123 · 20/07/2023 09:22

@bellac11 i watched Cold Mountain recently and noticed Ray Winstone in it. He managed to still play himself, just with a dodgy American accent 😂

NobodysNose · 20/07/2023 09:24

IMO Sean Bean is a great actor but has been married too many times... leading to too many divorce settlements...leading to having to take more roles (and be less selective) than he should have been for his talent.

Not that it matters much what I think - though I am heartened to hear he's a lovely man.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/07/2023 09:26

gazpachosoupday · 20/07/2023 08:40

I saw him in Macbeth with Samantha Bond, he was really good.

And at least he does play different characters, Sean Pertwee plays Sean Pertwee in everything he does, still love him though

Same. We sat on the third row and he was absolutely excellent. A Yorkshire Macbeth but a very good one.

This is why I like Sean Connery, no matter what nationality he was, always sounded Scottish
